I don't know. I don't recall DC ever putting out 4 movies a year though. But hey, that's just my thoughts on the matter. Superman does not seem to be affected by this "superhero fatigue" that people are talking about. 620+ million seems pretty good for a franchise starter especially out of the rubble of the disastrous DCEU(which is absolutely relevant). I think people need to put things into perspective. I think its a MCU movie fatigue if I'm going to be honest. That's not to say that Avengers and Spiderman aren't going to make gang buster because I fully suspect that they will - but Superman shows the genre is far from dead when the film connects with audiences.

2023: Shazam 2, Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman 2. In a year with 3 Marvel movies, plus across the spierverse.

I think a Superman family movie that may takes Supes to space would boost the international box office. Adding Momoa(Lobo) and Cooper(Jor-El) will also bump up the star power.
I'm not sure. Setting it in space might turn more casual and movie only fans away. It can be like taking Spidey away from New York to many.

fair enough but I was speaking about the release of 4 films EVERY year. Not the unloading of films from a dead universe to make room for the new one. That year is literally like an outlier for DC releases. Marvel has spent year after year releasing 3 to 4 films a year and that's really the only thing I am getting at.

It depends on the response to Supergirl. Not saying it will happen but I wouldn’t be surprised if Supergirl performs better overseas then Superman. I just remember how much the international fans loved GOTG because it was away from earth. Saving the world from Brainiac or Mungol will hit better then saving the world from a Middle East dictator.

They just need to keep doing their thing. Superman is doing for Superman and the new DCU what Batman Begins did for Batman.
We will see. It’s a new day in the superhero movie business. Except for the nostalgia plays like Spider-Man and Deadpool with no competition, $500 to $800 million might be the norm going forward. I will be interested into what happens with Spider Man New Day with such a late movie date. Fantastic 4 seemed to be the movie that got sandwiched ironically.

WB shares responsibility for sure, but they were not churning out near the amount of product as Disney was with Marvel.

Let's look at it since 2020. Marvel has released 13 movies and 13 shows (not including each season of these). DC has released 9 movies and 2 shows.
Where do you get two shows?

- Peacemaker
- Penguin
- Creature Commandos
- My Adventures with Superman
- Kite Man
- Gotham Knights
- Naomi
- Superman and Lois
- Stargirl
- Sweet Tooth
- The Sandman
- Dead Boy Detectives
- Bodies
- DMZ
- Y: The Last Man on Earth
- Bat-Fam
- Batman: Caped Crusader
= Suicide Squad Isekai
- Batwheels
- Aquaman: King of Atlantis

If you're counting shows that continued past 2020:
- Harley Quinn
- Doom Patrol
- Teen Titans Go
- Batwoman
- Pennyworth
- Titans
- Black Lightning
- Legends of Tomorrow
- Supergirl
- The Flash
- Lucifer
- Young Justice

I do find the consistent efforts of some to call Superman a bomb a bit ridiculous.

They also called The Batman a bomb. I would call this a success with points of concern to keep an eye on.

Momoa didn't save the foreign box office of Fast X. Aquaman 2 also bombed. I doubt he is going to boost the international take of other superhero movies. And as much as I will love Dune 3, I doubt he is going to turn in a performance that gives him a new artistic appreciation of his performances.

What are you talking about? Aquaman 2 was dead on arrival and it still managed to make over 400 million at the box office off the strength of the international box office. You also left out Minecraft. WB’s top grossing movie for the year. Momoa is a movie star.

Shows that are specifically connected to the movie universe that came out 2020 and beyond, not just any show with a DC attachment. See my other post. I don't see all those animated niche shows having really bearing on the fatigue we are seeing now. I would say the same for any Marvel releases not connected to the MCU.

I forgot about Creature Commandos.

Why would that matter when it comes to oversaturation? These are all produced/signed off on by WBD.

Because the GA isn't paying any attention to those.

Compared to the GA, I'm a hardcore fan and even I didn't know most of those existed.

Far From Home was also an immediate post-Endgame movie. It would've made a billion even if it put Peter in Antarctica.
I don't think that's the reason it made $1B. It's more that it reaped the benefits of the goodwill created with Homecoming and Spidey in the MCU.

Overseas audiences have been watching and appreciating American movies for almost a century.

You're all overrating the need for non-Americans to have the movies catered to them.

China? Maybe. But I'm glad that they're out of the window as a major market for Hollywood movie, as I believe they were the reason for why we got so little variety from studios this past decade. Everyone was trying to wow China with the latest huge effects blockbuster, hoping to make it big there.

ANd bear in mind, I'm not being racist here. But as often happens, Hollywood had a very backwards approach to wowing China. Enough of that.

That's also true, absolutely, but I do think its placement immediately after Endgame helped, that and it being Spider-Man. Since Ant-Man and the Wasp came out a few months after Infinity War, and that only made $100 million more than the first Ant-Man.

- Yeah that was part of "the goodwill... [of] Spidey in the MCU"

- Ant-Man and the Wasp was pretty average, it's a miracle it managed to make $100M more than the first (which was a better movie)

While I would have loved for this to hit absurd heights, I'm glad it's doing as well as it is. This is a solid base to work from. Both the DCEU and MCU over the last decade have done some real damage to their overall brand appeal and building back up will take time. Likely won't hit those Infinity Saga heights again. But if they keep putting out good movies there will still be room for superhero films.

Just hope they can find a way to snag back a bigger part of the international audience. Superman just looking domestically is top 3 for the year. It's doing fine there.

But anyways, at least this movie was good and didn't bomb. So I'll take that. I want to see where the DC universe goes this time. At least it's not rushing everything out there. It'll be going nice and slow for the time being.

It’s $25 to rent movies now. It is what it is. Superman will do well on digital. Cinemas are in big trouble going forward. I for one would rather watch a movie at home with food I make, a big screen television with a great sound system, and not having to deal with folks being ignorant/spoiling the film.

For that price I'm going to wait for the 4K Blu-Ray.
