Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

I'm sorry, but killing off Jimmy and then showing us that his brother was the real Jimmy the whole time, is stupid. I suppose they're going to kill off Lois Lane and Chloe is going to assume her name for no apparent reason.

Ok, you couldn't really tell he was being sarcastic.

Smaville fans actually think that though.

I watched that very late last night into the morning, I can't believe they killed Jimmy off.

I'm more pissed that they interrupted the Clark v Doomsday fight for Chloe and Jimmy love stuff--their scene even lasted longer.

But yeah very crazy they killed him off and all of that.

It was nice to see Clark finally square off against Doomsday, makes you wish we could have seen that in the 90's on the big screen done in the right way.

Seriously.

I knew going into that episode that it couldn't be much because of television budget restrictions. But they could have done a little more with it than what they did...like I said such wasted potential.

I will continue to hold out hope the next film (whenever that will be) will give us some awesome Superman action.

im just thinking, if Wb can attempt that kind of action sequences, then why is it so hard to do that on film???

who are we kidding? we already in the last 10 years saw more action in tv-series then smallville.

Trust me I know other shows seem to pull off action just fine, but for some reason Smallville just doesn't.

By budget I mean any great CGI cars slams, ground shaking stuff. I think their budget would have been just fine to display Clark and Doomsday punching each other though.

But anyway it was ambitious to think they could pull Doomsday off on tv anyway. It did let us catch a brieft glimpse of how cool it would be to see played out on screen--say in a new movie perhaps?

Smallville just needs to get its **** together. I'm not even watching the show anymore (though I tuned in for the finale), but the problem is that it's trying too hard to appeal to its mainstream audience. I realize it sounds strange, since they need that audience to stay on-air, but maybe a little less effort toward that direction and some toying with new ideas wouldn't cost them much.

I mean, if you don't have the budget to shoot an epic battle sequence between a guy in a jacket and a rubber suit, don't build up on it. Unless there was some sudden budget cut I'm not aware of, it's just... stupid.

I agree. I mean I've always wondered why in any iteration of Superman their punches always seem to knock them through buildings. Sure they're both super strong, but that should make their powers cancel out and their fight would look like any normal brawl. Maybe I'm just thinking too much. But to the point I was making, it would cost close to nothing for SV to show just some normal punches and kicks in the superfights, without any slow-mo or CGI work.

SV needs to stop retconning itself.

Aaron Ashmore's Jimmy was referred to as "James Bartholomew Olsen" before.... and now he's "Henry James Olsen"... conviniently..

Yeah that was a really bad finale for a season that started off well for 10 episodes and turned to crap in a downward spiral right after.

But this show will never end. I can't wait to see how they retcon Lois to fit with the mythos..

Make her lose her memory of ever meeting Clark after they kill off Chloe.

Nah, I don't think they'll ever have to deal with this. At this rate, the medium will die out before the show does. I can see Welling and Co. going from the set straight to a good retirement home.

Here's my "treatment" so-to speak. It's a reboot in that it doesn't follow Superman Returns but it does follow the first two Superman films, so it's more of a vague sequel.

We begin with a montage giving us, well, that. Select events of the first two films, but done in a much different style. We have a more high-tech Krypton and (praise God) a different looking spaceship. Superman's youth in Kansas is much the same, with the death of Pa Kent. We then see Superman heading to the Fortress. The green thingy "creates" it much like in the movie, but the resulting Fortress is much more scientific-looking. We then cut to Metropolis and Superman's at the office and meets Lois Lane. Not much to say there, then we get a (hopefully faithful) reenactment of the helicopter scene. We see him back at the Planet. A similar scene to the part where Luthor "calls" him with a high-pitch frequency ensues, he bursts into a skyscraper and we see Luthor--looking more like in the animated series, with Mercy at his side--fell him with Kryptonite. He goes to see if the misses are heading in the right direction, and Mercy decides to save him. He stops the missiles and throws one into space. It shatters the Phantom Zone thing, the three baddies escape and Superman battles them in Time Square before leading them back to the Fortress, where he comes at them with his Kryptonite armor and kills them with Kryptonite much like in The Supergirl Saga.

Okay, so tomorrow, I'll talk about the actual plot. Again, this is just a montage at the beginning like in The Incredible Hulk.

:bh:

you know thats basically right where SR started a sequel to the first II superman films.

Just start with a new continuity

I'm not trying to bash you but...

NO MORE VAGUE SEQUELS!!!!

If we can have Batman movies not connected to Burton's Bat-flicks I don't see why we HAVE to follow up Donner/Lester's Superman movies?

First, I'll write all the vague sequels I want. I like vague sequels. It allows the audience (me) to fill in the blanks for them (our) selves.

Second, I didn't say "we have to" I said "I want to." Besides, "we"'re not doing anything unless you and I write a spec script together.

Third, if Singer could create a sequel to the older films in spite of the more recent and more profitable Batman series rebooting but ignore the less popular installments in the series; then what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

And I want to prove that a sequel to the first two Superman films doesn't have to be this nose-in-the-@$$ tribute, a cheesy soap opera, or lookalike contest. At first, I was like, "you gotta jump ship," but then I got tired of everyone bashing the first film (the second film I don't even like, but it helps tie in with my idea).

You do have the right to write vague sequels but I for the life of me don't understand why you would want another vague sequel to Donner's flicks??? Are you averse to somebody bringing something totally new to Superman?

The fact is, a vague sequel limits you unless you do some convoluted Star Trek time travel storyline. It's time you stop living in the past and come up with something new.
