Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

I wrote what would be the opening scene of the movie a few pages back.

After that scene Clark discovers that the remains of the brainiac drone/probe are missing. Later we discover that a young rouge scientist working for star Labs, has the remains. In studying it he determines that the alloy is not from earth and discovers a host of other things that point to it having extraterrestrial origin. The scientist is able to reverse engineer the advanced technology and uses this knowledge to advance his own personal agenda. The rouge scientist is Lex Luthor. He uses the knowledge he gains to create several technological breakthroughs and founds LexCorp. He has an antagonistic relationship with star labs after this.

This all happens in the ten year period between the opening scene in the movie and Clark finally appearing as superman. All of this isn’t necessarily shown on screen but is implied. What we do see at some point is that lex has a room that still holds the robot. At some point he’s explaining everything to someone maybe lois or Clark or both, then he points out how the metal like material the robot is composed of is harder than any substance known to man. He then asks them to look closer. He points out what appears to be the imprint of a human hand on the robot’s arm (were Clark grabbed it).

Lois looks surprised. “Now what kind of a person would be strong enough to do that?” Lex poses the question (maybe lois and Clark are both there). “Superman?” Lois mumbles to herself. “As you can see the hand print isn’t that of a full grown man but possibly a teenager. It appears our ‘Man of Steel’ has been here longer than any of us knew….Hmm…I wonder what he was doing all that time before he came to metropolis…don’t you, Lois?”

LexCorp leads the world in cutting edge technology and military applications of this technology. Lex creates metallo with the an synthetic version of the metal on the brainiac probe. We superman confronts metallo he notices the similarity in his design to the robot and wonder if they are somehow connected.

Also near the end of the film the probe reactivates, perhaps after clark leaves the room in the scene where lex describes everything. It says "kryptonian identified, initiating homing beacon". the movie ends in the far reaches of space as a lone ship cruises along, suddenly coming to life as if recieves the beacon. Brainiac is coming to earth. The end.

Thanks, i just like the idea of interconnecting things, and having the earlier smallville scenes link directly to later events in the film.

Opening credits, CB style.

opening scene:1982. Smallville kansas. Camera flys over a typical small midwestern town, then on and out to farming country. it stops over one particular farm and glides down to it.

A young man, in his mid to late 20's, turns on his television set to watch the evening news. He sits and proceeds to lift up a newspaper. he ignores the TV.

Newscasters voice. ''Scientist discover a new supernova approx 6 light years away. ALSO, scientists say some planetary debris appears to be headed for the earth, but officials stress that there is no danger to the public, they say it will just make for a nice fireworks show, possibily in the midsection of the united states sometime in mid 198.......''

A Voice calls out. ''Jonathan, suppers ready''

''Ok Martha, be right there'' Jonathan rises and heads for the dining room, never hearing the newscast.

1 year later.

Jonathan is picking up some damage that occurred to his farm by a storm the night before.
He is in deep thought, he and martha have been trying to start a family, but they discovered that jonathan can't father children. After much soul searching, they have decided to adopt.

They go to the smallville adoption agency first, then on to other agencies in surrounding towns. They're having no luck and martha is getting discouraged.
After arriving home from yet another fruitless trip to an adoptive agency, Jonathan walks to the mailbox and checks the mail....one letter catches his eye....its from an out of state adoption agency.
He shows the letter to martha. She takes it and opens it. After reading it she hands it to Jonathan....

Camera cuts to a few mins later. Martha and Jonathon sitting at the table, talking about the letter.

It's decided that after failing to find what they are seeking in kansas, they will travel to the next state and at least check the place out. what do they have to lose.

Next scene, next morning.
Jonathon is loading some suitcase in the back of their truck. Martha comes out. She hugs jonathon and playfully pats his nose...they head out.

Next scene. Jonathon and Martha arrive at the smalltown in Nebraska. Jonathon checks each address of the buildings they pass, he finally finds the one they are looking for. They look at each other and both take deep breaths.

Next scene. Inside the adoptive center.
The Kents find a baby that they both fall in love with, an infant with jet black hair and deep blue eyes. They ask about the birth parents but the director of the center doesn't know who they are.
The infant was found abandoned and brought here he says. after paperwork and background checks, The Kents take him home unaware of what he will become.

Smallville. 6 years later.

Little Clark is playing as any typical 6 year old that lives in farming country would do, in the fields of corn.
He is lost in his own little world and doesn't see the tractor Jonathan is driving heading toward him.
Jonathan leans from side to side as he drives, watching his rows, careful to not damage any plants. He doesn't see Clark sitting in his path just ahead.
Jonathan glances up and his eyes grow wide as he sees Clark. He screams a parents terrified scream as he yells for Clark to move.
Jonathan yanks down hard on the steering wheel and tries to stop, but he's to close. The tractor is already on top of little clark.

Clark throws up his arms to instinctively protect himself. The tractor smashes into him.
Jonathan is thrown off his seat when the tractor hits. He gets to his feet, jumps from the tractor and races toward Clark, his heart pounding the whole time in dread for his son.

His eyes filled with tears, Jonathon is expecting the worst, but what he finds stuns him.
Clark appears to be uninjured. Jonathon looks at his tractor, the front end is smashed. Water and steam pour from it.
Jonathan grabs up clark and checks him over, not a scratch. He picks him up and embraces him, overjoyed that he is not injured.

He looks at Clark, then at the tractor. He smiles as he sets Clark down.
(thoughts race through his mind..he knew Clark was gifted. He has the maturity of someone 3 times his age, and his intelligence, that is very high, but this, this is something brand new.)

Clark looks up ''I'm sorry'' he says
''Don't be'' Jonathan says. ''Its not your fault''. ''I can get another tractor, but I cant get another you''. Jonathan rubs clarks hair playfully.

Then Jonathan asks the obvious.''Clark, did you know you could do this?"
Clark hesitates ''well....some funny things have been happening''
''I hear things......like sounds way off that I shouldn't be able to hear'', ''and I can jump really high and run really fast, like faster than a train fast''.

Jonathon nods and asks ''For how long?''

'' About 3 months now'' Clark says.

Clark looks down and kicks the dirt. ''I was afraid to tell you and ma''
Jonathan smiles. ''Never be afraid to tell me anything Clark, ok?''.

Jonathan takes Clark by the hand and says ''C'mon son, we need to talk to your ma about this''.
''Am I in trouble?'' Clark asks.
''No son, your not in trouble, but you can't tell anyone.'' ''Not friends, teachers, anyone''
''They won't understand''. Do you Understand Clark?'' ''It's very important'' ''Promise me son''.
''Ok, I promise pa''.
''Good'', jonathan says. ''Always keep your promise son''.

Next scene would show jonathan and clark walking into the farm house.

the camera stays outside.

We hear muffled voices from within.
Then we hear martha's voice, and it at first sounds frantic, but then relieved..

Next scene would show Jonathan driving alone back to the adoptive center where they got Clark. He's tried to call, but with no luck.

Jonathan wants some answers. He is concerned that whatever it is that Clark can do, may be life threatening to him.

He arrives and discovers that the center is closed, and whats more, it looks like its been empty for years.
He inquires at nearby businesses to see if they know the why and when it closed, and if they know how to get in contact with the former director. He learns that it was only open for 3 months, then it closed unexpectedly. They have no idea how to contact the people that ran it.

He heads back to Smallville with more questions than answers.

As Jonathan nears the outskirts of smallville, he slows as he sees several trucks stopped on the shoulder. As he drives by, he notices one of the signs on the side of the truck reads ''Edge enterprises''. The men have some strange equipment out..and appear to be searching for something.

"Trouble? Need any help?" Jonathan asks.

Jonathan gets nothing but threatening looks returned.

Jonathan shrugs his shoulders and continues on his way.

Off in the distance, a deep faint pulse can be heard...one of the men holds a device..He is circling and finally pinpoints the signal. He motions ''this way''
The men make their way across a field and into a small grove of trees. the pulse sound is loud now. They at last find what they were seeking, a partially buried spacecraft.
Strange markings are on the side, a triangle with small circles at the ends.
One of the men reaches down to touch the craft when suddenly, arms fly out, instantly killing him.
The leader of the group steps up. He is holding a weapon and calmly fires a pulse of some kind at the craft, silencing it.
One of the men leans in and whispers into his ear. ''It's very similar to the other craft. the shape is basically the same, but this one is larger and has defensive features that the other one didn't have.
The man nods. ''pack it up'' he orders.
The leader of the group, one Mr. Morgan Edge, smiles to himself. ''This will give me just the edge I need to finally beat the Luthor's''.

that sounds pretty good man. though for me i still have prefrence to the kents actually finding clark and his ship. over that old school origin bit where he was in adoption agency deal.

Smallville: 10 years later.

The camera shows shots of clouds sailing past. Then it points down and we see that we're miles up. we hear a sound, like wind whipping through clothing.
The camera turns and we see a black haired, teen aged boy in street clothes flying.
He has a huge smile on his face. He flips over onto his back, then shoots straight up into the clouds and does a loop, then shoots back down toward the camera, whopping like a teenager the whole time.

3 miles away. A lear jet heads for smallville airport. A thunderstorm is just ahead of them.
A new industry is scheduled to be opened today in Smallville and the owner of it is onboard the plane. his name, Lex Luthor.
He has attended so many of these openings that he is bored with them, in fact, he is bored with everything. He is 26 and bored with life. He has money, power, dozens of homes, any woman that he wants, cars, yachts, etc etc.
The only pleasure he gets these days is sparring with edge industries.
He has been trying for years to steal the rumored spacecraft that edge has in its possession, but with no luck, yet.

Lightning flashes through the window and it stirs Lex from his musings.

Suddenly alarms blair out, then the lights onboard dim. Lex is thrown up to the ceiling as the plane plummets toward the earth.

3 miles away. Clark completes his antics and stops, he hovers there, taking it all in.
He feels great. He has been flying for about a year now. It took him awhile to get the hang of it tho, and after a few repairs to the barn's roof, he finally got it right. He laughs out loud to himself remembering his crashes...

Suddenly He hears something.....creaking metal, men's voices in a panic, and a warning alarm.
Clark turns his head....he looks in the direction of the sound and strains to see, he squints....

suddenly, clouds seem to be zooming toward him. He stops, startled. No, everything is normal, not moving.

He rubs his eyes.

''Ok, that was weird'' he thinks..
''I just wonder tho''...
He tries again. concentrating his stare. The Clouds again zoom in at him, faster and faster. there, he sees it, a plane and it's falling, no crashing.

Clark looks around as if to say, somebody help them...then he realizes that he is the only help they'll have.

He takes a deep breath and rockets off toward the plane.

Clark. ''Ok Clark, you can do this.''

3 miles away. alarms blair, lights flicker. Lex strains to pull himself back into his seat. He looks at the pilots, they are trying with all their might to right the plane, but with no success.

Lex has to laugh. ''I'm one of the richest, most powerful people on the planet and i'm going to die crashing into a cornfield in Smallville KANSAS.''

1 mile away. Clark sees the plane, its only about a thousand feet above the ground, spiraling downward out of control. ''i'm not gonna make it'' he thinks.

Clark strains and to his surprise, he accelerates faster.

Lex looks out the side window. The ground is rushing up..he can see treetops now.
he closes his eyes and accepts the inevitable.

Clark makes it to the plane. The ground is only a few hundred feet below now. He is at the nose of the plane.
He makes eye contact with the pilots...they are dumbfounded.. Clark stops the spiraling first, then makes his way under the belly of the plane.
He lifts. At first it doesn't respond but He lifts harder, and he and the plane turn up and away from the ground, with only a hundred feet separating them from the field below.

Lex opens one eye, then the other..''Am I dead?'' he wonders.

He slowly walks up to the cabin.

Lex. ''You two have earned your keep today''

The pilots look at each other, then at Lex.

"It wasn't us sir"

Lex. ''What?'' ''Don't be ridiculous''. ''And Don't you dare say God, Buddha, or whatever other God you worship saved us''

Pilot one. ''No, not a God, at least I don't think so''.

Pilot two. ''it was a....eh....it was....''

Lex. ''well, spit it out man"

pilot one. ''It was a kid sir, a teen aged kid from the looks of it''.

Lex. ''Mmm Hmm'' ''Is that so?''. Lex thinks to himself, ''psych evaluation upcoming for these two.''

''Just get me down.'' he says to them.

Smallville airport. Clark heads the plane toward the lower end of the runway, away from prying eyes.

The plane stops, and hovers like a helicopter for a moment.

Lex looks out the window, he knows a lear jet cannot hover...''could the pilots be correct in what they told him? he wonders.

He rushes again from his seat and heads for the cabin.

Clark sets the plane down gently.

Clark rockets off just as Lex opens the door. Lex sees him for a split second, his jaw drops open.

Instead of gratitude, Lex feels.....what's this? jealousy? never has he felt this emotion before.
He likes it..He keeps looking skyward and smirks.

High above..Clark feels good after the rescue, fulfilled even. It's Not a prideful feeling, it's more like a ''I helped someone and didn't care about getting any credit for it'' kinda feeling.
He looks at his clothes..they're ripped, burned, and hanging off him. ''I gotta fix that somehow'' he thinks.

He hovers there for a long while, thinking.

Then it hits him. Right then and there, and he knows it's his calling to use his powers to help people.

Two years later.

Clark has graduated from High school and will be attending Kansas State in a couple of years, majoring in journalism.
But First, he wants to travel the world. He has talked with his parents and they agree that he should. The world needs him and he needs to see it for himself.

He has decided that he will not interfere with any Goverments of the world, no matter how corrupt, even tho he could. But That won't stop him from helping their innocent people though.

He sets out on his journey. It's at about the same time that reports start coming in from around the world.
Headlines that read like fiction...

''Miracle man saves tribe from rebels in south america.''
''Family of 5 in Moscow saved from fire by an angel''
''Flooding stopped in Germany by mysterious figure''
''Entire village evacuated by hero, saved from tsunami''
''Nuclear Sub's crew in the atlantic ocean saved from certain death by an unknown figure.''

Lex Luthor sets at his desk in Lex-Corp, reading the headlines...he knows its the same person that saved his plane from crashing. He takes a sip of his drink, thinking.
His bodyguard stands close beside him, her name is mercy.

Finally, He gets up and walks to a hallway, mercy follows. He comes to a door and punches in a code. A huge steel door opens. He comes to another door. He leans down and a retina scanner scans his eyes, it opens as well.

He enters a large room. It's busy. Scientists are working here and there. In the center of the room is a spacecraft, it's the same one we saw earlier that Morgon Edge had found. The scientists have discovered that its powered by crystals.

Lex smirks..He had finally did it. He finally got it from edge. Lex walks over to it, its the larger craft, the one with the triangle symbols. Lex hasnt found the second craft just yet, but he's getting closer.

Lex touches it, lets his fingers glide along the smooth surface of it as he walks around the girth of it.

Lex.''it's smooth as silk''

There is no doubt in his mind that this ship, and the young man performing the ''miracles'', are somehow connected.

Lex also has no doubt that their paths will cross again.

Lex.''Its fate'' he says aloud while looking and smiling at Mercy.

Mercy. "Fate sir?''

Lex. "Yes Mercy, fate that the two most powerful people on the planet will cross paths and butt heads''. ''Its inevitable''.

Half a world away, Clark works in a relief center feeding the hungry in a war zone.

He writes about the plot of the refugees and how it seems the world has forgotten them.
He could have written stories about the rescues he has performed, but he didn't.
He chose to instead write about the human tragedy. He sent a copy in to the daily planet, not expecting to ever hear back from them.
He was surprised to receive a letter back from the editor, Perry White, a couple of weeks later.
It read, 'nice article kid. Get your degree and come and see me, you've got a job waiting. P.W.'

Present day. Metropolis.
street level. a very busy street. lots of cars going by, horns sounding, people walking...
Camera flys over the crowd and finally settles on the back of one man. It's Clark Kent.
He makes his way through the crowd, people bump into him left and right and HE apologises.

Clark finally has his degree in journalism and has moved to Metropolis. At the urging of his parents, he has taking on a persona that will not draw attention to himself. A Hat, glasses, and a business suit. It should do just fine.
He is also wearing the new suit underneath that he and his mom made. It was her idea. She said he would never get any rest if people knew he was the one running around the world saving people.... He tugs nervously at his collar and for a brief second, we see a flash of blue under it..

He is on his way to the Daily planet for an interview with Perry White.
To Clark's surprise, Perry remembered him when he called.

Clark finally arrives at the DP. He looks up at the building and whistles. He takes a deep breath and reaches for the door handle, when suddenly he hears a voice..Its a newscaster, it sounds urgent. He tilts his head and listens....
"repeat, we have breaking news''. The maiden voyage of the superliner, sonya II, has met with disaster just outside metropolis harbor. Reports say loud explosions were heard and fire can be seen coming from the ship. Over 1000 celebrities and high ranking members of the goverment are onboard. Coast guard and civilian craft are on the way to attem.......

Cue superman theme, williams?? or new? ( slow beat)

Clark looks left and right and spots an alley, he heads for it...Camera follows as we see him reach for his shirt and rips it open. The full, classic \S/ can be seen in all its glory. Then the entire suit can be seen. Its the classic suit. He rockets off and his surroundings become a blur, a small whirl wind is left in his wake with paper circling around it.

Just outside metropolis harbor. camera shows a huge ocean liner in trouble as smoke bellows from it.
The Coast guard and several civilain craft are on the way, but they wont make it in time.

The ship is listing badly. Panic insues as lifeboats are lowered..

Off to the side, the camera shows Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. They were the only reporters invited by the owner, Lex-corp, to cover the maiden voyage. They were invited to come along and to enjoy the short jaunt outside the harbor and back, along with about a thousand other dignitaries. But Instead of covering a boring story as she first thought it would be, Lois has the story of the year, if she lives to tell it that is.

Jimmy, ever the photographer, snaps away with his camera as the disaster unfolds around him.

Lois spots a small child through the smoke, crying. Lois looks around and sees that no parents seem to be near. She reaches for the child and holds her close. The 3 attempt to make their way higher up but fire blocks them.

(The camera cuts to a skyscraper in Metropolis and to a office in it. It shows an arm and hand only. A finger presses a red button on a control panel.)

Back to the ocean liner......
Another explosion rocks the ship. Metal can be heard creaking and smoke completely fills the air. The ship starts to go down....Jimmy wraps his arms around lois and the little girl and they close their eyes and say their good byes to each other..the child whimpers.

Suddenly the smoke clears and the fire disappears....Lois opens her eyes. The ship has righted itself somehow.
Jimmy jumps up. He races to the rail and looks over. His face turns white.
Lois looks at him..Jimmy? whats wrong? what is it?
All jimmy can do is slide down the railing and sit.
Lois walks over and looks for herself. She cant believe her eyes. They're at least 300 feet above the water, FLYING...How??

Metropolis harbor, the wharf area. A scene of utter chaos. Ambulances, humvee's, firetrucks, and police cars fill the area while News Helicopters fill the air overhead.

The camera zooms onto one man. He appears to be in charge and is barking orders into the radio. "I don't care what the military says, you get all the civilian craft you can into the area''

A man walks up behind him..Sir?

The man turns, glairing. What?

Sir, You might want to take this call.

The man takes the cell phone from the second. Yes?.....what?......huh?.....thats not possible......really?......here?.....now? The man turns his head toward the harbor, dropping the phone to the ground.

It's at this time that a rescuer on the dock notices something off in the distance..he stops what he's doing, walks a few steps toward it and squints his eyes, straining to see..

He pokes a second man. Do you see that? he points.
the second man looks.
Before long, someone else sees it and shouts ''look, up in the sky.''

The camera turns and we see what they see, it's the 1,200 foot long ocean liner flying over Metropolis harbor, dwarfing nearby shyscrapers. It's at least 3 or 400 feet above the water, and coming at them.

The Camera turns back to the pier..we hear people in a panic..some run, some draw their weapons.

The man in charge holds his ground, fighting his fear...

The ship flys in closer, then slows. They can see that underneath it, a man in blue and red appears to be carrying it, but that's not possible.

The ship hovers over the pier now, covering them all in it's shadow, and the man underneath shouts down in a booming voice that all below can hear. ''Clear me a spot for the ship, we have injured people onboard!!''

Without blinking an eye, the rescuers instantly comply...the sound of tires screeching are heard as all the vehicles are moved.

The huge ship hovers there for an instant longer. Clark double checks to make sure all the people are safely out of the way. He then slowly lowers the huge ship to the ground, gently setting it down..
Its so big that each end of it rests on top of some abandoned warehouses, crushing them flat.

After the dust settles, silence follows. The rescuers slowly approach the ship, unsure of what to do. The police officers and soldiers make their way forward, weapons raised. They all look at each other, then at the man hovering there in blue and red with the S on his chest. For a moment, it's tense, but then, they lower their weapons......

Cheers erupt.

Clark blushes that they, they with no powers at all, they that risk everything, would cheer him..
He smiles at them and nods.

Clark then proceeds to create make shift ramps so that the passengers can exit off the ship. He takes the ones off himself that are badly injured.

Lois and Jimmy make their way off. The little girl spots her parents and jumps down out of Lois's arms. She kisses Lois on the cheek and runs off. Her parents shout out in joy when they see their little girl..

Jimmy takes pictures of the reunion when he suddenly spots the man in blue and red hovering above them. He nudges lois and points up.

Lois looks up and sees Clark for the first time. Jimmy's camera clicks away..this is the first time this guy has been filmed up close.

Lois asks a nearby police officer who is directing and helping passengers who the man is.

He tells her he was the one who saved the ship and all the passengers. But who is he? she asks.
Police officer. ''I have no idea''. An angel? a god? who knows. All I know is he is a super-man for sure''.

''WoW'' she thinks. ''Super-man?''. ''Hmmm, Superman huh.''

Lois looks back up at Superman.

Clark sees her and has to look twice. Their eyes meet. She looks down sheepishly, then back up. He smiles at her and she then smiles back.

After a once over of the scene, Superman flys off, looking back at Lois one last time.

Lois watches him as he disappears in the distance. "jimmy, we have our story''.

Updated on subject:

How would I make a Superman movie story?

This is just a rough treatment, not a full drawn out script. More details, smaller scenes etc… could be filled in later. I like to make things in more of the bigger overall picture, and add details as needed to move the story forward.

For starts it would be roughly based on the feel of the Comics combined with the Animated Series (STAS). The movie’s mood would NOT be dark and gritty. The desire to make it so for most movie producers is based on the myth that "dark heroes" are the only successful kind at the box office. This is not true, take Iron man for example. Much of the movie is bright and shiny, and still did well in theatres. The idea is better to take the subject seriously as you can with a hero that can fly, and at the same time make the mood fitting for the character. In the case of superman, bright and optimistic is the way to go. I would still take the subject matter seriously, as in trying to avoid camp and I would stay away from too many "in-jokes". The villains would seem as dark and scary as possible, but superman would remain a generally friendly classic good guy.

Basic story: (keep in mind this is merely an overview, a lot of other details, side stories and scenes could be added, parts scrapped and such as need be)
I would suggest making a reboot entirely, starting with the destruction of Krypton, Kal-El being sent to earth.

In these scenes Krypton is sort of a mixture of Courosant and Naboo from Star Wars. It looks technologically advanced but somehow in harmony with nature. We have an event that looks more like the events of STAS, but condensed to about 15-20 minutes.

Lara and Jor-El are portrayed in their 20s, or early 30s. They are a younger couple, not old like the Donner films. It should look like a real tragedy that this young family with all their life ahead of them is cut short.

In the scene where Kal is being sent to earth, we have some explosions and earthquakes already happening, Kryton is in its final minutes. Jor-El prepares the ship. The ship looks advances but not crystal, I am avoiding the whole crystal look for Krypton. As he prepares the ship with his computer (which looks like holograms, very advanced etc…) the young Kal, only a year old is hysterical, crying because of the loud noises, and Lara seems in Despair trying to sooth during the Apocalypse of their world.

"Earth is the only place to send him. We have found an artifact from their world, and it showed us that although primitive, they are much like we are. They look like, and speak similar to us. Although Kal will look like them, he will not be one of them. Their young Yellow Sun will make him the most powerful being their world has ever known. Their rules of physics will not apply to him. Should he make it there, the last son of our world may live forever for us all. This has only been attempted twice in the past, both times failed, contact lost with both ships. Now, it may be our last chance to save Kal. His chances are one in a thousand to make his Journey, but that is better than none"-Jor El

We see the opening of the ceiling to the stars. Lara kisses Kal one last time, as she set him into the ship. As she harnesses the breathing mask over the terrified Kal, he reaches for her one last time to be held by his mother. But there is no time.

Everything is now on autopilot, the ships shell closes over Kal who still seems terrified. Lara can hardly stand and as she is falling to her knees Jor-El pulls her to him and holds her up. Both are in tears giving up their only son to his chances in the universe, knowing he is to be the last survivor of their world.

We see the space around the ship bend into circles that make the sky look warped, it is a wormhole in space, and the ship is Launched through it jump starting his Journey by bending the physics of the Universe itself as Kal is jettisoned into space.

Jor-El kisses Lara, one last time before their world goes Nova. We see the ship traveling at an impossible pace with some green fragments of Krypton’s core as it hurtles toward the earth.
Kents finding him. They look around mid 30’s Couple, on their way home from Martha’s Aunt’s funeral, while Martha is crying to her husband that her Aunt had so many children there for her, and that at hers will be none because they have not been able to have a child. Jonathan ties to console her with "Well Martha, maybe its just not in our plan, we have friends, nephews Nieces, maybe we just are not meant to have kids. If the Lord wants us to, he would make sure we have them, but we won’t be lonely".

At that moment the Meteor lands and the car swerves off the road to avoid getting rolled over when the object lands in the field, carving a path of charred destruction in its wake. As Martha asks Jonathan if he is ok, she hears the sound of an terribly upset baby screaming from the direction of the wreckage.

We have a few scenes of him growing up, and perhaps some traveling of the world as a young man, and finding out the truth about why he could help humanity, but also about why he cannot change human nature. We see him in collage getting his degree in journalism.

We see Clark’s first day in Metropolis, meeting Lois, getting hired at the planet. We see a Lois that finds find Clark a bit comical, as she comments "how a big farm kid from smaaallville seems kind of out of place in the big city. But you are kind of cute. Here let me show you around, but don’t slow me down. you have to learn to keep up....Smallville".

We see his first day as Superman, he fouls some terrorist activity, when a building blown up partially and no one can get out, and it is about to fall to one side. Superman holds up the ousted support beam, while flying, and stabilizes the building long enough for the people to get out. Then he flies off with the empty building half to safe place to set it down.

Later we find out that Luthor was behind this, just to capitalize on some opportunity that lends itself for him to look like a hero, and at the same time label is meager competition as unreliable.
Even though superman fouled the plan by saving the day instead.

This easily leads to a feud between Superman and Lex later on when Superman confronts Luthor about what he knows, and that "Lex you're not going to get away with this sort of thing anymore."

Lex is NOT the main villain of the movie however. We just want to introduce him and show that he is a constant thorn in superman’s side, but not a villain that can be taken care of in one movie. You get the felling superman is always going to have to deal with this guy.

We fast-forward into this world by about 6 months after superman gets to Metropolis for Brainiac's arrival.

Brainiac would be our main villain here. He would come to earth, seeming friendly not much different than STAS. Brainiac would try to look like a benevolent force, that only has the best interests in humanity at heart.

Luthor gets involved and promotes Brainiac as a cosmic savior of humanities ills. He is the perfect mouthpiece for Brainiac. Luthor would refer to Brainiac in a public display as a being who is "more benevolent than the Alien boy-scout could ever be. After all Superman will only save you if you fall off a rooftop, or maybe lift something heavy before it falls on you".

Luthor continues with "Brainiac here will bring humanity into the next age. He will bestow us with Technology that can rid the human race of disease, starvation, poverty and war. All we need to do is trust him, for he is giving us real hope, and real change. Unlike that other one, who saves a few people now and then, but never wants to get involved in humanities real destiny. Dare I say, compared to Brainiac, Superman is Selfish-man!"

Once Brainiac is established on earth, he starts to download all known information and data from earth. Again we are going with similar the STAS version of him here. It only takes moments for him to accomplish this. Then he gives Luthor plans for building a new type of zero waste energy plant. In fact the plant is actually a bomb that would annihilate the earth, and thus delete any chances of new information coming about that would force Brainiac to have to continue to update his saved version of our world.

When the plant is almost finished being built, Lois, while investigating finds out what the plant really is and puts it in print. Superman visits Lex at his tower, to confront him about why he is helping Brainiac. Luthor responds with the basic "you are just jellous that another Alien is showing up to do more good for us than you ever did. It is also I who was able to recognize the Alien, you, that would only stand in my way of helping humanity, and that Brainiac was truly here to give us a better tomorrow. You on the other hand will not be allowed to interfere in our plans anymore!"

Lex opens what looks like an engagement ring box, made of led, exposing a Kryptonite ring. Superman stagers back recoiling from the poisonous rock. Lex then pushes a button on his desk and immediately the windows of his office close with mechanical shades that turn the Sunlight beaming in to red. "What is the matter Superman"? Lex boasts. "Is it the Kryptonite? Or the fact that with red Solar energy your powers just don’t work?" Lex punches Superman several times, and looks like he is going to keep on beating him.

Superman then throws Lex off of himself, by several feet. "Lex you never know when you are ahead do you?" Superman punches Lex in face knocking him down to the ground and we see Lex looks dizzy, his eyes glazed and see he is missing a few teeth.

"You did not consider the way Red Solar energy not only temporarily removes my Powers, but is also removes my weakness to Kryptonite". Superman pulls the Kryptonite ring off of Lex’ hand, puts it back in the lead case, and with his other hand pushes the button that opens the windows again, pouring in yellow sunlight. Superman turns to Lex "In your arrogance you forgot Lex, even without my Powers, I’m still strong enough to handle you!"

Superman flies away with Lex’ ring still in the box. We purposefully do not show the audience what he does with it, that is left for other writers.

When the public reads about what Brainiac has been up to, the US Air force leads and air strike on the power-plant/bomb. The air strike is futile as Brainiac’s defenses shoot down the Jets.
Brainiac responds by immediately starting to create havoc to distract earth’s authorities and superman by taking over every automated piece of machinery in the city that is in close proximity to him. He quickly builds mechanical death squads, terminator (similar to the T-800 as you can go without getting sued) like machines, which hunt down all and any human life in the area as they are now trying to interfere with his plan. Along with these are giant "devastation walkers" which look like the 3 legged machines from War of the Worlds, or as close as we can go without getting sued.

Now superman goes to the almost fully constructed power-plant/bomb, to confront Brainiac, who’s physical form is also just as powerful as Superman is, and they begin to fight it out.
During the fight, Superman is being portrayed as the slight underdog. Brainiac tells superman that the most annoying part of his mere existence, is constantly having to update the information regarding the fate of Krypton, as it and all of its data are part of Brainiac now, but because one Kryptonian still lives, the data will always be incomplete.

The truth that his home world was destroyed by Brainiac puts Superman over the edge. Superman fights harder and more violently, so Brainiac changes tactics at this time to "now absorb all of the energy you expend in this futile effort to stop the inevitable".

Brainiac seems to have the upper hand again, as he is starting to absorb Superman’s stored up solar energy, and even the ambient energy around himself as well.

As a last effort superman responds with "then absorb THIS" as he hits Brainiac with planet shaking force, and sends Brainiac flying into the almost finished energy-bomb-plant reactor. Brainiac not only causes the core to go critical mass, but absorbs most of the explosion, destroying himself, and the resulting EMP wave scrambles all known traces of his program from any technology in the area he may have downloaded himself onto.

The Day Saved.

Superman lands in a desert, under a full blaring sun, and sprawls out on the sand like an exhausted boxer falling down and taking in air after winning a hard match. – This is the moment where the audience gets that "let the air out, and relief feeling".

Then later we wind things up with Clark and Lois at the Planet, and after finishing their story, Clark asks Lois if she wants to go out for coffee, to which Lois responds smiling, "a big farm kid like you doesn’t drink beer?" Or just something slightly comical and light that sort of shows the seeds of a relationship with Lois and Clark being sown.

More can be put into an Epilogue, such as Luthor speaking with a scientist in a massive lab owned by Lex-corp; "Could we salvage anything from the EMP blast?"

Scientist: "all known traces of the alien intelligence are fried, nothing left".

Luthor: "can we salvage anything at all, or is this entire situation going to be a loss for us?"

Scientist: "all I have left are some hard copy notes, incomplete at that, on how to clone the complex kryptonian DNA, but with how incomplete the information is we could just end up with some Bizarre result if we even tried"

Luthor: "I have complete confidence in you". – coldly in a way that implies he has to try anyway and has no choice.

The end…

greenktoo some very nice stuff there. i loved the smallville/world stuff. i would drop the erdicator knowing about kryptonite off the bat before we see any. i rather clark and or/star labs learning about what kryptonite is.

Supermike, some great stuff there. i would enjoy seeing alot of that happen.

Here`s my script in brief:

1st act)

It Starts with Clark saving people around the world, before he dons the costume. He feels that his hands are tied and decides he needs to go public in order to make a more drastic change in society. He goes back to Smallville to talk about his decision to his parents and we flashback to his childhood, how he discovered his powers and how he began saving people. Then he goes to Metropolis, we are introduced to the new Luthor who`s a famous scientist and corporate genius and not evil. We have Superman first appearance where he meets reporter Lois Lane and Jimmy.

2nd act)

Lex recieves some kind of alien space signal and the government ask Superman for help. He is not able to decode it but is able to pinpoint the origin because of his ship. Him and Luthor develop a partnership and then embark in a journey through space to the point of origin of the signal to find out: Nothing! An asteroid field of Kryptonite. Superman faints, the ship crashes. Cut to black.

We`re inside Braniac ship. They discover Braniac is a very advanced computer whos been collecting technollogy from all over the universe. He also finds out Krypton is gone, what saddens him a lot, but Brainiac has the remains of its culture in an orb and proposes to Supes to help him destroy other races to collect tech and their culture and in return, he will give Superman pieces of memories from Krypton. Superman refuses and fights him, losing. Brainiac says that thanks to him, he knows the location of Earth and plans of a big invasion.

3rd act)

Hell on earth! Braniac arrives on Earth, creating chaos, same as he did to Krypton before. Lois somehow sneeks into the ship, saves Supes. Big fight in the end that culminates with Brainiac`s ship exploding and Lex losing his hair.

Lex blames Supes for what happened to him and starts an anti-alien campaign because of what happened to Earth. Superman is the one to blame in the end. Luthor gives a speech in the end and shows the construction of the LexCorp building, saying "humanity is capable of achieving greatness and aspiring to the heavens without having to wear capes". People cheer. Government passes a law against Superman.

Superman then decides to go undercover and disguise himself as a human, as a reporter, inspired by Lois, to uncover the truth about Brainiac, Luthor and preserve Superman`s image as a hero.

As a consolation prize, Supes can now decode the signal Luthor recieved in the beginning. It`s the transmission Jor-el sent to space to find a world for baby Kal-el. In it, he shares his last moments on Krypton and the sacrifice he did to save his son.

Superman begins!

that sounds pretty good. only thing i dont really like is the no clark kent persona/reporter to the end. But overall a nice idea man.

Here´re some ideas that I´ve been putthing together for a while.

SUPERMAN: THE LEGACY

ACT 1- Superman is at the top of the world. He can protect/save people from anything, from working accidents to terrorist attacks, he´s beloved by all, Lois is more and more crazy about him, even though she still doesn´t know he and Clark are the same person, sill teases Clark and everything.

But then Metallo surfaces and suddenly attacks him, with Luthor, more spiteful than ever of Superman´s success, pulling the strings. A big fight ensues, at one point Metallo seriously weakens Superman with Kryptonite and throws a ton of tocks and concrete on top of him. As Superman struggles to release himself, Metallo wants to sadistically demonstrate his fragility and kills an innocent person in front of Superman. Enraged, Supes manages to release himself and defeat him. People still cheer for him, but the death haunts him.

With Ma and Pa Kent, as Clark, he ponders, what if I let the people of Earth down, what if something terrible happens that I can´t stop, even with all my powers and popularity it can all go away in a blink. They reassure him, with all his powers deep down he´s as human as any of us, and that´s his real greatest strength. He flies away feeling better, wathing the beautiful fields of Smallville. As all of these happens, the hordes of Darkseid conquer another world with the iron fist of his army, and get closer and closer to Earth

ACT 2 – Darkseid´s army attacks Earth with all its power, causing huge devastation. Superman fights his army with all his might, but even he can´t contain such power. Luthor makes a deal with Darkseid to help him as the new ruler of Earth.

Dr. Hamilton clues Supes that he´s found the location to Apokolips, maybe with the ship that brought him to Earth he can get there, take advantage that Darkseid and his main army are absent, and find something that can help save Earth. He alerts him, though, that the distance from Earth´s yellow sun will seriously weaken him. Superman is afraid, he couldn´t save Earth with his power, can he do it without it. Pa Kent reminds him that bad things happen to anyone, but you don´t need super powers to overcome these bad things or even impossible obstacles, but strength of mind and heart.

Superman kisses Lois goodbye, thinks for a moment that he may never see her again, and reveals his true identity.

Superman is forced to leave Earth at the blink of obliteration, just as he once had to leave Krypton.

On Apokolips, Superman finds an entirely different situation from Earth. His powers are seriously reduced, the mere mention of the name Superman inspires hatred and rage, he has to be as undercover as possible. In disguise, he uses his skills as an investigative reporter to infiltrate Darkseid´s palace.

In there, however, he´s uncovered and Kalibak decides to destroy him. They fight, and even weakened Superman manages to figure out his weakness and defeat him.

Because he´s Superman and he can see the humanity in even the worst of creatures, he sees Kalibak for who he is underneath: a frustrated son, desperately seeking a father´s approval that will just never come. Superman understands him, he has to live up to the legacy of two great men, the Kryptonian scientist and the Kansas farmer, to an entire race that has him as its sole survivor and a planet that adopted him. He manages to reach out to Kalibak, who reveals him a secret that will help save Earth from Darkseid (I´m not sure what that secret is yet, let´s save some surprises for my meeting with WB, hehe…).

As all of this happens, Earth falls more and more under Darkseid´s tyranny. Luthor realizes some of his deal with him isn´t being fulfilled and, angry, goes to Darkseid only to find out he´s been double-crossed for Darkseid to get access to his advanced weaponry technology, and is thrown into the dungeons with the rest of the slaves.

ACT 3 – Superman returns to Earth and finds the planet under dictatorship, people enslaved and caged by Darkseid´s reign of terror. More determined than ever, Superman fights with all he´s got and finds the key to get Darkseid to leave the planet, thanks to the secret Kalibak told him.

Darkseid accepts his (momentary) defeat and prepares to leave, but before he reveals, Lois resisted bravely all the mental and physical torture, which was tremendous, but in the end she had to give in. I know your secret, Earth´s champion, and will use it to my advantage. He didn´t kill her though, because Superman´ll be so busy and tortured helping her to recover from all the trauma, and being reminded of his mistake, it will weaken his spirit even more.

But Darkseid also knows where he gets his guidance and support from, and that won´t be there anymore for him.

And then he obliterates Smallville from the face of the Earth with a hidden nuke.

Blind with rage, Superman attacks Darkseid but he manages to escape.

Luthor is prosecuted as a traitor of the human race, and awaits for lethal injection.

Clark and Lois, still in a wheelchair, attend to a collective, symbolic funeral for the people of Smallville. Nobody but Lois and Clark understand why he destroyed a city with no strategic importance of any kind. With tremendous sadness, but more determination than ever, he remembers they tought him their last but most important lesson: deep down he´s as human as anyone else and bad things still happen to him, to Earth and to those he loves. But that humanity is his greatest power, for it gives him the strength of mind and heart to overcome tragedy and surpass impossible obstacles. This isn´t the last we saw of Darkseid, and he´ll pay for this and for all evil he´s done, he oaths at the memorial for his adoptive parents and the people of Smallville. It isn´t truth that you won´t have guidance and support, says Lois. I´ll be here for that, too, as she holds his arm.

After the funeral, Clark gets a call from Dr.Hamilton, he may have something important for him to know, regarding Darkseid. Clark kisses Lois as the wind blows autumn leaves around them. Discretely, he hides and changes suit. Superman takes flight, watching thebeautiful mountains and forests and the sun rise, as he disappears in the horizon.

some very nice stuff there. Only issue i see is its a bit much for just one film.

Yea i get your feeling on wanting the film to be epic, which i hope this next film will be. But then having all that stuff like metallo, lex, and all of darkseid and all that seems a bit much and all that for a first film too. But it has some good things i definatelly would like to see on the big screen. But probably better for a 2nd or 3rd movie. Since we know they are more likely wanting to be a new begining and have some sort or origin and starting point. So probably a fresh to the job superman, or the story coming in he has been around for a little bit and maybe isnt fully public just yet. There is so much they could do this time.

I´m thinking of ditching the Lex subplot, it´s not essential to the plot.

ok its your idea, i was just giving my opinion on it. For me perferably i would go with lex/lexcorp with brainiac as main threat, or lex/lexcorp with creating metallo as a good starting out film.

I see your point about maybe being too much, I don´t want it to feel overstuffed (like Spidey 3).

Interesting ideas there. It does feel like a bit much. If you want people to care what happens to the characters it may require more character development early on. A lot happens, but you can't assume the audience will have any emotional attachment to the lead characters just b/c they're well known. the action portions sound good and i like the ending, tragic but strong.

I gotta say Webhead i think it's awesome that you take the time to read each post and give solid feedback. It seems like few do but you always have something postive and constructive to say. As someone who's posted ideas here before i just want to say thanks for always offer solid feedback.

thanks day yea i try my best to look at what everyone has to say and give my feedback to them if they want to hear it. Though i know alot of us have some many different ideas and thought on how we want to see superman on the big screen. Hopefully this next film will be what most of us want to see out of the character.
