TED (Seth MacFarlane / Mark Wahlberg / Mila Kunis)

Almost all of the major character voice actors from Family Guy make an appearance in the movie. The only ones missing are Seth Green/ Chris and whoever does the voice for Quagmaire and Adam West.
MacFarlane does Quagmire's voice

-DOOM :doom:

I know there were so many brats under 30 that didn't get the Flash Gordon references. It came out when I was like 2, but I actually kept up with all the cult stuff it was based in.

Growing up as an 80s kid, I think I embarrassed myself in the theater laughing so hard. If Brian Blessed was in the movie, I think I'd have been hospitalized.

At least they showed them watching Flash Gordon earlier in the film so audiences wouldn't be clueless. I saw it for the first time last year..

I haven't seen Ted yet, but how was Brandon Routh bashed?

I probably would have cheered!

They talk about him being washed up and basically crap all over Superman Returns. This all comes up in the epilogue when they reveal that the actor who played Flash Gordon moved into an apartment with Brandon Routh and is looking to restart his movie career lol.

Enjoyed this and found it much funnier than I expected. Tons of great pop culture references and my crowd laughed a lot. Though I think Seth's comedy suits animation like Family Guy better, it worked pretty well here.

3.5/5.

Flash Gordon virtually played on a loop on HBO back in the 80s, I think I watched almost as much as they did. I was dying laughing at those references...and yes, I think I was one of about 8 people in the audience who fully appreciated that.

Then again, I think the spoof from Airplane went right over their heads too.

The one part that I'm certain only like a third of my audience got was when Donny was telling Ted when he saw him on the Carson Show.

"Yeah, that was weird interview, Ed thought I was Alf. He kept muttering anti-Semetic remarks....I guess he thought like, Alf was Jewish or something, I don't know."

At this point, I'm not even sure they knew who Johnny and Ed were.

I wonder what interview they used for that scene?

Emmanuel Lewis maybe?

I think it was the guy that played Tattoo on Fantasy Island.

saw it yesterday, loved the flash gordon references :D
7/10

I LOVED the Airplane bit, I was hoping when Mark tossed his jacket and did a disco pose it was gonna fly back in hit him just like it did in the original movie :).

Just got out of it…pretty much what I expected. Not too many laugh out loud moments for me other than the fight but a lot of chuckles and smiling on my part. But I really enjoyed it.

7 or 8 for me.

Gotta say though…it took A LOT of effort to keep myself from yelling, "Shut up, Meg." at some point during the movie.

A LOT.

Saw it last night. I'm still laughing just thinking about it.

I was actually disappointed that the jacket didn't fly back at him. :oldrazz:

And I think that was another pop-culture revenue that flew over the heads of half of my audience. Which makes me feel old.

Damn you Seth McFarland, because of TED, I went out and bought Flash Gordon on Blu Ray........and loved it all over again ;).

:cmad: hey, don't you ruin Mila Kunis for me.

Just got back from the movie. When Ted said he had a gf with a white trash name I thought for sure her name was going to be Meg.
