With these numbers, I could see them putting together a sequel but with a different director and star (on the basis that they didn't add value to a strong franchise). Most of the production budget was raised from overseas distributors and it's done well overseas.

^I'd be more than happy to see the last of McG but I hope Bale sticks around. I'd like to see him get a chance to redeem himself in fans' and critics' eyes.

You don't have to hope, it aint happening.

Christain Bale knows that the movie wasn't very good (and wasn't good for his career) and will find a way out of whatever contract he signed so they will have to look for another actor. The guys who own the franchise now will have to get on hands and knees and beg for another 200mil to a movie that most didn't care enough to see and, those that did, found it to be disappointing.

As I've said time and time again, another Terminator movie will probably come out but it won't be for a long time and it won't be a sequel to Salvation.

I don't know... 350 is a decent figure. Any way they can still make a cheap sequel without Conner/Bale? Maybe just a new story all together, or continue with Marcus, or Connor's children? Or do they have to have John Connor for a sequel? I didn't see the film so I don't know.

^Marcus died in the movie so no, and we didn't even get to see Kate give birth to her kid. I really think the next movie should focus on John and show what he's capable of and why he's a hero to all of humanity.

I appreciate your sarcasm because I had the exact same response to that post.

Most movies seem to make some profit because of T.V rights and DVD sales that doesn't mean that all movies are going to get a sequel.

The comparision to Star Trek is pretty useless as Star Trek was actually well liked and it didn't make less than the last Star Trek movie. If the last Terminator had made a say 600mil worldwide then the drop wouldn't matter as much but the last one didn't, so it does.

It's going to be sad when the fans of Salvation realize that a sequel isn't coming. And I'm not trying to be snarky when I say that.

if we look at numbers it looks like TS made the same money outside like ST in the US. the problem is IMO that noone talks about this movie. at least TF2 is bashed on the forums. the masses liked it . a lot of people didnt like the movie on the internet. but terminator? i see noone talking about the movie. why? because it looks like noone cares. noone gives a s.... about this movie.

It's always been clear that the studios care about the domestic numbers more than the international ones. Salvation performed terribly in the U.S.

As Jamie said, the fact that the T.V show tanked and the last two movies underformed and weren't well recieved have killed this franchise for a while.

Not in this movie's case, since it had separate studios for domestic and international distribution.

Sony distributed the film internationally. The domestic take means nothing to them, since all of their profits will come from the international territories they picked up from Halcyon.

WB only had 50 million invested in this film, where as Sony put up almost twice that amount. In this movie's case, it was probably more crucial that film performed as well as it did internationally.

for a movie that made so much money to some people here ......you have to admit that they are very quiet. hmmmm

that didnt happen with star trek or transformers or iron man. where is news about terminator 2 ?

If they've made so much money off of it how come a sequel hasn't been greenlit (even unofficially) yet?

The question is do you really expect another 200+ million dollar Bale staring Terminator movie in the next four years? Even if you take Bale out do you really expect another Terminator movie in the next four years...cause I don't and would bet a sig on it.

Can anyone translate what the heck he just said please?

You said that studios care more about domestic numbers, than the international ones.

I disagreed with that statement because in this movie's case, two different studios were handling distribution and Sony (the international distributor), contributed almost twice as much money to this movie's production, than the domestic distributor did.

That's why it was crucial that the film performed even better overseas, than it did here in the states because Sony had more money at stake, than WB.

That's my point.

Jee... thanks for clearing that up... o well. I was going to bootleg it anyway.

Sorry. :csad: I thought you didn't care about the movie and wouldn't mind knowing the ending.

It's not up to a studio to greenlight a sequel. It would likely be an independent film, just like T3 and TS, with most of the finance provided by overseas parties.

Warner Bros alledgedly put up $50m + P&A for the domestic distribution rights and out of that they achieved a theatrical BO of $125m + whatever they get in ancillaries. That's not great but it's better than the majority of movies. I can't see why that would put another US distributor from financing a sequel.

Far more important it whether Sony are happy with the return on their investment. If they opted out of a sequel, that would cause delays.

How much did Halcyon put in? I thought they pretty much self financed a good portion of the film. If Sony put in 50 million, WB put in 50 million, then they had to finance the rest no?

Earlier in this thread, someone said that Sony paid $100m and WB $60m. In addition there were six overseas territories (including Korea) where there was local distribution, so that's more money. There may be other sources of income such as the rights to toy lines, magazines, product placement and perhaps even tax rebates. If that still came up short, Halcyon may have been able to call on an investment fund. It's unlikely they put much of their own money into it.

There's something on the financing of T3 here.

This could be a case of the Sword and the Sorcerer. Where everyone who put there money in made it back, and there happy with that. So, they took the money and ran.

I don't get it. I thought these guys were calling all the shots in terms of bringing in Bale/McG... hiring the writers... how do studios just blindly invest in a couple of knuckleheads who didn't have a clue what they are doing?
