The same people who like Michael Bay will like McG after this.

and vice-versa.

Wrong. I don't like Bay but I'd let McG have another round if they get the script and writer in order.

Also, McG is a better action director then Bay. I could actually tell what was happening.

Has Cameron seen TS? Did he ever say what he thought of it?

In the most recent GQ, there's an interview with Bale where he goes into how he accepted the Connor role. He accepted when he was shooting TDK before the writer's strike. He didn't like the script, but he thought there was enough time to fix it before shooting. Then, the writer's strike happened. He assumed that they would postpone the movie and was surprised when the studio didn't. They just didn't have enough time to polish the script and evidently it shows.

Well, the WGA strike ended early February 2008 and filming on TS started early May 2008 (a good three months for Nolan, Haggis, etc. to polish it). Granted, they didn't have nearly enough time to work on the script thoroughly, but it wasn't like TS started shooting the day before the strike ended.

True, but 3 months is still a significant chunk of time that was lost. The script was obviously not ready by the time shooting started. I think McG or Bale described the script as a moving target or something and that it changed throughout the shoot. That is never a good sign for any movie.

Funny how all this talk comes after the movie is released to terrible reviews. All throughout the production, all I kept hearing was how the script was polished by the likes of Nolan and Haggis, and it wasn't until that was done, that they convinced Bale and Worthington to sign up.

13.4mil? I expected it to do about 17mil yesterday. They better hope for a Indy4 type run over the weekend.

Erm, that's because McG's a liar.
Yes, unfortunately. Either way it's a stupid move to perform. Did he not think the BS would get uncovered sooner or later? Minds as well be honest from the get-go, because you'll only make yourself look worse once the lies start getting dug up.

So basically they started shooting right after the writer's strike?

I believe they started shooting in April or May while Bale was still shooting Public Enemies. He joined them in June after he wrapped PE. In an interview, Bale said he finished shooting Public Enemies and then four days later, he started work on TS.

Didn't the strike end in March? So that's not long after.

It ended February 12th. I haven't seen TS yet, but other flicks like Star Trek, Quantum of Solace and a few others were affected by the strike too.

Oh no, Salvation only made 13 million in it's 1st day. I guess this movie is already a flop :whatever:. Oh brother. Some people need to get a hold of themselves. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End only made about 13 million on it's first day, and it opened on a Thursday too, just like Salvation. Let's see what the whole weekend is like for Salvation before jumping to conclusions. I predict Salvation over the weekend will exceed expectations and make more money than most people are predicting.

I'm not calling the movie a failure because I'm waiting for the friday and saturday numbers.

At Worlds End and Salvation can't be compared because Pirates 3 came out at 8pm on on thrusday. Salvation came out a 12am on thrusday. It had whole 24 hours while Pirates didn't.

CHECK YOUR FREAKIN FACTS BEFORE YOU WHINE!

And stop reading boxoffice prophets, it's a terrible boxoffice website.

Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily blog has a weekly (and accurate) box-office prediction thread. And she updates it much more frequently (and earlier) than Box Office Mojo.

Not sure if this is out of place but... they did not credit Nolan primary.. that means he gave external inputs. No one will ever know how much he provided (or how much of his input was altered afterwards). If McG wants to tout Jonah Nolan, he needs to credit him and let his true inputs be realized. Something tells me Jonah gave ideas but it was all "the others" that made things concrete. Hint for McG: Hire Jonah and only him. Go with that! No more tomfoolery@! Make T5 great!

Agreed, on all points.

but why the dry face? It's a valid question, isn't it?

I don't recall, but when Pirates came out at 8pm on Thursday, were there also midnight showings after that?

Only reason I ask, is because you can't really say that TS had a whole 24 hours, as I'm sure there weren't any 3 am - 7 am shows anywhere. :woot:

But I get what you're saying. :)

Cute.

The fact of the matter is I'm not s**tting a brick over todays numbers because it could recover over the weekend but 13.4mil is a disappointing open day number.

Sarcasm? Disdain? Hatred? Honesty? I can't quite tell. ;) :)

I'm not too worried either. The film could easily recover, however, bad word of mouth may prematurely damage it's chances. We'll see I suppose. I hope it really does put up some good numbers, because I think, under the proper writing and direction (now that they've had a stab at it and have had their mistakes pointed out), McG, Bale and crew could produce a sequel that would be more generally liked. That said, I did enjoy this particualar film myself.
