I think everybody wants other peoples opinions, if not why are you even on a message board, just to give yours?

you mean actually having to go and see a movie and judge for yourself whether or not it's worth a damn. Instead of relying on rotton tomatoes and the internet?

a concept so strange it just might work

oh wait, it did. In a time before the internet and rotton whogivesa****?

I mostly judge what I want to see from viewing the trailers.

YES!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!

that's not a tough concept to grasp is it?

wait, for some people here that's rocket science...............:whatever:

how do you know unless you see it?

It's simply playing the odds, if a movie is getting trashed, why would someone want to put their $15 on the line on the off chance they may be one of the few who likes it?

I think it takes time to develop a trust with a reviewer and sometime people don't always see things the same way. I've read reviews where I completly agreed but felt they were wrong about other films. I think going by reviews is also a gamble. You can usually tell alot from the trailer.

I think trailers are the least reliable source of being able to judge if a film if worth paying to see, 9 times out of 10 the trailers end up misleading or end up looking better than the finished product.

I can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking my head up a bulls a$$ but I'd much rather take the butchers word for it
A Tommy Boy quote?

I have a real soft spot for that movie

I've only been burned a couple times with it. Alot of movie I would go to see anyway. I heard Spider-Man 3 was awful but couldn't avoid it.

Exactly. When Rotten Tomatoes likes a movie that you like they are great when they don't it's a waste of time. Seriously most of the time IMHO RT is pretty reliable.

QFT

The stages of fanboy disillusionment:

1. *before reviews come in* "I can't wait to see what the critics have to say about this movie. I'm betting the tomatometer will be the high 70s at least."

2. *early positive reviews pop up* "Yes!!! I told you guys this movie would be awesome!!!" (If there are no positive reviews skip this step and go straight to Step 3)

3. *first negative reviews appear* "That critic has no idea what he's talking about. Obviously he's an idiot/has an agenda."

4. *slew of negative reviews arrive* "Oh screw RT. Watch the movie for yourself and don't let the critics tell you what to think."

I remember when the Dark Knight came out there was a poster on here who said something to the extent of which was "what are we gonna do to the first critic that gives this movie a bad review". I read through the whole thread so it's not like he was saying it to be funny, it was sad.

$15? ? ?

what theater do you see your movies at?

It cost $5 for me to see it in the morning, $7.50 at night

you're just another case of "over exagerating" and blatantly trying to be an *******

get over yourself

Yeah, there's very much a double standard to critics by fandom.

I do think though that way too much attention is paid to the bottom line and RT% though. Yes, that tells you something, but it's much more important to read what the critics are actually saying. What arguments are they using? A good critic is one that you might disagree with, but who writes well and makes well reasoned arguments.

Really, that's odd because where I live Matinee prices are $7.50 and at night the prices are $11. And of course if you bring your girlfriend instead of a friend that would be $15 and $22. And that's of course if you don't want anything to drink or eat while in the theater. And if you want to be practical there is also the gas money you spend getting there.

sucks to live where you live then

I saw it twice for $10

it's no wonder you guys don't like taking chances on movies, ya'll are getting robbed

You're right, I should spend a couple thousand dollars to pack up everything I own and put a down payment on a new house and leave my state so I can see more crappy movies in theaters. Why didn't I think about that before.

Music to my ears that the film hasn't even made 30 million in two days of a Holiday weekend. Let this be the end of the McG's of the world ruining great franchises from the past. Tired of Hollywood capitalizing on the hard work of true visionaries like James Cameron. And I hope this turns out to be one of the worst career moves for Bale, but I do hope he bounces back from this. If he does the sequel, I won't care about him anymore.

Yup... that's how much it costs me these days as well. I can't afford those prices on a weekly or every other weekend basis... even during the summer season. Give me a film on par with Star Trek or Iron Man or TDK or I probably won't watch it in theatres.

No comparisons to Spider-man are valid, and TS is doing terrible and it might not win the weekend.

Hey look, there's Jonathan Mostow...

Now McG is hitting his kneecaps with a baseball bat. Thanks McG! You didn't do enough damage though.
