Yea there was a survey about them fruit smoothies over here in england. Apparently they have more sugar and calories than fizzy drink like coke and lilt and the like.

Smoothies can be good for you but it's better to make those at home using real fruit, skim milk, small portioned sugar/sweetner etc..The ones you get at smoothie joints are often little more than modified ice cream.
I think the smoothie is the biggest scam out there...
a quick and easy way to get your fruit intake and vitamin intake, ya.
but when you weigh it up with the amount of fructose (sugar in fruit) and the portions you are drinking, then you are barking up the wrong tree.
that's why they started selling them in tiny portions because it's crazy. The average smoothie is probably really bad for you sugar wise and will errode your teeth away.
But they don't tell ya that when you are forking over your cash for a dispenser or across the counter.
all these fruits are high in sugar ranking up
Fruits Lowest in Sugar
Small Amounts of Lemon or Lime
Rhubarb
Raspberries (more about berries on low carb diets)
Blackberries
Cranberries
Fruits Low to Medium in Sugar
Strawberries
Casaba Melon
Papaya
Watermelon
Peaches
Nectarines
Blueberries
Cantaloupes
Honeydew Melons
Apples
Guavas - Pineapple Guavas (Feijoa) and Strawberry Guavas are probably similar, but information that directly compares them is not available
Apricots
Grapefruit
Dried Fruit such as these are also really bad (infact most dried fruit are highly concentrated in sugar)
Dates
Raisins
Dried Apricots
so as you can see, a lot of usual smoothie ingredients are listed in high and very high. by the time you've got enough of them to make your smoothie then it's really getting bad.
nature has already attempted to portion these things up, we then still go and overindulge by making them in to liquids and making them more likely part of our 2 litre water/liquid daily intake and 'eat' on top of it a whole 'nother batch of unknown stuff.
Again, the average person is completely unaware but has the assumption that what they are doing is healthy when it isn't the whole picture.

It's no Fat Organic Yogurt. It's one Banana, with a handfull of Strawberries. I might add in just a little bit of milk. Depends if I feel frisky.
I make enough for 2 servings. Sometimes I have this with a low calorie lunch, like a cup and a half of Spinach with a tablespoon of Light Ranch.
Plus, on Livestrong.com, you can find out the Nutritional information for almost anything, I could figure out the Information for everything I put into it, and make my own "Meal" that spells it out for me.
I think everyone is entitled to go all out and have something unhealthy sometimes. I don't think you should live your whole life worrying about calories and such. Sometimes, you deserve a treat.
It's when you are eating burgers or pizzas or crap like that every single day you should start worrying.
Like Knaves said, you have to let loose sometime....Ive had the most unhealthy item from each fast food chain at least once....The Baconator, The Steakhouse Shroom and Swiss, Bacon Cheddar Chalupa, those bowls from KFC...
Really though making yourself a fruit smoothie or even buying a real fruit smoothie is a lot better than the 2,600 calorie milkshake back there on the list.
No one is going to have a perfect diet but I think many people (especially us Americans) would greatly benefit just from cutting out the absurd amount of total **** we eat and replacing it with less ****** foods.

Well it all depends on how much milk you add and what you determine to be a portion and also what you have it with and you prepare said dish.
still i believe the average smoothie maker goes overboard on the fruits and puts like 11 different fruits in and gets high on sugar because that's what they show on the informercials.
i see those fresh orange machines where it takes like 14 oranges to make one cup of juice. Thinking about it, you wouldn't sit down and eat the content of 14 oranges in a day but you buy into the health idea of it.

The most unhealthy thing I have ever eaten was the "Full-English Stick".
It's a french stick, filled with two sausages, 2 hash browns, 2 fried eggs, 2 tomatoes, 2 rashers of bacon and baked beans. Now that was a BEAST!! And this was all consumed at about 7.30 am on the way to work!! It did get my energy levels up for the days work though!

Well this is like saying dying 16 years prematurely is better than dying 20 years prematurely. I've gained four years.
most still aren't aware of what is actually going into what they eat across the whole board. Sure somethings may stand out as being worse but you don't know how much worse. I'm fairly sure if you informed anyone that a shake contained a day and a half's worth of fat, they would less likely to consume it.
same way if you told someone a litre of orange juice had your full day's worth of sugar and is just as bad for your teeth as drinking coke (bar carbonation effect) or still fanta, they would be more cautious about how they drank it under the guise of health
