Alright who will be singing the title track? Gaga, Ariana, Dua Lipa, Cynthia Erivo, Harry Styles, Jung Kook, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd?
I think, based solely on popularity, it will probably be between Ariana, Gaga, Carpenter and Roan. The first two have that big theatrical quality to their voices that a lot of Bond themes are known for, and the latter two lean much more pop-y, which would definitely be a nice change of pace after a lot of the more slower and somber themes we’ve had in the past few films.

Just going off of vibes, I’m leaning towards Ariana. She just had her big film breakout with Wicked late last year, with Part II releasing at the end of this year, so she’s very much in the public consciousness right now. She can do pop and, as Wicked showed, she can also go really big if she needs to. Aside from Lady Gaga, she’s probably the most versatile and well-rounded artist on this list. And her doing a Bond theme would definitely attract a lot of the younger people.

I was having a not so good day right up until I saw this news.

Holy s**t! Out of all the possible candidates, Villeneuve was the last one I was expecting, I’m absolutely not complaining whatsoever, though. Fantastic choice.

You were saying? :hehe:

Yeah, he’s gonna do right by this.

Thirded. After all the s**t they’ve been pulling this year, f**k ‘em.

I'll still believe it when I see the cameras rolling. Or even after that. But yeah that was an extremely pleasant shocker. :D
Perhaps, and maybe even likely, but the tone across all of his films is pretty consistent. We'll see.
His first movie is almost a comedy.
It shouldn’t literally be Moonraker but it should also kind of be Moonraker.
I don't know. After five consecutive sci-fi movies and before he makes another one with Rama I'd probably prefer for him to return to his more grounded roots for this one for a change of pace.

Hmmmm....of the Wicked stars I feel like Cynthia would be a better fit. I have a hard time imagining what an Ariana Bond song would sound like. Idk, maybe if she went back to channeling this vibe, I could kinda see it...

(lol Larry)

Anyway, the Denis news is way better than anything I could've hoped for...so much so that I feel like it could fall through at any moment and I won't believe it until it's actually in production. :funny: But this is definitely the first hope I've felt for the future of Bond since Amazon news broke. Please work out! :fingerscrossed:

So, I guess with Denis Villeneuve doing this, the chances of Hans Zimmer coming back to score are pretty high.

Make the villain a Elon Musk-style multi-trillionaire techbro stand-in running a SpaceX expy and a media platform who is also in good with a bunch of people in the military industrial complex and the US government, where he helps fund and oversee the development of the Moonraker program. He is also using his influence and propaganda through social media to control the narrative and stoke the fires of public sentiment try to start World War III, all to line his pockets so he can continue funding his research and projects. Have him get exposed online through his own social media platform and die at the end by one of his own Moonraker missiles. So, a little “Goldeneye”, a little “Tomorrow Never Dies”, a little “The Spy Who Loved Me”, etc. Basically, take the best aspects of every version of 007 we’ve ever had and infuse it into this new version for the ultimate Bond film.

You get the old-fashioned, over-the-top, campy-style villain and premise while also being super relevant to the current times. We get our cake and eat it, too.
As over the top as Bond villains can be there are some similarities to real life figures.

Musk is pretty much real life Bond villain Hugo Drax from the movie Moonraker

Elliot Carver was Rupert Murdoch mixed with Robert Maxwell In Tomorrow Never Dies.

I want to see a black Bond too! Would be a nice change!

Screw the haters!
I just want the best actor for the role and if they happen to be black then that is fine.

One of these guys I think would be good

Aaron Pierre
Gary Carr
Clinton Liberty
Lucien Laviscount

Big fan of the Bond franchise, big fan of Denis but I'm not a big fan of this choice. Would have preferred for him to do something else and I also don't think the Bond franchise needs a superstar director.

Interesting choice for a director, but i dont know what direction they in general want to go...so im still not sure.
Will they go a bit more over the top or grounded? Hard to say.

But they move forward and that is great.
We are getting closer to a new James Bond movie...and that is cool either way.
Now we wait for who they choose as the new Bond and who is going to sing the title track...will be a fun time.

Casino Royale was so ahead of its time. If there's a type of Bond movie I could've guessed was coming, is that one. I doubt they're gonna do an "origin" story again, so it's gonna be interesting to see how they retool the idea for 2026/7.

Because that’s the Villeneuve brand. Compelling worlds, spectacular settings, potentially interesting characters, but all immersed in a shadowy visual soup, and nudged along the narrative with a frustrating, hair-pulling pace that’s close to glacial.
Beyond those two, the crucial characteristic that any new Villeneuve choice must embody as Bond will surely be humourlessness? Villeneuve doesn’t seem to do humour, irony or self-deprecating wit. His movies are serious, sombre and self-important to the core. This new 007 era, in short, will not be channelling the Roger Moore Bond experience. Think Daniel Craig’s Bond, but directed by Ingmar Bergman on a bad weekend.

I liked some of Villeneuve’s movies but it’s probably more due to scripts over direction. And if anybody said those movies like BR2049 were slow and boring I wouldn’t object other than to say it was true of the original Scott movie too.

I’d say Villeneuve needs to be quite unlike himself here to make a peppy movie but that vibe he already has is presumably why they hired him in the first place.

Was not expecting Villeneuve to actually sign up :wow:. He has to be one of the very few who can give film nerds confidence in this film after the Amazon acquisition. Looking forward to what he cooks up.

As for the theme song, we’ve had too way many sombre ballads now. Let’s get Charli xcx or Addison Rae to hyperpop this ***** up :o.

Some of those songs for the Craig movies were sleepy weepy crap. Enough already.

Lana Del Rey was born for the gig and should've gotten it over a decade ago. Maybe this could reinvigorate her creativity a bit, too.

I was a little surprised Sia didn't get contacted after she blew up in the mid-2010s.

Well apparently she said she would have put through her rejected Adele song Alive as a Bond song if she was asked and her fans say this song from Finding Dory gave them Bond vibes.

Denis?! No wonder this thread's been popping. That's a huge deal.

It'll be interesting to see who they get for the theme. When EON was calling the shots they really seemed to target the newest of the new artists for the Bond themes towards the end. Sam Smith and Billie Eilish were each hired a year after their debut albums came out. Adele had been around for a little bit longer but she really hit it big shortly before Skyfall with 21.

I think they're likely to go with a seasoned vet for the first new song out of the gate, similar to Tina Turner for Brosnan's first outing and Chris Cornell for Craig's.
