So I just found out Freddie Stroma is British. He is great in Peacemaker and can certainly do good action. Hmmmm….

Watching Icons Unearthed did have me feeling worse for Dalton than any of them. He just had a vibe folks weren’t ready for + legal/studio ****ery.
He got to make it with a cave woman he's fine. :o

I love Egerton but I would rather see him take over the Mission Impossible franchise if he wants to dabble back in spy territory again.

Egerton definitely doesn’t feel like the kind of pick Denis would make.

I might be in the minority but I'd much prefer for the next James Bond to be 'some guy' than a famous actor I've seen in 10 films already. That was one of my favorite things with the new Superman. And that's no shade on David Corenswet who has worked before with credits in TV and movies, but when they announced his casting my reaction was "they cast SOME GUY to be Superman?!". But it was such a pleasant surprise and I like having that unique face of Superman.

Most of these actors people want to see as James Bond are good actors but I hope they go for someone I don't already associate with a few other roles. Someone who has done quality work but outside the spotlight who can now be ready to step up and get 'their' role.

He seems like a solid choice. Off to a great start! Next up, casting I suppose.

My first Bond that will probably be younger than me

Given the different directions they can go with this and how much fun that First Light game looks, I’m hoping they lean into a younger James Bond just learning the ropes. I absolutely love the brutal, serious, gritty feel of the Craig era but I think now is a great time to take the character in a lighter and more fast-paced direction. I wouldn’t want to see a return to silly stuff like the where the Brosnan and Moore movies ultimately went but I think a series that leans into some influences like the Cruise/McQ Mission Impossible films could feel refreshing, only with an obviously much younger lead going on a globe-spanning thrill ride.

Considering that Denis Villeneuve is directing this, I think it's safe to assume this won't be the direction the film goes in.

Yeah probably. But he could surprise us.

Okay, but personally I wouldn't want him to! 😆

IMO if you're getting Steven Knight to write and Denis Villenueve to direct a Bond film, the ideal result is a very Ian Fleming-y Bond film in the vein of Fleming's books and previous Bond films like Dr. No, From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Living Daylights, License to Kill, Casino Royale and Skyfall.

Don't get me wrong, I think a lighter Bond film in the vein of the best Mission: Impossible films or Goldeneye would be a lot of fun too. But I've generally been more preferential to the original Fleming character and the films that hewed closer to that take of the character myself anyway and IMO Villeneuve's filmography feels like a perfect marriage with that take. I think Knight will inject levity and fun in the right moments, going off of his work in SAS: Rogue Heroes and Peaky Blinders, but I'd imagine the overall tone will lean towards the darker side of Bond stories.

I wonder who would be a good director for a fun Bond? I mean Vaughn is the predictable choice but too predictable

Brad Bird, considering The Incredibles felt as much a love letter to Bond movies as superheroes, but I’m still annoyed with him for supporting Lasseter, so idk. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, Villeneuve and Knight is a killer combination for a gritty, serious Bond, so I can’t help but be a little hyped here despite all my Amazon reservations.

Maybe Sicario and Blade Runner 2049 are good indicators of the type of action Villeneuve aims for. Nothing in his filmography screams James Bond but he is pretty open to different genres, so it's gonna be really interesting to see what he does.
