I can't believe how easily people fall for this "it's overheating, it must be faulty!!!11!". This console produces a lot more heat than the last one does, and as such, requires a more well ventilated position than the last, and the power supply probably shouldnt be snuggled underneath that snake pit of wires behind your entertainment center either. It's nothing to do with faulty manufacturing, it's just that people are idiots.

I saw them last week camping out, had no idea they were gonna smash the thing. I gave 'em two bucks, thought they were starving.

And the Best Buy guy in the vid today told me they didn't have Infected in for the PSP. Futureshop didn't either. Only place that has Infected is Wal-Mart.

TO BE HONEST, I'M WONDERING HOW THE PS3 WILL HANDLE SUCH A PROBLEM. UNLESS SONY JUST HASN'T SHOWN THEIR EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY, IT APPEARS THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE SELF CONTAINED....IN A VERY SMALL PACKAGE. IMO, MS WAS SMART TO MAKE THE PS EXTERNAL; IT WILL ALLOW FOR A MUCH EASIER FIX, IF THEY END UP BEING INSUFFICIENT, OR FAULTY......LIKE WITH THE XBOX POWER CORD. They left the power supply out to save room rather than heating concerns or concerns about a replacement, but yeah, it does reduce the heat. If ps3 doesnt do the same, it'll be running even hotter, though I'm sure the reports of it melting down will be drowned out by all the other reports we'll be getting. Heh, I built a 120mm PC case fan into the back of my entertainment unit a few years ago to do the same thing. My xbox ans ps2 both keep cool and pretty much dust free

One game developer said that they're constantly finding out new things about that 360. He also said that 2007 will be the year of total kickassness for the 360. I forget the dude's name, though.

so... why are people still making excuses for this? if you spend $400 on a system, you shouldn't have to take further measures to make sure it doesn't overheat... it simply shouldn't overheat. most people don't have fans built in to there console cabinets, so, are they just screwed or what? i can't be the only one who realizes this, can i?

Sony is probly gonna have the same problem with the PS3, but since they aren't rushing it out like MS i doubt it will be that serious. Maybe a few crashes here and there. The ps2 has some problems with not reading discs so no console escapes some bugs. Thats why you wait for the up-dated ones to comes out. Never get the first batch.

NO, YOU'RE JUST THE ONLY ONE (WELL, MAYBE BESIDES 'SPIDERFAN08') WHO'S DUMB ENOUGH TO THINK THAT SOUNDS LIKE LOGIC. THERE ARE NUMEROUS VARIABLES THAT CAN AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF ELECTRONICS:

• AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF THE ROOM IN WHICH THEY ARE KEPT (IF YOU MOM/WIFE/GRANDMA INSISTS ON KEEPING THE HOUSE AT 79 DEG. ALL YEAR LONG, EXPECT TO HAVE PROBLEMS)
• CARPET (LIKE I'VE ALREADY MENTIONED) IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST THING YOU CAN PUT YOUR CONSOLES OR OTHER EQUIPMENT ON. ASIDE FROM THE SUFFOCATION FACTOR, THE TINY FIBERS, DEBRIS (HAIR, DUST MITES, ETC) CAN CAUSE MAJOR PROBLEMS....ESPECIALLY OVERHEATING
• PROXIMITY TO ANOTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICE, SUCH AS YOUR T.V., STEREO, AMPLIFIER......ALL OF WHICH MIGHT BE IN USE CONCURRENTLY WITH YOUR CONSOLE. THE ADDITIONAL HEAT FROM ANY, OR ALL, OF THEM, CAN RENDER YOUR CONSOLE USELESS.

YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS MACHINE IS DOING. IT HAS NUMEROUS FUNCTIONS GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME, UNLIKE OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES YOU MIGHT OWN. THE SUM OF ALL THE PROCESSES, WHICH REQUIRE ENERGY, AND RELEASE ALOT OF HEAT AS A BY-PRODUCT, IS MUCH MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE YOU COULD OWN. EVEN A STANDARD PC REQUIRES PROPER VENTILATION, OR IT CAN OVERHEAT AND PROCESSES CAN SLOW DOWN OR COME TO A HALT. THE '360' AND 'PS3' WILL BE BREAKING NEW GROUND IN ALOT OF AREAS, SO THERE WILL BE SOME UNKNOWNS UNTIL AFTER THE RETAIL PROCESS BEGINS; THAT IS ALWAYS THE CASE. THE MAIN ISSUE HERE IS WHETHER OR NOT THIS IS A CONSISTENT DEFECT OR NOT, AND/OR IF IT'S RELATED TO THE ENGINEERING OF THE CONSOLE, OR IF IT'S JUST A MATTER OF THE USUAL LOW-PERCENTAGE PROBLEMS THAT USUALLY ARISE, COMBINED WITH CONSUMER MISUSE. I'm actually liking what I see of the 360 look wise and controller wise, but neither COD2 or KK have really impressed me, I'll wait for some cooler games to come out.
