We've all said this numerous times over numerous summers. Action movies often deliver just that. My question is, have you ever come out of a movie saying the opposite? Has there been an action movie that didn't deliver on the action front, but had a good story?

Batman Begins instantly springs to mind. The Greengrass Bourne films too.

I think the action sucked in BB....the story....aside from the whole Microemmeter crap, was fantastic I thought.

The winner?

Wanted. Wanted is awesome. The story? Not so much,.

I loved the Moisture Vapourator Thingamajig. Good blend of realism and comic bookery.

Godzilla 98, The action was great but the plot sucked.

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, The action was great but the story & plot was bland.

It always took me out. I mean...its kinda neat...but it just felt random. Oh well. Like I said, my only beef with the film....the action, didnt bother me, even though it sucks. The characters, and Bruce story were just too good.

Star Wars I-III, the duels beat the pants off the older films shame about everything else, everything (minus McGregor).

And I definitely agree on Spiderman 2, Spiderman was awesome but I never got Spiderman 2 despite the rave reviews & opinions, though the action scenes were great especially the Train scene.

Ghost Rider

Max Payne, awesome action shame it didn't do the game justice, not complete rubbish though.

Quantum of Solace, some really impressive action sequences especially the car chase shame about the faster than Michael Bay editing & a story lacking compared to Casino Royale.

What was so wrong with the action sequences in BB? Some of the individual fights were a a little hard to discern, but the big action sequences (the battle at Ra's temple, the Batmobile car chase, the monorail sequence) were all pretty stunning, IMO.

Star Wars Prequels (ROTS had a decent plot)
Terminator 3
Predator 2

Agreed. I actually think the action in BB is better than TDK's.

I agree with ya there, TDK didn't feel quite as impressive action wise. The Tumbler smashing through the wall while being chased (the whole chase really), jumping over the bride (gives me goosebumps), the cargo area scene, League of Shadows temple, etc much more impressive.

Transformers. Nice action, ****** story.

Transformers doesn't really need much of a story. How deep do people expect it to be? These are films based offf of TOYS fighting other ROBOTS. All that was back then was giant robots beating the crap out of eachother. That's exactly what we got. Sometimes you can leave your brain behind for movies. Bay does that. That's no problem. He just likes making pictures where you can just enjoy them nothing wrong with that.

But seriously, what did you expect out of it? Complexity, a deepness of plot and character? Think back to the show of the 80's or 90's. What was that about? Oh yes, giant robots beating the crap out of eachother.

True, but still. Nice action, ****** story. :o

Yeah, I think that was the point though. :woot:

something has been pissing me off for a long time. Since when has any Godzilla movie had a good story? I can't believe people expected anymore out of a movie where the drama in last 16 movies was scream and point up. This one had better special effects, better action, and a better explanation for how Godzilla came to be.

alright I'm done ranting

"The action was great, but the plot sucked!"
something that could be said about most of Bay's films :woot:

I'm surprised no one as mentioned x3 yet. Best action in the series, yet the crappiest story.

^Because thats not the question, he is asking for the OPPOSITE...an action movie with good story but crap action....so I don't know why people are mentioning the Star Wars prequels, Godzilla remake, etc.
