Maybe Alfred is evil in this version? That would be one hell of a twist, wouldn't it?

Alfred: "Tomato, cheese, cucumber, ham, farts, and some pulverized bats."

Batman (spits out food): "what the...?"

Alfred: "That's correct, sir. I farted on your sandwich. I have also contacted the GCPD and told them everything about your little night job. They'll be here any minute."

Batman: "you did what?"

Alfred: "Don't worry, sir. You won't be going alone, I have also told them about the crime I committed many years ago. The details of how I slaughtered your parents like the pigs they were!"

(Dramatic music)

He's usually been portrayed as the sterotypical kindly elderly English Butler type, who's almost a surrogate father figure to Bruce Wayne.

Michael Gough did a fantastic job in the Burton/Schumacher films, playing an Alfred who - just like he's been written in the comics - cared dearly for Bruce whilst never straying far too much from his Butler role.

But I think Michael Caine took it to an even higher level, showcasing an even warmer relationship between him and Bruce (frequently verbally jesting/joking with each other, not to mention the obvious love that Alfred had for Bruce). . . . . not too mention being a bit more hands-on in helping Bruce with his Batman duties also.

I guess all I want to see in the next Alfred portrayal is his key qualities - kindness, wisdom, a deep sense of dignity and an almost paternal attitude towards Bruce's well-being.

Agreed with all that.

I'm just hoping we see something akin to the Alfred in TDKReturns. Aging and feeling the effects of a world weary Batman drawn back into that world.
It was nice to see Caine be an Alfred who was at the end of his tether with Bruce. Not knowing how to deal with things.

I'd like to see Alfred like that again. Remaining with Bruce throughout, but as said, feeling a great strain.

Tim Curry as Alfred. Hmmm...he's always a bit hyperactive and weird.

I would probably laugh if he got the role.

James Cromwell might be a good choice if he can pull off the accent.

Ian McKellan would be the perfect Alfred imo, but I think he's busy.

I want an Alfred with a streak of toughness next time, but with an overall warmness to Bruce.
