The All Encompassing AQUAMAN Movie Thread - Part 2

Well, does Transformers still have that box office draw it used to have? Haven't seen..well, much past some of the first film and I heard that the recent one wasn't doing so well.

The last one did terrible compared to the usual 1 billion draw. It is clear people are tired of it.

I used to be crazy until Dark of the Moon and then it all died down.

Hmm that's a worry. Transformers may not be well liked but it's fan base is established and dedicated whereas both DC and Aquaman have a bad rep they're still dealing with, however undeserved now.

Fingers crossed

Paramount is banking on Justice League being terrible

Hm, I guess it'll depend on JL and the reviews Aquaman gets.

Kind of a ****** move by Paramount. I personally don't feel like watching the new Bumblebee movie (even though I do like Bumblebee, as a robot.) I liked the Transformers franchise up until halfway through 'Revenge of the Fallen' :oldrazz:

I do worry a bit about the overseas box office for Aquaman being affected since those Transformers movies seem to do well internationally. But 'Bumblebee' seems like a smaller-scale movie compared to the other Transformers movies.

I remember when B v S reception was going to affect the box office of Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, or how the big summer films will affect Wonder Woman box office. How did that work out?

I wouldn't be surprised if Aquaman gets pushed up a few weeks

I think they are banking on the BB film not costing as much as the previous Bay films and on a director that has some cred as a good storyteller. The BB film may also be much smaller in scope and scale than the TF films have been so far. I am right now of the mind that unless the first real look at AM is just dog **** or unless the audience hates Aquamomoa in JL that the BB film is not all that big a threat to AM. We will have a better handle to judge once we get a real trailer from both movies though, of course.

Eh, if one moves it will be the transformer movie. Wan is going all out on this, just feel it.

I don't get the whole thing of paying this much mind to release dates a full 15 months out. You never know what might shift in that amount of time.

What's with Paramount ? First, they scheduled their Transformers The Last Knight movie on same day as Wonder Woman, so WB moved WW to an earlier date in same month, now they have Bumblebee spin-off release at same day as Aquaman movie's release date.

To say nothing about their stubbornness and refusal to let Henry Cavill shave off his mustache for a few days of re-shoots of Justice League, which would have saved so much time and money spent on removing his mustache using CGI. Why don't they use CGI to render his mustache ?

Had WB forced Cavil to remove his mustache regardless (which they didn't do), citing his contact with WB, there was nothing Paramount could have done.

Probably a dick measuring contest. Paramount is just coming off as salty.

Well TF crapped the bed when Wonder Woman moved and Bumblebee will do the same when AQ is released. The US is over Transformers and even WW it seems that it is waning.

I think thanks to Thrones Momoa is gonna be a huge draw. WW did terribly here in Poland but most of the people I know are so psyched for Aquaman because of him

Suicide Squad had amazing marketing and when embargo lifted people still went to see if it's really that bad. WW had amazing reviews. The goodwill from WW won't mean much if JL is bad

Transformers seems to be a franchise with a shelf life. I don't think it's only about quality. It's just that some things aren't destined to go forever. Robots against other robots (not a whole lot of variety between the hero characters, and they even look similar to the villains) as the main characters is something that is hard to repeatedly succeed at IMO.

No way AM moves for BB, the tide has changed.

Before it was a billion dollar franchise bullying an origin movie that expected to make 500M+ to a different date, and now TF is making what, 570M and dying, international figure is 440M right now, more than half of that from China lol, WW is heading for 800M right now.

Say IF JL bombs, WW has already shown DCEU can make great solo films, and the next one is AM, with James Wan's name attached, and first underwater superhero film, add "the studio that brought you WW and TDK," versus a spinoff of a dying series, this looks more like WB putting BvS against Cap3, we might see a DC film holding their ground for a change, worst case scenario, AM has the holiday period to extend his legs, still not a bad result.

And if JL is a success, then that Avenger effect might cocktail its way to AM

Yeah I think TF could even fall below the $100m domestic mark with another film. Most people are done with it now.

I generally agree with this. I don't see any way Aquaman doesn't mop the floor with Bumblebee, TBH.

Is there an opening 2 weeks before or two weeks after? (i.e. nothing big opening those weeks) If so AQ should move and totally suck up BB's money.
