The All Encompassing AQUAMAN Movie Thread - Part 6

Um...who exactly was pissed off about ASIB? No one of any legitimacy in the states as the movie was hyped to hell. Maybe some message board people but they complain about everything.

In fact, no one in the States seemed to complain about any of the things you are talking about.

And FWIW the Meg made $142 million domestic ($500 ww) the Nun made $113 million domestic ($346 ww) and ASIB crushed its opening weekend and is going to make bank and win Oscars. No offense but I pray to God they do the exact same thing with AQ that they did with those because those are all huge based on their budgets.
No, people aren't hating on ASIB.
People are hyped about ASIB and many rooting for it. What I meant was when The Nun was released, they put 4 clips of ASIB teasers (they also uploaded those to their YouTube channel) in front of it, all 4 of them, at once. And people in social media / forums either annoyed / made fun of it or told others about negative reactions from their audience. The thing is, people are interested at first but turned annoyed after barrage of trailers. Though it ended well for ASIB.

Maybe I'm waay too paranoid, but ASIB has constant good buzz and DCU is not. Because any small opening for bad words about DCU quickly turns asinine (and usually clickbait articles and videos would follow). And December slot is a blood bath even after Alita moved away. I'm just worried, that's all.
Surely Aquaman won't be a flop, but I want it to be as successful as possible after JL and tired of people talked doom and gloom for almost a year.

But hey, what do I know? WB is doing great with their movies simultaneously, The Meg, CRA, The Nun, ASIB. And Aquaman is the bigger one, so I'm sure WB will handle it carefully.

This not the time to do "experimental marketing".

Yes, exactly!

Look I love the video and yey for showing us somerhing new but honestly how desperate is this? :funny: We have poster in this thread who appears to have seen the film saying they are showing all of their cards. Like...what is up with that marketing dept.? "Shall we cut new Aquaman trailer?" "Nah, let's just show the "exclusive" footage with his classic costume which the director and cast were pretending isn't in the movie for months!" "Wooo! Cocaine!"

I swear the day The Nun opened there were more reactions to 'annoying 4 trailers' than for The Nun

Putting this extended video in cinemas will do more harm than good, I guarantee it.

I'm so confused at what we're mad about.
Nah, no one's mad actually. :funny:
I apologize if I seemed so.
The extended vid is great, I'm happy, many people appeared happy or at least liked it.
I'm just a worrier.

Maybe that's why WB didn't label it as a trailer.
But actually I thought that this vid won't get reactions that bad, because this vid is a crowd pleaser and although long, this is one entity, not separate ones like ASIB.

The extended trailer was not rated by any accreditation site. A trailer has to be rated in order for it to get attached in front of other movies.
Really? Thank you for letting me know.
I heard that the first trailer is still being played in front of Venom. Maybe the new actual trailer will be for later, either in front of Fantastic Beasts or even closer to the release date.

Did you poll everyone in the States? lol you honestly think if they shove 5 minutes of the movie in front of screenings people won't be annoyed? You really think putting 4 separate trailers for one movie is not too much?

Yeah I know what those movies made. Do you know what Aquaman is going up against in box office? Because your post suggests you don't.

I'm saying that their marketing strategy regarding the trailers is bizarre lately but seeing how you apparently polled everyone in the States....

I didnt poll anyone. I can only tell you how things appeared based on what I see and hear. The only things anyone was saying about ASIB is that the trailers look good and it was poised to do great. No one seemed to be complaining much about the Meg either talking about how they thought the trailers were hilarious and sold them on the ridiculous premise. I had zero interest in the Nun so I guess people might have thought the advertising was bizarre.

I dont get why you are being so aggressive and attacking over this. I wasnt insulting to you, I didnt mock you and in fact I am usually quite complementary to you. (go back to your pms when you got suspended if you forgot) I know what AQ is going up against and I have zero worry about how they are dealing with it. They arent going to put up a 5 minute trailer so I am not that worried. They will probably cut a few trailers out of what they showed.

Again I dont know why you are getting so aggressive but I would kindly ask you to stop. We are on the same side on most things just because I happen to disagree with you on this doesnt mean you have to be condescending and rude.

lol who is getting aggressive? Or condescending? Or rude? I wrote my opinion about advertising and you chose to quote me with claims that no one in whole country thought this or that. Also lighten up I was joking I do realize you didn't conduct polls :lmao:

Thanks for the information, I didnt know that about the 4 clips. Interesting choice to do it before that film. As I guessed it was social media/message board people annoyed which is to be expected. Honestly they get annoyed about everything ;)

I dont think you are paranoid, the DCEU has stumbled way more often than not and I say that as someone who likes all the films. Since we have no way of knowing how these things will go we have to look at the patterns and hope they hold. For the most part the clickbaiters have left this film alone. There have been attempts to start fires ("I hear it is a mess" style crap) but they pretty much die on the vine quickly unlike with the films that crashed and burned. That lessens my worry because even WW at this point had way more clickbait attacks than Aquaman. My guess is this property just doesnt garner the interest for the flamers to try and cause problems. Plus when it isnt something that needs to be huge like BvS bad press can have less impact anyways. Suicide Squad made bank and Venom just had a massive weekend and both of them were mired with critical and clickbait hate. Hopefully Aquaman doesnt have to worry about that.

We will see, if the film is good it is going to make its money no matter how full December is. Honestly I think WB is more concerned about the reaction to the film than the money they have enough DC properties that made money but most people didnt like ;)

I'm super-excited to see more of Black Manta.

Literally wrote about those 4 ASIB teasers in the post you quoted. Perhaps you didn't notice and that's why you mistook my point.

My point being WB is doing weird marketing stuff lately.

It will be interesting to see if they'll explain the significant costume change for Mera.

If I read the tone of your post wrong then I apologize but it seemed more aggressive than your usual fare. My whole point originally was that no one seemed to be discussing the ASIB trailer deal or the marketing for any of the other films you mentioned, all of which did quite well. It was nothing but an observation which is why I added in the how the films did which kinda showed even if the marketing was bizarre or offputting it still worked.

Personally I think if they cut one 2.5 minute trailer out of the 5 minute video that is more than enough the rest of the way. I think WB needs to treat AQ different than they do their other DC properties for now especially in light of the what that is December. Then again I am not as worried about what it is up against as some other people are. YMMV

And I honestly didnt understand what you said. For some reason the second description helped me visualize it better. (might have been the 36 hours of work in the last 50 hours) Also, honestly, I had never heard about it AT ALL until I read about it in this thread. Never popped up on my radar any of the times I read about or heard about ASIB.

It's SUPERHEROHYPE.....they are mad at everything.

I am mad you arent mad!

(I am actually not mad about anything...but I can be if it helps!)

You don't need to apologize.

It was odd to me how one can dispute putting 4 clips of something is not annoying. Man, by the third time people were GROANING at the sight of Cooper :lmao: And that they did well ultimately doesn't mean that the marketing didn't raise eyebrows, as you read in my and Luce's posts. I am very skeptical and I think not moving the release date was a very risky move and frankly I am still not wowed by that marketing and I should be easily wowed.

It's SUPERHEROHYPE.....they are mad at everything.

Or we are just having a conversation and some people here are always fishing for drama.

Yeah you may wanna grab some sleep :D

The day the movie was released most posts on twitter and reddit discussing The Nun were actually about those trailers. And about how awful The Nun was, but mostly the trailers. I think another studio did that with El Royale too....if this is becoming a trend than something is very wrong here :P

I am mad you arent mad!

I am mad that you think I'm not mad....it's quite maddening if you think about it.

They can't put the extended video in theaters because trailers have a limited runtime of 2m30s. They would have to cut a new trailer

I think Arthur and Mera look great in JL and this. The regal armor looked cool on them in JL. AQ has them looking more comic booky which looks good too.

I'm starting to worry about this movie's BO though, I think its gonna be awesome and people will like it but that release week is insane! Somebody's gonna have to move between now and then.
