Finally
AMPAS can choke
AMPAS can choke
Eh...
I think the issue here is similar to the issue the Black Panther sequel will have. People fell in love with the world presented, but in a sequel audiences can often want something different rather than a rehash... Except of course when the audience rejects the sequel because it was too different. At least with BP they laid the seeds for taking the story out of Wakanda at the end. Thing is... Wakanda was a huge part of why people enjoyed the first film so you can't really cut that out. At the same time what do you do? Another struggle to keep control of the throne? AM2 will have something like that as well. Do you take Arthur out of Atlantis? But Atlantis is such a huge selling point of the first movie. But if Atlantis is again the big backdrop of the second film well... Do we recycle the same type of story? What of the villains that this movie left alive? At least BP had definitive endings to its antagonists. Will they just bring back Orm and Manta for round 2?
Yeah... I know with this kind of setting an character you could go many ways but fitting so much of the mythos (Not that I'm complaining about that... It was great to see all this stuff realized so well that I had enjoyed as a kid, and it was a long time coming as I was born in 1976.) into the movie meant that the best material to pull from with the character, especially for the four quadrant they went with, has kinda already been covered. You can't really do the death of Arthur jr. and Mera and Aquaman's separation with the "MCU" approach.
More kitchen sinks to be thrown around.Which makes me wary of the sequel. They threw the kitchen sink into this one and... Where to next?

Topo needs to be the focus of the next one.More kitchen sinks to be thrown around.
Actually many things unexplored. Arthur is still not used with Atlantean culture too. How to act like a king.
Little things to play with, like how things works underwater? Their tech? Atlantean bathroom and restroom, how to get drunk underwater? That glimpse at the Ring of Fire fight showed us that they knew what being drunk is.
More Topo and creatures etc.
Aquaman 2 almost writes itself. Arthur learning to be a king, dealing with not only the burdens but the relevant politics, and facilitating the evolution of Atlantean/human relations.
With a subplot of Black Manta operating as a full on terrorist/supervillain.
Yes, we saw Atlantis, but in many ways, we've barely even beneath the surface of Atlantis. We saw the capital city from the outside, and a throne room, and an arena, and some great "scenery".
We haven't seen Arthur interact with the people he governs, visit the various trides, etc. Atlantis can feel more lived-in. We haven't seen the types of conflicts inherent in an insular society reaching out to the broader world. There are multiple other underwater kingdoms and other underwater dimensions to explore if they so choose.
There are all kinds of story possibilities. You could even bring Themyscira and their history with Atlantis into proceedings.
Johns laid some pretty cinematic groundwork in his run on Aquaman. It's still the bedrock of the Aquaman book, and much of it arguably has been dating back to the Peter David days.
Hand gets eaten by pirhannas. Instant billion.

The whole ocean is their bathroom and they probably don't get drunk.More kitchen sinks to be thrown around.

Nah, won't get banned. Everything turn red, we can't see sheet. That kinda thing is self-censored.Too gruesome, banned in China, 700M
=P
Topo needs a spin off mate, at least a streaming show
Yeah. You bath and scrub yourself with a living sponge while a guy next to you is 'warming up his surrounding in natural way'. You can't fart in public too.The whole ocean is their bathroom and they probably don't get drunk.

Earlier this morning, we covered some interesting details divulged by Neil Daly on the Fire and Water Podcast about Justice League. If those got you fired up, then wait until you hear what he had to say about Aquaman…
As a reminder, Daly is an independent market research analyst who works on the test screening side of things. So he gets to see multiple cuts of these movies, and he also is asked to analyze the data that comes back via polling of the audiences at these tests. So he gets to see how a film evolves, how plans change, and how audience feedback directly impacts the final cut of a film.
During his time working on Aquaman, Daly came away with some interesting insights into James Wan’s filmmaking process. Here are some of the notable bits he shared:
- He claims Wan sought Zack Snyder’s approval, showing him storyboards and early cuts of the film- and he did so against the studio’s wishes. (Snyder approved)
- The initial version clocked in at about three hours, and was said to be seen as too long and convoluted
- When making cuts, Wan wanted to trim a bunch of Black Manta’s stuff, as he mainly wanted to set him up as a villain for the sequel, but Geoff Johns told him to keep it and find elsewhere to cut
- Some of the test feedback for Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry was that he needed to be built up more, and to have more of that dry “Iron Man wit.” (This may explain his multitude of one-liners in the final film)
- The “Wonder Woman Nixes Aquaman Dating Rumor” headline easter egg in the mid-credit scene is said to be a holdover from the plan to make a Flashpoint movie
- The final cut of Aquaman is close to Wan’s vision, but in many ways because of his involvement as a writer and executive producer, Geoff Johns’ creative fingerprints are all over it
Just as an off hand guess , I would say Jason Momoa cares as he continues to be very grateful of what Zack Snyder has done for his career.Seriously...who cares? (not directed at you B!)

Currently reading that actually, and they could incorporate some cool story elements from it. I don't think the whole Arthur/Dolphin/Mera love triangle/thing will really work here though.I certainly wouldn't be mad if they threw in some of David's Atlantis Chronicles material.
What would you like to see from that run incorporated into film?Wan showed Snyder the movie when it CGI effects were not polished, Wan himself told this to Steven Weintraub (Frosty) in one of the Interviews he gave before Aquaman was released. But the movie (Aquaman) is completely a James Wan movie, I find it odd that people are looking for ways to give credit to Zack Snyder or Geoff Johns for this, when it is 100% James Wan movie, this reminds me of BS rumors about how Zack Snyder was responsible for the third act of Wonder Woman, he was not whatever strengths and weaknesses exist, they are on Patty Jenkins.
Behind the Scenes Info on AQUAMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE via Insider – BATMAN ON FILM
not sure why the outrageous reaction to Snyder
but this is quite explosive information
if true, Wan communicated with Snyder for consultation during post production, when Snyder's already offed by WB
and there was a tug of war between Wan and Johns (who was offed after JL)
and AM was more Johns vision than Wan (still close to Wan's vision)
AND there's a 3 hour cut, hahaha
