The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

I'm guessing that Bruce has been doing a 'Howard Hughes' for a few years when we first meet him. The thing that jarred with me though is that there seem to be nicotine stains on his fingers when we see his hand touching the photograph. No matter how he retreated from public life I just don't see Batman smoking.

I dont think that is his hand...I have no idea who it might be (probably one of the Ezras) but I dont think that is Keaton. Just a feeling.

For our friend who thinks this film is a miscarriage of *ahem* Justice to The Flash:

edit: apparently this person saw it last night at a special screening where Muschietti did a Q&A.

I sometimes think back to this whenever these reactions come out. Early Buzz: First Screening Of 'Green Lantern' Earns Positive Praise - /Film
There are a couple dozen movies since then that fit this as well, BUT… it does seem notable how much more pronounced James Gunn’s praise has been for this and (to a lesser degree) Blue Beetle vs. Shazam and Aquaman. Then there’s the internal buzz and these reactions… hopefully we’ve really got something here.

We know how the discourse around early reactions goes, especially from people who are ready to dislike the film lol

Negative? Believe em and take them as gospel. Positive? Don't believe em. They're lying.

Thought the trailer was really good with some amazing shots.

Skeptical about the reactions as always but it's good to see nonetheless.

Happy that Germain Lussier and Peri Nemiroff liked it, I think they're solid reviewers.

This should do well at the boX office, just like the first movie for Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

But I'm still skeptic that they'd keep the cast for DCU regardless how the film does.

Some bad CGI aside, the movie looks really good. Keaton looks great, as does Calle, Shannon, and even Affleck. Shame that everyone’s hard work had to be tainted by Miller.

I listened to a few reactors on YouTube this morning. They all said it was a great movie but they appeared to be more relieved that the film was good. They all praised Ezra but you could see they didn’t feel comfortable about it. Supposedly he plays an 18 year old version of himself and they said it was convincing. It’s good to hear Keaton and Cali were good. This film is going to make or break by the general audiences reaction to Ezra’s off screen mess.

it seems that a lot of people are ready to forgive Miller even though Tokata's parents still have no idea where or in what state their daughter is.

Well... I hate to be convinced by industry folks but I guess I'll have to go see it!
Superhero fatigue is definitely a thing for me so it's gonna have to be really good.

I’m sure a lot of people will think this especially coming a year and a half after NWH. If Flash had stuck with its release date of Summer 2022 it probably would’ve helped people to think it was just a coincidence.
OTOH… Back in summer of 2022, the scrutiny of Miller’s personal controversies was pretty intense. Since then, Miller has kept a low profile and is (allegedly) receiving psychiatric care. So the movie has benefited — at least to some degree — by the delayed release. (This assumes, of course, that Miller doesn’t make new headlines between now and June 16. :word:)

Yeah that’s true. Probably better to put some distance between those events and the film.

It’s a thing for me too. I haven’t been this excited for a superhero film in years.

I just think it’s sad that we’re starting to feel this way when imo the genre has barely reached its full potential. Studios releasing films in the same vein as Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight on a yearly basis is what I want to see, but films of that caliber are still few and far between.

How is no one talking about the Flash suit on the right being a repurposed Bat suit?? That's freaking awesome!

I'm honestly starting to tire of them as well, thats why it takes big event films like this to catch my interest.

They really need to break away from the "hero vs generic villain trying to take over the world" formula. We've seen that already a million times, it gets tiring after a while. Even Marvel knew they couldn't keep doing the same "the villain is like the hero but evil". Winter Soldier is a good early example of how to keep things fresh and exciting but still having heroes vs villains.
Even something like No Way Home managed to do something slightly different ("we just have to cure these guys").
There are ways to break the formula, but when things like Shazam 2 are released, is like they take 15 steps back.
