The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

On the subject of The Flash…
Since the embargo going to be broken tomorrow. In addition to this thread you can also discuss the reviews here:

Rotten Tomatoes Thread

I’m predicting a an RT score between the 60-70% range.

Reactions are starting to come in folks! Strap in! Have a feeling we’re gonna be seeing lots of EXTREME reactions on both sides.
I already have my popcorn ready:

That was always on the cards. The usual reviews/ratings shenanigans on IMDb will be interesting...

I'm so glad I already saw it ;)

There’s no chance it’ll get as good reviews as the other superhero movie that deals with the multiverse like Across The Spider-Verse that came out last week, I suspect it’ll get better reviews than both Fury Of The Gods and Black Adam.

I’m expecting a fresh tomato though, theres several people that i trust who’ve seen it (including my man @dhandler01 ) who have said the movie is rock solid and I believe Muschietti made a good crowd pleasing movie. But I suspect that Ezra’s interpretation of Barry is still going to be contentious to same and may make or break the film despite how good all the other elements are.

I think a lot of the praise will be regulated to Keaton and Calle, even with the inevitable bad reviews and criticisms will be of course be focused on the dodgy CG, villain, and the ending.

A new clip from the film is available, in which Barry and his Bruce Wayne chat. And frankly, I find Ben Affleck very good there.
It's only a few lines, but to me, he really dissapear behind the character which is something I haven't felt since BvS. The only difference is that this time, he's playing a more "classic" version, and it becomes really obvious that this is what he should always have been, that this is the Bruce Wayne that would have suited him best.

Anyway, if he hasn't had much luck with this role, I'm happy if he at least gets the "graceful exit" he was looking for here.

You know, I'm excited for this while not expecting anything close to the greatest comic book film ever. But I feel like I can't even talk about it in certain threads without being painted as someone who supports Ezras actions, even if some posters aren't saying it outright. I just want a good movie, even though I think the bad CGI is gonna be the worst part of the movie. Andi Muschietti isn't and evil person for directing this and neither is Keaton for starring in it. I swear, I sometimes think there's some clique mentality whether it's in regards to even being remotely curious about this movie or even with other stuff.

I'm also very excited for the movie, but the discourse around this film has just been annoying and exhausting, as is the case with most film discourse lately.

Looking forward to seeing how all the anti-Ezra Miller folks wind up reacting to all future Kang-related projects in the MCU...

This is something I've noticed isn't talked about nearly as much. The same people dogging on this film have said very little about the Johnathan Majors stuff.

It's just the usual tribalism of fandom. Latching onto anything that they can use to drag this film they haven't yet seen. Ezra Miller, dodgy CGI (which has been a huge problem for the MCU), too much fan service/nostalgia (another thing the MCU shoves down our throats), etc.

Ben Affleck looks much more relaxed and comfortable, even perhaps more confident, in that small clip.

I watched the kitchen scene... Yeah, I'm digging it. Good vibe from Keaton. In spite of that bloody wig/beard combo. The main Barry seems good, alt-Barry could be good or get annoying in a whole movie... Jury's out. But my hype for this is definitely bubbling away.

Since I dont go in any thread that isn't about a film I like I avoid all of that...I can say in the Real World no one has said a thing to me about Ezra when I bring up the film. It is only genre fans who have an axe to grind. Then again if anyone did I would just say "so you dont listen to Michael Jackson then?" ;)

Its ok to like a film (or any art) but hate the person who made it. The loss of nuance in basic discourse is distressing.

As for the Tomatoes I never get too worried about that but it would not shock me if the movie does better than expected with critics, especially ones that dislike Zack Snyder. I bet we hear more than once something to the effect of "the true tragedy is that this is the DCEU everyone wanted". Same characters only with real depth (not weird Snyder tacked on pathos) and a lot of heart. I said before it is closer to a Spielberg type film or Zemekis than anything else and I think a lot of critics will latch onto it. (like a lot of the celebrities who saw it did) I also think there are some in the blogger/vlogger sphere that will ignore whether they liked the film and totally focus on Ezra. (does Jezebel do reviews because they would be my first pick to do so)

And Affleck is quite good. It makes me sad because it proves what I have said since the day he was cast, he could have been really, really good. This makes BvS (a film I have defended endlessly and still enjoy) look like such a wasted opportunity. It makes any version of Justice League look just stupid.

Main Barry flat out tells Alt-Barry how annoying he is a couple times so the audience can laugh and realize it is part of the character to be like that. It helps! ;)

I have absolutely zero problem separating art from artist, in any field. And there's no way that Miller is going to stop me from a) seeing Keaton's return, b) hoping the film is fantastic, and c) hoping the whole thing is a massive hit.

Well, I will say as someone whose visited the Marvel threads here , Majors has been dogged quite a bit , including by myself.

That said, I have seen more support of Majors in relation to his accusations and whether he should continue on, than with Ezra their accusations and whether they should stay on.

So in that sense , there is a double standard.

Then again, I've seen people complain , online , that Majors isn't being given the benefit of the doubt, and that Ezra is getting a pass.

Neither of these people are being seen in the best light as of late.
It's just that Ezra is in the forefront now, while Major's is left alone until the next court appearance.

Yeah, I haven't liked Miller's version of Barry in any of the films, but I'm still hyped for the story/cameos/Keaton. I get why people want to boycott this because of Ezra, but I always think he is just one part of the movie, so many more actors & crew members it takes to make this happen. Don't really want to boycott something I want to see because of one person. Now, I wish WB wouldn't beat around the bush with Ezra, act like he may appear in another Flash movie. I think if you move on from Cavill/Gadot/Momoa in their roles, you gotta move on from Ezra too.

???????????? What even is this point? Majors has been regularly sh*t on by pretty much the exact same people since those allegations came out. He trended on Twitter several times because of it and was directly compared to Miller. And it's very unlikely he's gonna continue as Kang seeing how even his agents and publicists dropped him and he's been scrapped from Loki Season 2 marketing. What an absolute fake "double standards" point to make. It's pretty fair to say both actors are equally hated right now, and if anything, Majors has faced more consequences up to this point.

If people are talking more about Miller right now it's because they're the one with a movie coming out the next week. By the time Loki Season 2 comes out, Majors is the one that'll have all the discourse of hatred around him.

That was my point as well as someone whose discussed and debated the issue on the Marvel threads. Lol.
