The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

NWH was absolutely a gimmicky cash grab and they grabbed a ton of my cash. Not just in movie tickets but in merchandise as well and you know what? Its the cash grabbing is done well who cares. I dont mind shelling out the $$$ for stuff that i enjoy.
This!

Sure, but there's a way to do them that doesn't feel totally hollow.

Not that I have seen. It is just about how much the audience is willing to ignore it.

I am not even saying it is a bad thing...but most of what is considered "deep storytelling" in the cbm genre is just paint by numbers plots with the pastiche of pathos and any real depth. If the stories didn't have superheroes in them they would get a lot of flack for the way they do it. It isn't as bad as say The Fast and Furious franchise but it isn't that much better either. (there are examples of deeper films but they are very few and far between)

That is why you are starting to see people not as enthused about these films. There isn't enough there there to warrant paying money to watch. Its the same story over and over just with different people saying the lines. Its just generic and (to use your word) hollow. So it comes down to eye of the beholder and now there seems to be a darwinism to it that was lacking for about a decade.

DOFP is probably my favourite Marvel film. If The Flash equals that, I'll be happy. I think it will.
I hadn’t really thought about it, but DOFP is the highest Marvel film in my personal comic book movie ranking. I guess it’s my favorite Marvel movie as well. I certainly hope this is more in line with a film like that.

The more footage I see I feel like the two Batmen and Supergirl are not as much of a problem as the other Barry. The alternate version of Barry just rubs me the wrong way. All the weirdness with him and the villain being him/the evil Barry instead of Reverse Flash. It just deviates from the comics too much. Oh and him instead of Grant Gustin. Deviating from the comics wouldn’t be as much of an issue if there had previously been more Flash on the big screen, or if it wasn’t Ezra Miller we were getting an extra dose of.

Why are people so hung up on Grant Gustin not playing Flash on the big screen? That was never going to happen. This is a DCEU film, it was always going to be Ezra’s Flash.

What if Batman 89 was all about Batman going to Metropolis. Or if the first Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi was about Spidey going to Asgard. Wouldn’t ppl think that would be weird? That’s what this is like and ppl don’t care.

As Pfeiffer-Pfan said...

WB are probably thanking their lucky stars this movie features Keaton and Affleck. No way this movie would have made a dent in the box office if it was The Flash vs The Rogues.

Look I get it, on paper having the very first Flash movie be this big multiverse film heavily co-starring Batman and Supergirl seems like a big mess. And yet…this works. And i think the reason why this works is because even though its called The Flash, its really a DC event film—a Justice League film — with Flash as its central protagonist.

And the thing is, as opposed to Batman 89 or Spiderman 2002…this Flash has already been introduced to the audience. Yea we’d all like to forget Justice Legaue 2017 ever happened but it did and Ezra’s Barry got a formal introduction in that movie to where now they can pick up that ball and thrust him into a crazy adventure.

And yes, lets be honest, if this were just a straightforward Flash vs Captain Cold movie or something, it would probably go the way of Shazam or Antman. We’re in a different age of cbms now where you REALLY gotta bring a goos hook to the table otherwisd people are not gonna be interested.

What if you posted something that wasn't a variation of the same thing you have posted 25 times just to sound negative and ruin everyone else's fun? Wouldn't people find it weird that you stopped posting non-sequitors and actually contributed to the conversation? That's what everyone else is doing and you don't seem to care.

If it’s a good movie then what does it really matter what city it’s set in or which villain the hero is up against? I think if the spirit of the IP is there, then that should be enough personally.

Look, I’ve got zero love or hype for this movie, so negative posts don’t bother me, but WE GET IT. This isn’t the Flash movie you wanted. Point made. Move on. Now you need to find a new song to sing or get off the stage because you zoomed past Trolling Territory like 5 exits back.

Has everyone decided what format they’re checking this out in? I’m going to find an IMAX that has dual laser projection and check it out over there.

new batwing looks cool. flash doing a tornado looks cool.

i'm just gonna enjoy this as a what-if / elseworld's type of justice league film, where the flash happens to be the central character of it all.

ngl, the action in this looks like it's going to be better than any of the other dc films we've had as of late.

Look at the bright side folks. When they do eventually reboot Flash's franchise, Warner Bros will have the luxury of using most of his supporting cast and central rogues without them having been tainted from the DCEU portrayal.

I just realized something...they've literally shown no footage of Kiersey Clemons. She's in this movie right? This poor girl got the short stick in both JL and this movie :funny:

Had a nightmare last night that Keaton was cut out of the film. A movie invading my dreams is usually an indication for how hyped I am.
