The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

Fan talk (and I know I sound like a broken record):
Even if the poster is imperfect, the look of Keaton, the simplicity of his costume and his batmobile (which entrusts to genius), all of this remains visually unbeatable for me. We've had some great interpretations since the Burton movies, accentuing one aspect or the other of the character's long history. But every time I see those, it just feels like "pure" Batman to me.
Now having the (unreal) chance to see some new material only reinforces their effectiveness in my eyes. Truly timeless designs.

It’s insane to me that this is the first live action Batwing since 1995 to have a bat motif. It’s long overdue.

Yeah, the new Batwing is so, so cool.
I miss that kind of iconicity...

Erf, I didn't wanted to see that Flash movie. It just sums up so much I always criticize about modern blockbusters.
But as I predicted, just throw some Keaton footage at me and here I am. Starting to feel the hype more and more...
So weak.

I havent seen the movie yet and I already want more Keaton. To think, somewhere in the Warner Bros vaults is an entirely shot film with Keaton suited up again that we'll never see...

There hasn’t been a great closeup of it so far, but I like whatever design is on Supergirls cape.

We can just never have it all when it come to Keaton, can we?

Always feels like unfinished business.

First, it was Batman 3 and now it's a fully shot movie lying in a vault.

It seems pretty certain we'll never know for sure how good it was or it wasn't, but it's certainly frustrating.

i'm not expecting some masterpiece.
it was a movie designed for streaming, so it would've probably not been up to cinematic quality.

but i like the directors' work in ms. marvel so i was expecting at least a fun film.

but the studio should let the audience decide if it was a good film or not.

Personally I don't have a problem with a studio not releasing a film if they genuinely think it's that bad. But with this one you keep hearing rumblings that something else was at play.

It was also about money...the money Killar and AT&T burned like The Joker in The Dark Knight.

It's interesting that Batgirl's IMDb page is still up.

Batgirl - IMDb

I thought it might have disappeared.

One of the more interesting theories I've seen for Batgirl's cancellation is that it was to give people a newer DC 'scandal' to fixate on as part of the damage control for Ezra Miller and The Flash (which Warner's obviously have far more money tied up in).

Yeah, I feel two types of ways about the Batgirl film. On one hand, if it was THAT bad, I guess it’s good it isn’t being released. DC films already have such a bad rep as it is.
On the other hand; I feel so bad for the directors and the cast, especially Leslie Grace. Whether good or bad, that role would have opened so many doors for her and would have made her quite well known, and that has been taken away. Maybe it wasn’t good, but when has that ever stopped a studio from releasing a film? (WB/DC released Black Adam, didn’t they? I can’t imagine they saw that and thought ‘wow this is a very strong film that we believe in.’ No way. And I can’t imagine Batgirl was much worse.)
There has to be another reason for the cancellation. HAS to be.

Do we think there is any chance of the film being ‘released’ in the future?

Unless they decide to do another Batgirl but in Gunn and Safran's new DCU universe, which I wouldn't be surprised if they go that way but what happens if this Flash film becomes a massive hit? Then what does that mean for James Gunn and his vision for the DCU? Does Ezra stay on as Barry in the DCU?

This would be an amazing title for a BATMAN continuation project with Michael Keaton:

I AM BATMAN
Starring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer, TBA
Produced by Tim Burton
Directed by Denis Villeneuve

The stuff that dreams are made of...

My understanding is that they'd have to repay all the money that they recouped by writing the movie off. Not sure they would do that, unless they thought that the hype (and revenue!) generated by the movie's controversial cancellation would more than make up for that. Plus there'd be the expense of finishing it (I don't think all the FX work was done).

Does Ezra stay on as Barry in the DCU?
I really can't see that happening. Not because of all that's happened so far. I think it's more the possibility that Miller could go off the rails again. They've probably weathered this storm, but I can't see them wanting to risk another (possibly worse).

No Ezra is done. My guess is it is dealt with in film.

And highly highly unlikely they Batgirl see the light of day. They wrote the film off for the tax break they would have to pay the penalty to do that...which makes little sense since it likely won't make money.

And comparing it to Black Adam is ridiculous. For as bad as Black Adam (so bad) it was an actual release. It brought in revenue. (Not profit but money anyways) Batgirl was a streaming film it was not ever going to bring in a dime. The tax write-off was going to make them more money than a streaming film was. The previous regime was setting money on fire.

I don’t think it’s that ridiculous. Batgirl could have probably brought more people onto the streaming service, or they could have possibly decided to do a limited theatrical release after The Flash. Let’s say it was still being released and The Flash was still scheduled for a June 16,2023 release. It would be released a few months-a year from now. With how quickly things have changed since the pandemic, I really doubt it would have stayed as a direct to streaming film. Are they even still doing those?
I honestly think they would have done away with it going on the streaming service. The excuse they made of it not being ‘film quality’ enough frankly sounds like a BS excuse to soften the blow of the cancellation. I’m sure it looked just fine and would have worked perfectly well as a theatrical release. I doubt it would have been a cheap, hour long, made for tv film. Especially with the likes of Keaton, Simmons, and Fraser being in it. Everything they’ve said just feels like an excuse, in my opinion.

as for the possibility of it being released, I was more so thinking of it getting leaked haha. No way they will officially release it.

I'm shame this movie hasn't grace the cover of any movie magazines...

Also, I noticed this little tidbit:

Writers Strike Movie Production Impact:

Again, if the studios have the goods, and are ready to go, they’re rolling cameras. Among those set for a June start are Marvel’s Thunderbolts (release date: July 26, 2024), Paramount’s untitled Gladiator sequel in the Europe (November 22, 2024), along with several undated pics including Warner Bros’ Beetlejuice in the UK on June 9, Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2 on June 19, and New Line’s Mortal Kombat 2.

I'm sure WB can work the schedule out, but they NEED Keaton out there pushing this movie.

Miller's unfortunately a skeezy predator but the film looks really good, the scale looks epic. Sasha Calle seems to be bringing something different with the new Supergirl and the Batporn on display is glorious! I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the Batwing finally seeing some real action!

I agree with every single word of this! Heck, I agree with every single letter! :funny:
