The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

I hope the overall reaction/ box office doesn't affect the future of Flash on the big screen. The Flash is too much of a great character with an awesome rouges gallery to go to waste.

I wouldn't call myself a massive fan of the character but I do like him. I certainly wouldn't want a post-GL2011 type hiatus.

The problem with Flash is his rogues gallery is pretty silly with the exception of Reverse Flash or Grodd. But you can’t do Flashpoint again and Grodd can be seen as silly if not done right.

THIS is The Flash I grew up with... hopefully Gunn/Safran go all in on Wally West. He'll be a supporting character, but better than nothing.

Rosenbaum voiced Wally wonderfully. I do think they've tried to make Barry more similar to Wally over the years, but yeah, I love JLU Wally too.

With a full reboot, it seems like they would use the more iconic names under the cowls/masks, but who knows?

I didn't even know Barry Allen existed as a kid. The JL/JLU show left its mark on my generation. John Stewart is the first character I think of when someone says Green Lantern, which I know is crazy to GL fans.

I grew up with JLU as well. So I get where you're coming from. It may be a good idea to use Wally/Stewart. All of us who grew up with the JLU are in our late 20s-30s and the ones who have kids have probably let them watch JLU. Might bring in a bigger audience. Idk, I hope DC figures it out honestly.

Barry Allen is who I always think of as The Flash, same with Hal Jordan as Green Lantern.

I dunno, I just think there's overcomplaining, and some of what I've seen on the clickbaity sites...they're posting like, pictures of what appears to be Ezra Miller...Ezra Millering as their evidence for bad CGI? I just don't think as much of this film was CGI as people think, or at least that many of the elements they're complaining about are actually CGI. Not that most people have really given a specific example of what they thought was bad CGI, mind you. Just watching this unfold.
So you have no specifics or even examples, just a feeling?

What exactly is "Ezra Millering"?

Ehh…okay, I can’t totally disagree but how are we defining “better”? There are a number of people here who liked this film just fine. I sympathize; I really liked Shazam 2. Not many others apparently did, but hey that’s art.

You know what else might help? We had seven CBMs in 2022, five so far in 2023 and five yet to come in the back of the year. That’s 17 (!!!) CBMs in two years. It’s a problem that should resolve itself once studios clear the pandemic backlog, but in the meantime, I’m not sure “better” would help much. There’s only so many dollars in my pocket and so many hours in my weekends.

I actually think that one scene where it looks like Flash is yelling and his face looks a little weird isn't CGI. I've seen that still used so many times.

Are you talking about the one where Barry's in the suit, out in the desert during the finale? Because everything around Barry, including the suit, is CGI.

With most of these Studios, CBM are their biggest cash cows at the moment, they are going to keep running with them. What else does WB or Sony have in terms of theatrical franchises? Seeing Sony releasing D list characters around Spider-Man because they seem to mistakenly think that any character can replicate the success they had with Venom. Even Disney can't replicate the Star Wars success consistently.

Thats the tragic thing in all this…it absolutely will. Flash will not get another shot at a theatrical film for another decade. Dont believe me? Where is Green Lantern’s movie? Box office failure tells the studio that people dont wanna see that character, plain and simple.

Wally West and John Stewart. We're getting the DCAU lineup minus MM or Hawkgirl.

While they're developing a GL Corp series under Gunn, that's a decade after the GL Film.

We won't see Flash again for a while .

I certainly don't think we'll see him in the partial slate of projects Gunn released .

When we do see him again, it will probably be in a supporting role, and I also think it will be Wally West, as opposed to Barry Allen .

But losing this much money on a Flash film (regardless of all of the things that contributed to its failure, and regardless of whether fans think it's fair or not ) , is going to give any studio pause to get back in the ring with that character in the near future.

It really will depend how Superman: Legacy goes & the projects that at this point may or not follow.

You'd be surprised how quickly wheels can start turning if they get a few home runs under their belt, but there's a hell of a lot riding on Gunn's Superman, his whole new DC Universe could fall flat on it's face if it isn't well received &/or do the sort of box office numbers you'd expect from such an iconic & well known character.

SL has got to connect with audiences, fans, and critics.

Another Meh, to indifferent, or mixed reaction, ala Superman Returns, and Man Of Steel ,ain't gonna be enough.

SL has gotta be good.

BTS shots of Keaton in Batgirl. Now I’m extra sad we won’t be seeing this

Those shots look really nice. I know we can't tell how the film would have been overall from these, but they do make me wish even more we could have seen it somehow. Shame the WB exec who leaked Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, too! couldn't have got hold of this one too!

... Yeah, of course...

Of all the projects featuring Keaton's Batman comeback, it's the ones with directors who seem to know how to properly film him that see their films cancelled.
And this set? So cool!

It's obvious that this project had a real desire to recall the spirit of Burton's films, beyond the character's appearance. I know that's not enough to make a good movie, but... Visually, I really think it could have been a treat for me.

Erf, why is it never simple with these DC movies? :funny:
