He was going to be a first time director. How can you think anyone who's directed more than one movie is more of a risk? They've retained his script , so they must like it the majority of it anyway.

WB has plenty of time to find a new director since the film's release is two years away and it probably won't be shooting until next year.

I'm kinda relieved by this, of course that could change instantly when we find out who's taking over as director, but Smith didn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence from me.

I'll take the unknown first timer over a Brett Ratner or McG type

There are more than just those two types, though. And, honestly, I think Ratner would be better suited for a Flash film than X-Men. I mean, I still wouldn't want him on this, but...

Well, according to Domhnall Gleeson...Alex Garland is a huge Flash fan and would read the comics during down time on ex machina.

Edgar Wright is still my DC film dream tho. :oldrazz:

Already afraid it's a puppet of Zack Snyder.

Walk me through that logic, because I'm not seeing it. Pre-release of BVS, just about every DC project was said to have Snyder involved at some level, and I'm sure this was no exception. Now BVS is out, tanked critically, disappointed cash-wise and the director in place for this film has been let go. What would make you think they'd put a Snyder puppet in his place?

Alex Garland would be an interesting choice, he'd also rewrite the script if he hired since he is also a screenwriter, he wrote the screenplays for Dredd, Sunshine and 28 Days later.

I think if WB wants an experienced director, Barry Sonnenfeld would be good and he can handle comedy and action although he's developing Metal Men for WB which probably won't want to give up on.

Re posting my comment form the JL board for this forum.

None of you should act like you're bummed a first time director has left a big project like this.

It's for the best I'm guessing. He directed 2 episodes of The Hard Times of RJ Berger on MTV.
I just didn't have faith with him handling a tricky superhero like the Flash as his feature film debut.

i say get someone like rupert wyatt(rise of the apes)

This is good news. He has done absolutely nothing and was one of the poster boys for the white guy gets the gig for no reason syndrome that a lot of people are sick of.

i am quite happy this was the only DC director i was nervous about

If Alex Garland is a Flash fan, you throw the checkbook at him.

This may spell trouble BTS, but I can't say I'm broken up about it. I honestly don't know why they hired him in the first place.

Unfortunate.
Were you a huge fan of the RJ Burger episodes he directed or something? Lets not play games here, he was an odd duck in this list of directors.

Also WB aren't "that" stupid, there will be some retooling going on now. BvS under-performed and is frankly a pop culture joke at this point. Thinking over letting a first time director do your big budget Flash movie is one of the smartest things that WB has done lately. I wish he weren't the only DC director let go.

Nah unfortunate as in this kind of feels like a hit to the DCEU's reputation as a "filmmaker driven" shared film franchise that WB's been boasting about in my opinion.

Him personally, i don't give two ducks about the matter.

There should be trouble behind the scenes. Not like "Let's cancel the DC universe!" trouble, but if they're not reevaluating and taking a closer look at things post-BVS, then we're all screwed.

And my earlier post was exactly for people like Jokes. Who are pretending the writer of Pride & Prejudice and Zombies and who was going to direct for the very first time is a major loss.
