I think the Venom spin-off can work and could even be good. It is the Sinister Six spin-off that has me shaking my head.
Asides from Venom, Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and maybe Kraven and the Lizard, I just don't find Spidey's rogues gallery to be all that interesting. Yeah, he benefits from having a lot of guys to fight who are diverse in their powers, but they really just serve as canon fodder for Spider-Man to overcome. Villains Carnage, Chameleon, Mysterio, Scorpion, Shocker, Electro, the Vulture, the Hobgoblin, Jackal, Sandman, the Rhino, etc. just really don't have a whole lot to them or are just kinda lame. It's kinda why I really don't look forward to a Sinister Six movie. And why I find an entire film universe centered on Spider-Man to be a really awful idea.

The lack of intriguing villains for Spider-Man is why I rank the Batman and Flash Rogues Gallery much higher than Spidey's. Hell, I'd rank Superman's Rogues Gallery higher than Spider-Man's if he just had a few more villains on par with Lex Luthor, General Zod, Brainiac, and Bizarro.

I totally disagree. I think Spider-Man has fantastic villains. One of the best selections of them in all of comics. I love the variety they have, also.

However, that said...I don't think any of them warrant films. At least Venom HAS been the star of an on giong series, and he has a clear archenemy in Carnage you can base a film after. In fact, Carnage may work better in a Venom film since they may allow that to be darker.

I think The Avengers have a pretty dynamic and impressive rogue gallery.

Spider-man get's points for having characters that mirror him in ways. More gimmicky and shallow than Batman's reflectional villains but still a fun circus mirror nonetheless.

Oh **** you're right. I totally forgot that. Rank Avengers above Spidey.

That's really the only reason why they're enjoyable is how shallow and gimmicky they are. Except for Carnage and the Jackal, those two are just terrible.

I always forget about the Jackal, LOL! Yeah, he was always pretty crappy.

But, how can ya hate on Mysterio!!! He is endlessly entertaining and silly :oldrazz:

I'd agree that many of his villains are a bit more hallow and gimmicky, but I think that fits Spider-Man and his little corner of the MCU.

Well if you just watched TASM and TASM2 you'd think Spidey had a horrible rogues gallery. Good lord I don't even know what they were thinking.

This won't happen, but let me dream for a minute, what if this movie tanks so badly that Sony sells Spidey back to Marvel? Okay, I'm done dreaming.

Sorry, but I think you rated Flash and Superman's rogue galleries too high. I think Spider-Man's rogue gallery is only second to Batman's, because he has more villains that are part of the public's consciousness than just about any other superhero.

What I am saying is if this movie came in under TASM, I wouldn't be surprised. There are bright moments. Great score, Garfield's Spidey, DeHaan is pretty good too. But man, what a misstep on the whole, especially the villains.

So many people who's opinions I respect basically saying the critics are right. Sadness :csad:

Yeah, Darth's and CK's opinions are really dragging me down… then again, I'm starting to feel morbidly curious about seeing this during a matinee or something next week possibly?

Or maybe I'll let the feeling pass and catch it at the Redbox.

So far people who enjoyed ASM1 like or love ASM2.

Most people who were meh on the first one have hated this one with a passion though there have been a few converts.

If you want to know more, I just posted in the User review thread. This movie isn't offensive it is just kind of... there.

I read that, LOL! Not encouraging.

But, I'll be doing a long write-up myself tomorrow! Likely as long as my TWS review (either way my enjoyment goes) :oldrazz:

Welp, this was me, so it's probably less likely that I'll like it… :csad:

Seems like most B.O. prognosticators are stating a $90-$95mil. weekend for it. It might have a similar Thurs. as TWS did...

FWIW, I saw the film 2 weeks ago and have waited for my best friend to see it before discussing it as it only arrived in his country yesterday. My friend ranks ASM1 the bottom of all Spidey films, even below SM3, he absolutely hated it. To my surprise, he came out of the cinema yesterday saying this was by far his favourite Spidey film ever and one of his favourite 3D experiences ever. He even placed it higher than his beloved SM2. I couldn't believe it frankly, I was very much expecting a reaction similar to what you have said, definitely one of the few converts! :wow:

After seeing the movie with some "general audience" friends, I think the movie will only end up doing slightly better than the first movie. They liked it but weren't too hot about it, meanwhile they were really hyped after seeing Winter Soldier.

This movie definitely won't have the legs that WS did. I can see it being number 2 next weekend behind the Seth Rogen movie that's getting great reviews.

755-780 mil range for me, MAYBE 800 if I'm wrong about the GA.

This film is headed for 1.2 Billion and it's RT score is only going up, all positive reviews from here and great WOM will make it the TDK of the Spiderman franchise

It soothes my pain from the movie being so poorly recieved when I write stuff like that mate!

In terms of box office, the guesses for this movie are clearly the most optimistic. Sadly I don't think this movie will have the legs needed to get anywhere close to 800 mil. I believe the movie makes about 650 - 700.

Holy ****

Bodes well for other openings!! Bring on China!
