The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 5

I thought that was a big reason why they hired Webb was for the Peter/Gwen story. Knowing full well it would all lead to her death and that would draw a bigger audience. At least thats what Sony was thinking. Everything else is so subpar and unoriginal.

Coming from someone who likes the movie, the bits I thought could have used more work was;

The parents sub plot - script
Uneven pace in the middle of the movie and climax - script/plot

I thought the action and performances were top notch (direction). I'd be looking to get rid of the writers before I got rid of the director unless Sony wants a 'name' to draw in new audience members.

I'm wondering if Drew Goddard is being brought in as a Webb replacement rather than a Sinister Six director. Though the money maybe much better with the Sony gig, it's odd that a lifelong Daredevil fan would leave a showrunning position for an extremely risky spin-off of a badly listing franchise.

One is a tv series the other is a big budget movie.

Yes, but in light of the box office drop off for the ASM series and the potential high cost of putting the Six onscreen, it is an extremely risky one. Unless Sony signs Clooney, Pitt and Damon to star in their supervillain heist flick, I can't see it doing well at the box office.

I did not realize that. Good too know. Also doesn't help how little a return they get from China either.

TASM2 in China almost made in its opening weekend what TASM made in its entire run there.

If you look at most of the other major markets, TASM2 is down from TASM. In some markets (ex. Brazil, Japan) it is way down.

EDIT: One thing I am also noticing when looking through the numbers that I find interesting is that it is down in Hong Kong which has long had a much more established film industry than the rest of China. This is entirely due to poor legs, as it actually opened significantly higher than TASM did, and then plummeted 67% and 60% over the next two weekends.

But they don't need to. It should be well cast but you don't need A listers. You need a good script. Decent acting. With special effects like in TWS, you obviously don't need to spend in the 200s. Everything else will fall into place.

For the most part, if you make a good movie, people will watch.

I'm not talking about the risk of the movie I'm taking about working on a big budget movie as aposed to TV series even childhood hero. A big thing to put on your CV. This movie could open a lot of door for him especially if the movie is well received critically.

Yeah Tim Story got to do Think Like a Man 1 and 2 after his "success" with FF.

Well, I only used him twice.

But if you want me to expand on it?

Brett Ratner. After X-3 was only given what Rush Hour 3, Tower Heist.

Joel Schumacher wasn't exactly given another blockbuster after almost killing the Batman franchise.

There are also examples of directors who came from humble beginnings and used a big picture to launch a career. The District 9 director for example.

He's only done Elysium after District 9 with one more movie to be released next year.

He's had two films counting District 9, one of which was a complete disaster. He's currently working on his third. I wouldn't use him as an example. We have no idea where his career is going yet.

And almost all directors come from humble beginnings, unless they were related to someone important or made a career in acting or producing or something first.

After X-2, Bryan Singer got Superman Returns and after that movie, it took 7-8 years to be given back the X-Men movies.

The only example that I can find so far is Zack Snyder after 300. Although, people seem to be somewhat split about Watchmen and MOS ( I personally liked it). But maybe he's given confidence cause Nolan is there.

My original point is movies will more often than not hold more attraction than tv especially if the movie has a decent budget. I'm hoping Goddard can bring something new and fresh to the superhero genre like he did with the horror genre.

Depends.

TV can be steady work.

One film may pay better than someone who's during a full season. But 2 full seasons? Might be more and obviously keep him busy a little longer.

I'm sure his long term plan is movies and if he can prove he can handle a big budget than more movie studios will give him movies. He can be a part time consultant for Daredevil during S6 pre production.

Personally speaking I thought the good think about Cabin in the woods was the story not the camera work.

They are going to make another film. I doubt the budget can really go down, unless they make massive changes like moving filming to other, cheaper cities and locking in special effects work.

Phew! And I thought something serious was happening in this thread like the end of the world or something.

Read the title of the thread and learn to keep up then. It's not a difficult thing to do.

:funny: Wow, don't things to seriously bud.

They have made enough to make another, mission accomplished. Well if you have liked the first two so far anyway. :yay:

 You really like this thread title...

It does have a nice ring to it I suppose.

I think most studios wouldn't care about the reviews if it made decent money. See Transformers, Pirates.

However, this should have probably followed the Nolan formula and not taken a dip from it's predecessor especially for a movie costing more.

It's not a very good sign for a franchise which was the standard for CBMs to possibly come in 4th behind Cap, X-Men and possibly GotG.

Oh it's cute, you actually think you have me. Just sooo adorable.

Are you going to add something to this thread or are you just going to...do whatever it is that you are doing?
