I'd be kind of shocked if TASM 2 didn't make at least $200m.

I would have been a month ago, now it would take a lot to surprise me about this flick. My serious range-guess for domestic is 193M-203M.

What does the final OS total look like at this point?

Agreed about surpassing 200M. It's right about where Thor TDW was 26 days in. I don't see it failing to get there. This has summer days coming to help it get there while Thor did not.

I don't think it will struggle at all to reach 700 million WW though, it will easily surpass it soon.
After 4 weeks of release, TWS had 500 more theaters and T: DW had over 100 more than TASM 2.

T: DW also made it to $200 million in 44 days and $4 million until it's finished.

If TASM 2 is going to keep up with T: DW it will have to do it in less theaters.

I don't see it passing Thor: The Dark World at this rate though, I'm thinking $205 million or slightly below it. At this point summer days are not beneficial for Amazing Spider-Man 2. Thor: The Dark World came in with pretty much nothing at the box office and had it all by itself for two weeks before The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Frozen came out. And even then, still relatively little besides the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug was released, a whole five weeks.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on the other hand came out when Captain America: The Winter Soldier was showing strong for a movie that was over a month long, Neighbors came out the following week and showed surprising strength against Spider-Man, then Godzilla, then X-Men: Days of Future Past and Blended, and we still have Maleficent and A Million Ways to Die in the West for what should be the Amazing Spider-Man 2's last week or two in the box office. There is just too much coming out for a film that just didn't catch on very well like the Amazing Spider-Man 2

I don't think it will struggle at all to reach 700 million WW though, it will easily surpass it soon.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently at $677 million and there is very little left for the film to go out and make the $23 million necessary to reach that threshold. Most of the foreign markets where the Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiered before the United States are pretty much done with it. The film is going to be removed from China after spending a month on screens (the rule for foreign films in China is they only get a month). The United States is going to have the film inch up to just $200 million or so. It's pretty much milked the worldwide box office dry at this point to get to $700 million.

Well, if Amazing Spider-Man 2 is struggling to break $200 million domestic, how well are Venom and Sinister Six going to do?
Sony are absolutely insane if the continue on this expanded universe charade. Those two films are going to flop unless they have tiny budgets and that is impossible so they are going to flop if they get made.

Frankly, I think we're at the point where Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton need to get fired. There is no way to even justify a $255 million production budget with a $190 million marketing budget with the result of a movie making less than $700 million.

I don't disagree with you.

Sony needs a whole different attitude when it comes to Spider-Man.

So it may not reach 700 million?

I think a complete housecleaning is needed including actors. Garfield is great but SONY needs to start from scratch with TASM4.

tasm2 will do 200M and a little bit more just because

700M will also happen

still terrible numbers for spidey

I personally don't think 700 is going to happen, especially with China winding down.

It's sad that Spidey is an also ran now. Spidey was once the king of the BO and SM1 was the highest grossing movie of the year (I thnk).
If SM1 (the first movie appearance of Spidey) had come out in the advent of 3D, IMAX and big screen ticket prices he would have sailed past a billion. As it is Spidey is just another superhero on the pile of CBM, making similar numbers to Cap, Thor and X-Men. Who would have believed that in 2002. How the mighty have fallen.
There is hope, though. Batman, Superman and Bond has been down in the dumps and come back stronger than ever so it's dark days now but it needn't be forever.

In terms of marketing... I dunno where all that money went, and they did over market the film like they thought if they drilled it into people's minds with as much new footage as they could people would run to the cinema to see it

I still think Sony are right to attempt to create an expanding universe, they need to at least attempt to keep up with DC,fox and marvel, but they just need a new plan other then well it worked for marvel so let's do that too muhahahaa

Times have changed, SM1 came out in a time when comic book movies were not a big thing, it was something new back then

Now days you have the 4 comic book movies a year, with marvel destroying all competition, DC are gonna have the same problem with batman vs super-man as they are trying to jump right into the justice league

DC has been a one trick pony for decades. First Superman and then 2 bad ones and then no CBM. Then Batman and then 2 bad ones then a new resurrected one. Now you have one and a half ponies.

You really think it will miss out on 700mil when it's so close? I just don't see that happening at all because I think it has enough in the tank in North America and especially internationally to make it.
Somewhere, AvengingSpidey is screaming.
It's evil but I'd really love to hear what he has to say now.

Hey, if I'm wrong that's cool and I know it sounds extreme, it's just been going under all my expectations so far so I'm setting a floor to it all.

Re: AvengingSpidey, I admit it would be interesting. To bad he got himself banned. :P

Also, Superman isn't nearly as popular as some fans like to make out. He's well known, but a lot of people view him as a boring, out-dated boy scout. That he's your grandfather's superhero. It is a stigma that the character has to overcome. For all its faults, I do think Man of Steel helped with that somewhat.

Yup.

I usually don't agree with Max Landis, but a lot of the stuff he says in his video about Superman is pretty true.

"You don't give a f**k about Superman, even if you think you do", rings truth.

Personally, I've loved Superman since I was a little kid. He's up there with Spidey, for me.

MoS comes out and suddenly everyone's huge Superman fans, without even knowing the name of his father.

I probably come off as a dick, but I just had to get it off my chest.

It's not a flop, it's just a disappointment. You can't really label a 700m picture a flop.

Aloha,
Most of the Spidey movies were in the theaters for at least 4 months. ASM2 has been out for less than 30 days(May 2,2014).It past the half billion mark in it;s first 2-3 weeks. There was a time when fan boys opinion of comic book movies was given weight. It's a testimony to the past success of the Spidey franchise that 700mil is considered a flop in anyones eyes.:whatever:
Spidey rules

Completely disagree with this philosophy. I realize it means nothing 'cause Sony will continue to yank the chain, but they are bringing a knife to a gun fight. How can they even hope to compete with the MCU, X-Verse or DCCU? We're talking about scale here and Sony is limited in what they can do. Those other universes are pretty much limitless.

Oh, it won't be forever, but Sony will drag it through the mud for as long as possible unfortunately. :csad: They need cash.

They don't have as much to compete with but venom, kraven, blackcat beyond others have potential to be more then supporting characters if done right

Doesn't matter whether its a big universe or a small universe, sony have to take a few chances here other then one spider-man movie every 3 years, when DC have batman,super-man and whatever other new character they want to use, and marvel have iron man, capt, thor, ant man ect ect and fox are expanding their X-men unverse with new characters and solos
