The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

Well maybe you can buy it for that person who has an uneven table.

I kid, I kid.

When does MoS2 come out again? I forget.

Yeah, WB totally scrapped the previously announced and fully developed MOS2 in favor of a total reboot that they're trying to sneakily pass off as a non-traditional sequel that is meant to launch DC's shared universe. I'm surprised they didn't recast the role of Superman or any of the other character that appeared in MOS!

I think initially they were going to fast track a Man of Steel 2 and somewhere that was changed to BvsS.

In June 2013, it was announced that Snyder and Goyer had signed on for a MOS sequel. In July 2013, Snyder announced that the sequel would include Batman. The project evolved from there. There's been no announcement or evidence that WB scrapped a straight-up Superman sequel because of Man of Steel's box office performance or reception. That's just what some folks like to think, and hey, they're welcome to feel that way. This is technically a MOS sequel, after all, since it does continue that Superman's story and feature the same cast...

"... after Man of Steel finished and we started talking about what would be in the next movie, I started subtly mentioning that it would be cool if he faced Batman... You're in a story meeting talking about, like, who should [Superman] fight if he fought this giant alien threat Zod who was basically his equal physically, from his planet, fighting on our turf... You know, who to fight next?... But I'm not gonna say at all that when I took the job to do Man of Steel that I did it in a subversive way to get to Batman. I really believe that only after contemplating who could face [Superman] did Batman come into the picture."
— Snyder, on how Batman came into the film

But really, enough of BvS in this thread, and who cares either way how the project came to be?

Exactly.

WB was anxious to start forming that long awaited DC universe. Why bother with a risky sequel to MOS when you can throw the billion dollar Batman in the film with numerous cameos from other superheroes to establish quickly all while setting up the rushed JL film. Works much better for the bank account.

I do not understand the point of that facepalm

sure ok it must mean you disagree, but how? I think most would agree that Spiderine is pretty much correct

It was mostly directed at the "risky MOS sequel" and "rushed JL film" portions. JL is at least 3 years away and BvS began production over 2 years in advance. Nothing rushed about either, and none of us know what care is being put into building a JL film. A lack of pre-existing solo films does not equate to a rushed Justice League movie.

I own first four Spidey movies on DVD but won't buy this one.

I also own the other Spidey movies. Not sure if I'll buy this one (I buy a lot less BluRays lately than I used to, but I'll definitely give it another watch on demand or something. Only saw it once in theaters.

What studio fully develops and publicly announces a sequel before the opening of the first film? They had plans for a MoS sequel. Plans. After disappointing box office results, they had to fast track their universe building and think of ways to put butts in seats. That made the MoS sequel now a JL intro movie. You don't know what you are talking about if you fully believe that BvS was always their next move after MoS. That's hilarious.

I liked MoS, but clearly WB panicked at the mediocre reviews and lower than expected box office. WB will never admit it, but actions speak louder than words.

It's why rumors slowly trickled in about what characters were going to be in the movie...it's because they were revising the script. It's Superman 2 with Superman! Now it's Batman vs Superman TOMG Batman. Now it's Dawn of Justice with TOMG Wonderwoman, Cyborg, and possibly Aquaman. Yes...seems totally planned out huh The Shape?

you are not wrong.
i just realise that there was no blockbuster movie coming up during the weekend of 4/7/14!!! i wonder if TASM2 released during that weekend, would it do better...

Well it wouldn't have been rated better.

Doubtful. The movie would still be awful.

^ Yep, the only thing that would've helped TASM 2's numbers would be the film being more than a mediocre rehash.

Well, the date a movie is released does affect box office numbers. Hence the whole August to April/June/December disparity.

Although it feels really nice to say that the movie was such a disaster that no switch in date would affect it's BO takings, it really can't be true. Unless we're saying a month with 3 blockbusters has as big of a chance at raising money as a month with absolutely nothing noteworthy in it.
