The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

Every time I come into this thread and see that poll it makes me laugh.

1.5 billion was expected by some (and rightly so in many respects) before this movie came out but wow did it disappoint in terms of BO returns.
I don't think that 1.5bil was ever a realistic goal.

Agreed. What TASM3 needs to do to get people in the door is cut a spectacular trailer, and get good reviews from critics and the GA. Naturally, it will take time to win the public back, so future Spider-Man films need to do the same.

& also Sony needs to do at the same time World Wide Releases. That two week window hurt this movie dearly

A strong written movie with a solid story from start to finish is a good place to begin. If they nail down something that gets them critical acclaim and lots of praise via word of mouth, the GA will catch on. The type of thinking that "we need to use something to get people interested again" is what scares me. They don't need to use gimmicks. I really hope they avoid that trap.

Spider-Man needs a kick ass girlfriend to help along. Captain America, X-Men, hell, even the last Dark Knight Rises had women that kicked ass. It's time for Spidey to step up to that plate.

A cat of black nature, with white hair and a disposition to steal. That's what I'm thinking.

That the GA will think is Catwoman rip off?

Then again, I'm sure DC will utilize Darkseid after the Avengers using Thanos and X-Men using Apocalypse.

This franchise should stay away from any kind of cats... Unless they're thinking of Kraven, Kraven is okay.

Sad days for Spidey, barely can crawl to $200m DOM and $700m WW At this point all we can do is hope Sony gets their **** together for the next one but if their track record is any indication that just isn't in the cards for Pete's future

I'd rather Sony not get their stuff together and this franchise die. It's not very good, in general, and another in this direction probably won't improve it.

Go ahead Sony, do S6 and ASM3 quickly so we can get on the roads to either rights reversal or reboot (way on down the line) and try this Spidey thing again.

The world needs a break from Spider-Man movies... They do however need him in an Avengers movie.

i like what marvel would do with him in the MCU but him in the avengers was never really my interest.

infact, i am surprised most people want a civil war movie rather than a fear itself series. i know fear itself was worse than civil war but imagine the potential it would have when you get the right creative team.

i mean just look at how much of a good story that would've turned out:

It's also worth pointing out Marvel/Disney's take on Spider-Man is Ultimate Spider-Man.

the comics or cartoon because i really hope it's not the cartoons considering the fact that the cartoon butchered everything about spidey and his universe and even the fact that marvel for some reason is more interested in a younger peter than the older and more mature one even never giving him a wife. infact, i don't believe the show has ever given him a love interest. if they do pull an USM spidey would be even more terrible as his treatment at sony. infact, alot of people would detest the ultimate version of the goblin

Disney also went from Avengers: EMH to Avengers: Assemble. Disney also wants to do a sequel to the worst rated Pixar movie (Cars 2) because the demographic of the ones who enjoy it.

However, none of the MCU movies are really geared towards children. So one can surmise that Disney knows what sells when it comes to certain media and when to allow the right people to make the decisions.

It probably won't happen but Malificent has pretty good legs. Last week it was $18 million behind TASM 2 after 2 weeks and now after 3 weeks it's only $9 million.

I doubt you even believe this argument. At least I hope not.

Basically, I don't think Marvel/Disney are the be all and end all and (imho) they have made precisely 2 CBMs I rate higher than 'meh'.

The cartoons are because of Loeb. The cartoons are also not any indication of what a Spidey MCU movie would be.

All people have their opinions, mine is overall the MCU although a young, growing thing has been way more hit than miss and I think the overall general audience thinks that as well. It's not perfect and they done some things that I wouldn't do, but I respect they have a general plan, and I also feel any missteps they have had don't mess up the overall work they are trying to do, at least not yet. It shows there is payoff in overall having a vision and the good that can come from it.

That said, I think a MCU Spidey film (or even TV show) could be done very well with the right team. To me though, Spidey is the best "team-up" guy. The kinda hero who everyone worked with at one time or other, but basically he usually he works alone. I know he's been in the Avengers and all that and I even enjoyed many of those issues, it's just my favorite take on Spidey is the guy who teams up with heroes but usually does his own thing.

Yeah, I was never into the idea of him joining the avengers once he goes back to marvel. I'd rather see him go solo and team up with other heroes

$117,865 monday. Domestic total is sitting at $198,504,086. It's going to be a very, very slow crawl to reach 200M (much slower than I expected). The movie should make about $470,000,000/$490,000,000 monday-thursday and should be just under 199M before the week end. Maybe 199.5M after that. I might very well not cross 200M before july.

As for Maleficent, I've been following the numbers closely, the movie is now only 8.4M behind Spidey in day-to-day gross and is currently making $750,000 more/day. If it's 4th week end is close to 10M (which is probable) Spider-Man would only be 4 millions ahead or so same time next week. I think unless Maleficent collapses in the next few weeks it will outgross TASM2 domestically. Watching How To Train Your Dragon 2 catching up is going to be a little more interesting after this so-so first week end.

The original Marvel Team-up when I was growing up was a staple. I loved seeing Spidey team up with various characters in the MU. The first time I saw Arcade was a MT-U of Spidey and Captain Britain. Man I loved that title.

This whole summer has been weird at the box office.

This whole summer has been weird at the box office.

There is a handfull of films this summer set to finish around the 200M mark. Godzilla will be very close (it is a little under TASM2 in day-to-day gross but it's doing a bit better lately with better week end holds so it might catch up with Spidey eventually), Maleficent will be too (well I think a little above 200M but probably not by much). From the latest releases I think How To Train Your Dragon 2 is going to make it clearly past 200M but if the legs aren't as good as I think they will be, the film can very well end up in a similar range, and after that opening, 22 Jumps Street surprisingly does have a shot at 200M (or close). Sure thing is that it's going to be a close race and an uphill battle for TASM2 to keep its place within the yearly domestic top 10.

To elaborate on that, the film is already 4th behind The Lego Movie, Captain America The Winter Soldier and Days Of Future Past. I think Transformers 4, Interstellar, The Hunger Games 3 and The Hobbit 3 will surely outgross it as well. And then there's Maleficent, Godzilla (to an extent), How To Train Your Dragon 2, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and Big Hero 6 who are all serious contenders. On top of that there are films like 22 Jump Street, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Penguins Of Madagascar, Night At The Museum 3 or even Dumb and Dumber To, that might very well surprise.
