The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

Your joking right?

No, seriously I know people will see this movie. Whether or not it makes more than the avengers it'll make ALOT more. And Sony shouldn't copy from that movie. Just let the creators do their own things

If you figure Malificent makes $6+ between Mon-Thurs it'll put it between $191-$193 by this weekend. A conservative drop of 50% would be about $7.5 million means that TASM2 may not be the only movie reaching $200 million this next weekend and that Malificent will officially pass TASM 2 domestically. Colored me surprised.

Guardians of the Galaxy making Avengers money? Bwahahahaha you silly sausage.

Hey, that's the way I see it. Do I know jack-**** about the box office? No, not at all. Do I think I'm overestimating? Yeah, maybe a little. But I'm sticking to my guns.

A little?

The highest grossing WW movie to be released in August was the Sixth Sense almost 15 years ago which grossed $600 million.

I'm excited about GotG, but I think it's safe to assume it's not making $600 million domestically yet alone $1.5 BILLION WW.

I realize it's...less than expected, but there is a first for everything, right? Regardless, the worst I'll be is wrong, haha. And if anything, we can all agree that GotG won't bomb.

What Guardians has going for it is there is bugger all at the cinema at the cinema currently. People may flock to the movie to get their 'superhero fix'.

GOTG won't bomb, but it isn't doing Avengers numbers either. It's the very FIRST movie of this franchise, which means trust has to be built within the audience for it to rise to those numbers.

It won't come anywhere close to TA. It'll be profitable, it'll go number one, & it'll be a success....but hitting TA numbers? Ridiculous.

Only character that will most assuredly do Avengers numbers in their own franchise movie (at this point) is Iron Man.

This movie could end up being the best CBM of the year and still not even reach half the Avengers box office. Look at DOFP, arguably one of the best X-Men movies to date and it still won't pass the halfway point of the Avengers. GOTG doesn't stand a chance. Even TWS who had a decent first movie, and an allegedly "amazing" second movie, (I thought it was meh) still failed to reach half the Avengers success.

The Avengers is in a league of it's own, at least in the CBM world. I don't even think the upcoming Dawn of Justice movie will dethrone it. I could be wrong, but as of right now the Avengers remains the king for years to come. It would be nice to see Age of Ultron beat it though. The trailer they release at SDCC better blow people's minds.

Yeah, you're probably right. I always thought that guardians obviously won't make as much as the avengers.

I think it says something about TASM 2 when the topic of discussion is how much other CBMs will be making this year haha.

What's left to discuss really ?

The movie is about done internationally, it already crawled to 700M WW and will probably reach 200M dom on sunday (on its 59th day of release ! TASM did it in 13 days with TDKR as direct competition !)

In the end, domestically, its gonna gross less than Batman Begins and it's not gonna do, over the course of its entire run, what The Avengers did on its opening week end.

It is a massive, insanely expensive dissapointment only saved by the chinese market from being a clear failure. And by "saved" I mean it's only allowing Sony to save face for the moment because they are not gonna see much of that chinese money.

It's the most expensive Spider-Man film ever made, yet the lowest entry at the BO (by a significant margin) and the worst received movie in the history of the franchise.

There is not much left to say aside from repeating the same things and feeling a bit like you're beating a dead horse.

Now let's just hope Sony learned something from their obvious mistakes on the first two films of the current series, that they will, at least, try to turn things around and deliver a movie able to please crowds and critics alike to regain some of the audience they lost with this extremely poor outing (on all fronts).

for the love of god siny just please make the third film great and just let the creators do their thing. you already had two dissapointing box office records because you've messed around with two movies which should've been massive hits! just stop before you ruin this franchise!

I agree for the most part. And it doesn't really even have anything to do with quality, TA was just a freak of nature. It had everything going for it which includes an insane amount of build up that none of these other movies have had.

I'd of course like to be proven wrong but I don't see any other superhero movie topping the precedent TA has set until Thanos pops up on-screen for the third go around. AoU is almost assured $1 billion or more, but I honestly believe it won't be until Thanos takes center stage that we'll get a movie with numbers higher than TA.

It has a lot to do with quality. SM, TDK, TA, TDKR, IM3... The top 5 DOM CBM of all time have an average RT score of 88%. (even with IM3 in there at 78% bringing it down)

That's what happens when you build up a movie for 6 years, it pays off. However, DC following in Marvel's footsteps does not guarantee the same reaction. Seems as if they're stuffing way too much into their Dawn of Justice movie for my liking, but that's up in the air for now.

Age of Ultron will make over 1B, I agree. In fact, I believe it's the only CBM movie that's a lock for 1B for the next few years. It remains to be seen if it will pass the 1.5B marker, SDCC will give us a decent indicator of the hype level that movie creates. Does anyone know if DoJ will showcase anything there?

I meant that in the sense that it'll take more than just a quality film to beat TA. It was a combination of things that allowed it to be such an enormous success. Primarily it had a lot more build-up going towards it than other superhero films (both past and present), with TDK probably being the only exception.

I think Dawn of Justice has extremely good chances of making over $1 billion as well if WB plays their cards right. I do think they should formulate their own plan & not follow behind Marvel (aside from working fast & efficiently), but if they can come up with something good there's no reason it won't make that kind of money. The one thing I can say is with Batman still being a hot property WB is going to do whatever they can to keep it that way.

Spidey needs to go into recovery mode now like the X-franchise did after 2 badly received franchise-damaging films.
