Lowest grossing domestic film, and the fact that it was a reboot or had TDKR come out 2 weeks after it's release had nothing to do with it?

I think that people here undestimate he fact of how awesome this film literally looks. The same excitement that I've got from seeing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailers than I did watching The Avengers ones. Families, teens, young men and women will all be going to be attend this. I love Cap and it's certainly AWESOME that it's been getting rave reviews, but Spider-Man is the greatest Marvel superhero of all time, quite possibly the biggest superhero ever, maybe even bigger than Batman.

So I wouldn't be surprised at all if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 turns out to be as brilliant and amazing as it looks like and it grosses north to $170m OW and $400m DOM.

Exactly.

Adjusted for inflation, Batman Begins is one of the lowest grossing Batman movies.

That's expected with most reboots regardless of quality.

No offense, Captain America. When it comes to superheroes with a Part Two reaching theaters this season, Spider-Man – for my money – has you beat by a costumed nose.

If you pay the slightest bit of attention to CinemaBlend, you know the deep admiration I personally hold for Marc Webb’s initial foray the comic-book universe, 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. In tone and texture, this was the Spider-Man movie I’ve been waiting for. Andrew Garfield personified the Peter Parker I pictured when reading Spider-Man comics as a kid. He was cocky, stubborn, determined, overwhelmed, and he used that biting sarcasm to hide the vulnerability and hesitancy that makes Spider-Man relatable. I thought Webb nailed the origin story, and with that film out of the way, I anxiously awaited his next steps.

This morning, Sony invited me to a local theater to screen 30 minutes of footage from Webb’s upcoming sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Similar events already had been held in New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Our own Eric Eisenberg has filed outstanding coverage of these presentations, even dedicating the latest episode of the weekly video show Hero Blend to his reactions to the footage.

But I had to write something. I mean, the footage blew me away. Completely fried my brain. My expectation levels were at a 10-out-of-10 for this sequel as of yesterday. Now, they’re somewhere near a 25-out-of-10. There were so many little touches that Webb seems to be bringing to the sequel that solidify the fact that he has a firm grip on these cherished characters, this precious superhero franchise. Basically, if you don’t like what Marc Webb is doing with Spider-Man, then you don’t like Spider-Man, at all. Here are five things I witnessed today that convinced me fans should be in theaters on opening day for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Because I believe that the general audience impression is similar to Sean O'Connell's is the reason why I believe that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be knocking out of the park coming next May. :woot:

I've been following Sean O'Connel since his coverage of the SDCC footage. This really got me more excited.

I've been following him since 2011 and I love to read his reviews. I couldn't be more excited to read this article, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will going to OWN this year. :hrt:

His review makes me wonder... are any of the fights in TASM2 going to rival the bank and train battles from SM2? Hmm.

His first impression makes me think that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 itself will going to join the pantheon of the best superhero films ever, not only Spider-Man's best yet. :woot:

Anything over 750M is going in the right direction. Plain and simple. Less than 750M would be disappointing considering it looks leagues better than the first.

I would be really surprised and sad if it made less than TASM1.

It won't, my friend. If anything, the probability for TASM2 to double the domestic box office is bigger than of making less than TASM1. Never fear, true believer.

ASM2 has a good shot of making 1 Billion but my money is still on the $800-900 million range. I highly doubt the movie would earn less than ASM. If the movie gets some really good reviews and lots of positive feedback when it's released in a couple of weeks that should definitely boost sales and increase the domestic count.

I think it'll be around the same as the first, which is still a ton.

And remember, sequels don't always do better. Spider-Man 2 made less than the first.

I would say yes. He said the action is unrivaled. And the bank battle? Really? I don't remember that being anything special.

Well... I liked the bank fight. :oldrazz:

True, but SM1 was a huge movie at the time, so when SM2 came out, it didn't have that same kind of hype. But then SM3 was the highest grossing Spider-Man film so honestly, who knows?

The hype for TASM2 is way higher than the first, which is why we assume it'll make more money.

For an exact prediction it will hit 1.5 billions *cough*

i voted months ago for that option, even before all those [fricking] reviews started hype up how good TASM2 looks :word: I hope i am not wrong, but we are never closer to those numbers it's seems :cwink:

A more realistic approach is around 1.3 - 1.4 billions *take off glasses*

It's highly unlikely that TASM2 would make $1.5 billion. I do think that around a billion is more realistic though.
