Oh I think that trend has a great chance of continuing. This movie needs to hit 100mil this weekend and not have mixed word of mouth like the previous film.

Too late for that. I'm already going to see it and would bet I'll enjoy it, but it's mixed already.

Yeah the movie might turn around and do really well in NA. It has a really good release date. The first week of May worked for Spidey 3, IM3, and The Avengers and delivered huge opening weekends. Even for like Origins it had a big OW. However the Australia box office often mirrors the North American box office really closely and it dropped in Australia as well. So a drop in NA is definitely possible.

I will. I'm sure there will be stuff I like and stuff I hate (there actually is stuff they did that I know I will hate from previews alone, and spoilers confirmed it) but I still wanna check it out.

Oh yeah for sure Caps OW was worse in Japan than TASM2. It was like 2 million. barely any MCU films do well in Japan. However, traditionally Spider-man has been way, way, way more popular in Japan. He's like the most popular super-hero in Japan. Their crazy for him. So the OW is still pretty disappointing. Like it should at least opened at number 2 behind Frozen. The weekend isn't over yet though, so it's possible it could rebound.

Even IM3 which had the highest opening weekend for any MCU film in Japan only opened to like 5.4 million.

ETA oops never mind: TA opened to 6.3 million :P

Hopefully the figures go up for Spidey. It is disappointing to do so much worse than the first TASM film, and get so badly beaten by Frozen's 7th week.
