I was thinking 900 million at first and a 50% change of getting 1 billion but now that the reviews are souding kind of dissopenting i dont know how much that we affect the movie.

It has a chance. It's a heavily marketed SPIDER-MAN movie. If any film has the Spider-Man name attached to it it's gonna bring in a hefty amount of cash and it'll always be like that.

Is it true that Sony needs Spider-Man to make money? I hear that Sony has been suffering lately, but not sure if it's true.

yeah sony just sold some things to get back money has they have been losing money for a while.

Sony needs franchises mib is on hiatus Bond is shared profit with mgm so the only cash cow is Spider-Man.Its electronic division did a lot of this. But things are looking up Ps4 is helping and as long as tasm2 does 850mill ww+ they will be fine especially with tasm3 sinister six and venom in the pipeline.

It appears to me that Sony doesn't have a lot of active big film franchises right now. Like someone said, James Bond is a shared profit with MGM. So its just Spider-Man. There's no certainty to Men in Black and I'm not even sure if the Ghostbusters reboot would do that well once its released. Their animation division is also not that great. Do they still have Terminator?

The news are that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is opening HUGE overseas, reports from BoxOffice.com are promising, I feel that this film will be the biggest blockbuster of the year, Spider-Man is back as one of the box office kings. :woot:

Fingers crossed it rakes in the big money.

Where did you see that news Avenging Spidey?

As an anecdotal thing, I was talking to my local cinema today and the guy behind the counter was saying every sitting had virtually sold out over the first day and a half!

Exciting times

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Swinging Strong In International Debut As It Casts Global Web

There’s absolutely no arachnophobia in international markets for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sony Pictures Entertainment’s latest film in its mega-franchise opened in 15 territories — including across Europe in the U.K. Spain, Germany and Belgium and in other top markets of Mexico and Australia — and numbers are just now rolling in … and they are very strong and off to a great start.

In four markets — the U.K., Germany, Australia and Belgium — the movie already has logged the biggest opening days of the year. In the U.K., Spidey grossed $2.73M, which is not surprising since it’s a top school holiday and kids are flooding into the market now. Back in 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man made $40.3M in the U.K. all in, so this is one of the most important markets for the studio. The film grabbed $1.44M Down Under in Australia, a big $1.3M in Germany and in Belgium $190K for its opening day. Other markets where Spidey opened are Austria, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, Uraguay, Bulgaria, and Sweden.

Sony has made sure that the entire ASM2 team has been on full-court promotional tours in the press around the world, including China, which was the No. 1 overseas market for the first Amazing Spider-Man with $48.4M there in 2012. The total international gross in 2012 was $490.1M.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Nets Big Opening Day Results From First Four Territories

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 began spinning its web overseas after netting a total of $5.4 million from its first four territories.

Sony's Spidey sequel collected $2.73 million on Wednesday in the United Kingdom. The film also took in $190k from its Wednesday opening in Belgium.

Thursday openings for the superhero sequel included Australia with $1.44 million and a $1.11 million debut from Germany.

Spider-Man will have four clear weeks without competition from a comparable release overseas. The film will open in 15 additional territories this weekend.

Oh, international audiences will eat this movie up. I have no doubt about that.

But I wonder if it can stop the domestic decline?

There is no domestic decline. Spider-Man is once again an event at the cinemas. I feel this will be huge. $400m DOM huge. Just watch.

So you wouldn't call each Spider-Man movie earning less and less at the domestic box office a decline?

while back when the first spider man movie ever came out it had that going being the first time on the big screen. The last spider man movie was a reboot so that truned a lot of people away. I think the hype is bigger then it was with the first amazing spider man so i think this one will make more both in the USA and out side. In the USA i think at least 300 million.

I love when rational thought is thrown out the window. :funny:

Avenging Spidey is the Anno Domini of The Amazing Spider-Man :funny:

I'm actually offended by that. :o

What is wrong with me been positive in the waves of baseless negativism that spread by some here?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is getting some CRAZY word of mouth and the reports from overseas are from sellouts all across the board, Easter should make for a great start to the film's box office. That's time to celebrate, not dread.

It's hard for people to celebrate when they haven't seen it themselves. :funny:
