He actually looks like Parker, makes quips and seems to actually understand the character. Plus his body shape is perfect for the role, skinny but muscular

I agree with those points too. Marc Webb stated that Andrew has a very specific notion for who Peter is, and I agree. You can just tell with his persona and mannerisms in TASM.
And hey, it's all opinion at the end of the day, but he fits what I want and see in Peter.

Most of those people aren't necessarily part of the GA. The GA usually consists of people who go watch movies these movies casually. They don't keep up with the latest news or have much knowledge of the source material, nor do they have heated debates over which actor was better (Tobey vs. Andrew for example).

Thats true, but there are some people out there I know that make twilight comparisons for some reason and refuse to watch TASM

Some opinions are just wrong. TASM is nothing like Twilight.

Yeah, I really love what ANdrew is doing, even outside of Spider-man though, I still think he is a hero. Espically for the LGBT community and people with social problems.

lmao I know, just because theres a love story in something doesn't mean its Twilight. Spider-man has always had a love story in it, even the comics.

It's funny.
The general don't even know about what we know most of the time. Like I'm sure there's a huge bunch out there who doesn't know about Paul Giamatti as Rhino, or that Rhino is gonna be in it. Or that Harry is being introduced, or that Jamie Foxx is playing Electro and that he's the main villain...etc. we only know it because we make the effort to keep up with this, and we want to know. But to the casual goer, they have no idea until about maybe a month before release, or if they see the right movie that has the trailer in it, etc.

Its really funny at times, because I'll be telling people about the new Spider-man movie, and they didn't even no there was another one coming out

Exactly.
That's usually the general response. It's because they're not interested. Can't blame em. People are into their own things. But if they didn't know a new one was coming out, they definitely don't know about any of the things we know. It's a funny contrast.

It's not until the month or two before where commercials are airing, the bunch of billboards...THAT'S where the general people will see it and know.

No. Some opinions are informed and some are uninformed. Just because you hate Twilight (everyone hates Twilight. We get it) and love TASM doesn't mean that there are no similarities between the two, particularly, the decidedly different approach to the character and romance.

Now I'm not saying that TASM "ripped off" Twlight or anything so simplistic or juvenile. I am saying that studios follow and in fact, bank heavily on trends. Remember after the success of the first few Harry Potter movies how there were suddenly a million adaptations of young adult fantasy novels(Lemony Snickett, the Spiderwick Chronicles, Golden Compass, etc...)- which weren't necessarily Harry Potter "rip offs", but the decision for the studio to greenlight them was heavily, heavily influenced by the success of the Harry Potter franchise.

For those of us that notice and pay attention to such things, the fact that they decided to reboot, putting Parker back in high school (which made logistical sense from a storytelling standpoint sure- but would also appeal to a greater extent to pre-teens and teenagers), They decided to make the character a more brooding, angsty "outsider" (which IS a trend now-whether you believe the character has always been this way or not), Hire a director known for his hit romantic film to develop a romance that the female demographic could more easily identify with, etc... And this is putting aside the superficial aesthetics like trendy music and clothing, etc...

It's not a conspiracy and it's not a rip off, but studios don't make choices like this apropo of nothing...

Hahaha ASM is not so much like Twilight that it's a justified comparision. Sorry Vid.

Peter Parker who has been drawn any number of ways over the years. From "dumpy" and "nerdy", to average everyman to supermodel gorgeous. Right.

Quips? I must have missed the part where Garfield received a scriptwriting credit!

Read my post again. I'm talking about trends. There are similarities if you pay attention.

I see what you mean, but this high school love story thing is from the comics. They decided to reboot to 1) keep the rights to the character and 2) because they couldn't find a way to continue Raimi's series.

Them putting him in high school would appeal to a younger audience, sure. But what's more important is that it would be a time period that Raimi's films didn't cover very much, and therefore would make it different. And again, it's from the comics.

The angsty outsider arguement is what I can agree with. It did feel a little "teenage movie"-esque with the skateboard added to it.

Hiring Webb could definitely be a trend following thing, but I honestly think it had more to do with how well he directed (500) Days of Summer, as well as the fact that many people complained about Peter and MJ's relationship in Raimi's trilogy. The producers roam the Internet and listen to the fans (for good or bad).

I honestly can't see how the clothing was overly trendy. I've never understood this complaint. Peter looked pretty regular to me. The only clothing that stood out to me was Gwen's, but those were pretty accurate to her comic book portrayal. The music fit the scenes IMO.

So yeah, I can agree with some of your points, but as I said, I really don't think that's enough to justifie such a comparision.

So wait, people are complaining about the clothing and the music all of a sudden? Oh whatever...

Complaining? Why is this the first thing to pop into people's heads when anything other than praise is uttered?

No. There is no complaining. Observation and critique. The clothing and music in the film did not bother me, personally.

There was never really a high school love story from the comics though. Sure Peter dated Betty Brant for a while, but she didn't attend high school. Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that out of all of the choices they could have made with where to re-start the character (they could have done a soft re-boot as Marvel did with Hulk or WB is doing with Batman), but they chose to focus on the teenage love story. Which is totally fine as far as I'm concerned- I just understand their reasons for doing it (attracting a certain demographic).

But which comics? Spider-Man has been around for 50+ years and the character was in high school for 3 or them.

Studios are lazy. Remember when they hired Tim Story to direct the Fantastic Four because his surprise hit "Barber Shop" showed his talent at directing a "squabbling family"?

I honestly can't see how the clothing was overly trendy. I've never understood this complaint. Peter looked pretty regular to me. The only clothing that stood out to me was Gwen's, but those were pretty accurate to her comic book portrayal. The music fit the scenes IMO.

It was. Peter looked like he stepped out of an Urban Outfitters catalogue. Like I said, not that it's a problem, but it's just understanding and realizing that things like this are very plainly meant to appeal to certain demographics.

So yeah, I can agree with some of your points, but as I said, I really don't think that's enough to justifie such a comparision.

Like I said, I'm in no way comparing the two films, just noting that movies get made in certain ways for certain reasons in Hollywood- and in this case, the trend is pretty visible.
