6/10.

The film gets more frustrating the more I watch it but the small 'goods' (i.e., visuals, Spider-Man, Garfield, Stone, score), that are done so well, outweigh the very notable 'bads'.
That is probably my final and definitive score.

It's hard to watch the movie without thinking back to how I perceived it prior to the film's release. I keep thinking about "what could have been" and all of the wasted potential. Damn you, Sony!

You know what I hate about TASM2? It was filmed entirely in New York and it did not feel a bit like New York at all. For instance, it took several viewings just to notice that Peter and Gwen Stacey were walking on the NYC High Line on their date. They start off in Union Square and suddenly it cuts to the High Line without an establishing shot or anything. There was no "New York spirit" that the Raimi's films had, and even though that sometimes came off as corny, Raimi did an excellent job at capturing the feel of being in NYC. There was a spark, as if NYC was a character in of itself, and I think that's missing in these new movies.

Just think to that city montage in Spider-Man (2002) where people are being interviewed about Spider-Man. "He puts his hands up, ropes come out, and he swings on the ropes like a spider web." Between lines like that and the guy singing on the subway, it really felt like I was visiting Manhattan while watching that film. Not to mention that Raimi's films were mainly shot in LA and only a short amount of time was spent in NYC.

The film was filmed in New York but it doesn't feel like New York? Sure thing mate, it felt like Las Vegas, you know? The casinos and everything.

:barf:

Hopefully Webb can go back to fun little indie comedy-dramas. The only good things out of these films were Gwen and some action.

(500) Days was so much better than either of these films...

That "vomit" smilie is uncalled for. And you missed the point that I was going for. I'm aware that it takes place in New York and can see a ton of NY landmarks: the Metlife building, union square, the High Line, etc. But they never took full advantage of filming in NYC. They could have easily shot most of the movie in LA and it wouldn't feel much different.

I think Marc is really good when it comes to romance and getting characters together that share great chemistry. But he is a horrible action director, and I don't think he can handle big superhero films. Hard to say since he is inexperienced and Sony probably messed around with the production of the film, but still. I don't think his career is going to go in a spectacular direction.

They sure didn't, except that it felt it was New York because it was filmed in New York. No one missed the point here. If you don't live in New York, you should pay a visit one day.

I thought they did a decent job at taking advantage of new york. What do you want them to do? Hokily show landmarks constantly?
