I'm actually kind of excited for this new origin. Then again, I'm pretty susceptible to change. It doesn't bother me one bit. And while I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and want things to remain faithful to the comics, it's always nice and refreshing to get acclimated to something "new".

I feel Marc Webb knows what to do. This is kind of a modern retelling of Spider-Man. He is making it so that the same lessons taught 50 years ago can be translated well to the people of modern day.

I think the new origin is actually kind of interesting and allows a little more depth. Instead of being an accident, there is a purpose. Like other posters have said, I think Peter is Richard's black box. He hid his research inside Peter hoping that one day, Peter will unlock the secrets he kind of holds. I think this is one of the reasons why Doctor Connors is so excited to see him.

And I know a lot of people are questioning Doc Connors thinking he is going to be bad the entire film...maybe he will be. While it does suck that it's different then the character we've become accustomed to...it makes sense. Like he says in the trailer.

"Your father and I were going to change the lives of millions, including my own."

Then Peter came along and Richard abandoned the research. It kind of makes sense, to have that promise stripped away from you. I think anyone would have a little animosity/resentment towards that fact.

I think this film is definitely going to deliver on all fronts. Though I don't think it's going to be a huge box office success story. It's going to do great but I think the sequels are where it's really going to shine. This film has so much adversity to overcome. Adversity that I honestly don't understand.

A lot of people bashed the Raimi films and now they are getting something that seems to actually understand the character, even though tweaks are made, and they grab their pitch forks and torches?

Garfield and Stone will prove that they are the definitive actor/actress for the roles. I'm willing to bet people will be blown away by their performances. And then people will get excited for the sequels to come.

Good post. I will add though that I think the trailers have been overplaying Dr. Connors as a bad guy. Webb and Ifans have referred to him a good man who makes bad decisions, in part because he desperately wants to re-grow his arm. His wife and son will also make an appearance in the film, so that's definitely a sign to show that he's not completely bad.

I'm glad to hear that! I hope Martha and Billy play a bigger role in the film.

I'm still not completely sold on The Lizard's look but I loved the way him and Spidey move in the glimpses of their battles, it feels very natural.

Yeah, I'm sort of the same way. The Lizard's look is awesome in certain parts and then feels weird in others. For a while I thought it was because the lack of a snout. I'm starting to think it's more because his eyes and mouth don't change as drastically as I would like.

In a lot of shots with the Lizard opening his mouth, his teeth don't look menacing. I'm not hoping for over the top fangs like Venom but I would like teeth that look intimidating. I also wish he didn't have human eyes. It confuses me because in the trailer he has reptilian green eyes. Then in the beginning of the trailer, with the glimpse of him lunging at Spidey, his eyes look as though they glow red.

But, when watching him scale up the school wall after Spider-Man, you can clearly see human looking eyes. I know Webb and co are still working on Lizard so maybe they are still in the midst of post-processing? I'm not sure. Regardless, I just hope the Lizard is done justice.

He is my favorite Spider-Man villain and I have been waiting nearly 11-12 years for him to make his debut on the silver screen. I say 12 because in the pre-production phase of the original Spider-Man, there was talk of the Lizard being chosen. Then Spider-Man 2 rolled around and rumors began circulating that The Lizard was Raimi's choice...ugh so many damn setbacks/broken dreams.

Webb seems like he gets the character and I have no doubt that he is going to do a phenomenal job of encapsulating what makes the Lizard so compelling.

Maybe there is a evolution after all and he becomes more and more reptilian with each transformation. There is one nitpick I have, its that I would rather have his eyes rather than green. The reason is that red is more menacing obviously, and the one lizard that can regrow its tail has red eyes.

The Avengers have made 80.5 mil on Friday, and it is on track to break the record for OW gross. Even though ASM doesn't belong to Marvel Studios, it is still a Marvel superhero movie, and I want both movies to do well. I doubt ASM will be able to match TA's box office but I'm sure it will exceed many people's expectation.

I wonder if there'll be more of Norman.

If that's the only scene we'll get with him, I have no clue why the hell they threw it in the trailer. Way to ruin the surprise...

Way I see it, Avengers' humongous success will be a good thing for all superhero movies, Spidey will be HUGE in Asia, very possible for it to do more than 300 million just there considering the growth of the markets, like China since Spidey 3, plus, the Asians LOVE 3D, especially native 3D, this will make bucketloads of money, it's the most popular superhero anyway.

That's probably not. If he really is Norman, I think that in that scene we don't yet here his name and we don't really know who he is, but after credits there will be a scene with him where someone refers to him as Norman

It would be nice if that were the case; almost like a nod to the different artistic depictions of the character over the years.

I just had a thought. What if Peter wasn't experimented on as a kid by his father, but rather whatever his Dad did to the spider that bites Peter had something to do with Peter's DNA? What if Peter is the only one that can become Spider-Man because whatever changed the spider is based on Peter's DNA? That would explain why Dr. Ratha said the whole "Do you really think it was an accident?" because it wasn't a stroke of luck that he got powers, it was the only outcome.

Interesting. But what could be so important about Peters DNA to that of the average human?

Also, I wonder if we could see Peter mutate into the man spider in future films? If they where going to make Richards research into a weapon, it could have been a bio weapon or something.

^Great idea. I think that would seperate the Raimi/Web movies too.

I don't think Richard experimented on his one and only son. He loves him a lot, as you can see in the trailer. Unless he was forced to (putting Peter and his wife at risk), I don't see it happening.
