The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - - Part 11

There is a difference between coincidence and connection. These characters are all connected to each other by what looks to be the films main villain, Oscorp.

Those connections are coincidences....

A connection would be Connors working with Peter's father. When everything seems to revolve around OSCORP and all the little coincidences like Peter's new girlfriend, Gwen, also working at OSCORP...then it seems to be forcing connections if it's overdone.

As mentioned, I'm fine with them if they aren't forced. If Ben was an electrician at an OSCORP subsidiary and was laid off...then it becomes vomit territory. It's one of the reasons I hated about SSM with Norman and Tombstone being the cause of all the villains.

He did get his powers from Oscorp in the Ultimate Spider-man comics

Yeah I really despise USM so I follow that zero..

Plus...a lot of stuff happens in the comics is fine staying on paper....like Ock dating May. That doesn't mean it isn't a forced connection. It is. There are loads of coincidences, conveniences, and connections in the comics. That's fine....comics would be boring otherwise.

I remember the loads of people whining over Raimi connecting all the villains to Peter personally and they stay quiet when it happens by Webb...not saying you...just as a general statement.

I thought it was completely fine in Raimi movies that they had the villains connected to Peter personally, except Sandman, that was some ****

Gwen working in Oscorp is somewhat forced, but I don't think that the "Peter's dad and Connors" working to together is all that bad. Certainly if in the Raimi movies after 3 films suddenly Connors would've turned out to be Peter's dad's work partner that would feel very forced, but now as they're establishing a new universe with new rules, it's not

I completely agree with you.

I love the way Spidey moves.

Where you hearing that from then?

You know that the 20th Century Fox execs hated what they where seeing of Star Wars 1977? Look how that turned out.

Also, as some said here, the execs of the above company also hated X:FC. Look how that turned out.

Basically, ignore all rumors until we hear something concrete :-).

there were a few articles on it and even a youtube video about it...im not dismissing this film off of those rumors but does anybody know what exactly they dont like about the film?

I agree it's fine...I have no issue with it.

I was replying about how this movie seems to also have a lot of connections through coincidences to someone who thought he knew what he was talking about.

I agree. I think Sandman went too far. They had already clearly established what happened with uncle Ben's death in the first film, that just seemed way too clunky to throw it in there. I understand that the villain having a personal connection to Peter helps with Spider-man's character arc (and the villain's), but sometimes you just can't force it.

If true, it could be for a number a reasons. Maybe they think the pacing is off, that the film starts off really slow and is bogged down by a lot of set-up with too much talking and not enough action. Maybe they think the more darker tone of the film is not "kid-friendly" enough. Maybe they think the alterations to the origin might be potentially alienating to Spider-Man fans. Maybe they think the chemistry between the actors is off. Maybe they think the audience familiar with the Raimi films will be confused. Maybe there's nothing to it at all. Who knows.

Two hours honestly would be more than sufficient, considering every person on Earth knows the origin, which could pretty much be railed through in like 10-15 minutes.

Ok cool. I somewhat do agree with you

How about just becoming the first Webb?

:yay:The dude knows Spidey ... i think and i hope the changes are not that significant to the storyline and the characters

I like that the "You've found my weakness....it's small knives" line actually garnered some laughter everytime I saw it in a theatre.
