Wow, whoever is doing the marketing campaign should be fired. This has got to be one of the WORST marketing campaigns I've ever seen for a feature film since Green Lantern.

Just bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad.

Why? They had a four minute super preview on TV.

I know. :csad:

While I'm liking the stuff being shown, I'm getting more and more of a Green Lantern feel from this. ****.

I can say CGI looks a lot better in 3D to me at least. And I can be quite critical of cgi.

As for the Green Lantern feel? Nah, that one scene in the beginning had more emotion/power than all of GL could ever have. GL never had a mystery. The romance looked lame from the start. The trailers showed that everything about the movie was just corny and cheesy and Hal Jordan was out of character in some parts.

I don't see those in this movie.

EDIT: Yeah that leather thing was meh, but I can look past it. Even Avengers had a shot (or two) that I was little nitpicky about but I could totally look past that. Also, it could be a shot that is finished now but wasnt at the time this was cut, you never know.

I think he meant it felt like GL when comparing CGI.

OK, I'll admit. It does.

Thank you.

The bridge sequence looks good. The mask coming off every now and then during action sequences is a given...we've got two we know about at least - with the little boy and when surrounded by the police. I don't think it's much of a big deal here or in the Raimi series. As we know it allows the actor to emote better in the suit, put a face to it, etc. And Peter trying to calm and connect to the kid with the mask makes sense for me.

All aboard the TASM Train.

Indeed!!

Didn't Marc Webb say they were still working on all of the Lizard stuff up until release day?

I was wondering when does the movie due to ship and stuff.

Can anyone take a guess at how much you think that car weighed? I really have no clue at all. I am pretty sure that it is close to two tons, but I really don't know. It seems like that it the most that Spider-man can carry in this movie.

Aside from the seat having indestructible cushioning, the Lizard's arm looked awesome in that shot.

i don´t think that looked indestructable look better the lizard ripped the leather with cushioning:yay:

Ill say it looks better than GL at least. But Im not sold yet... Not a good thing after several trailers and a 4 minute "preview" The whole scene seemed rehashed in a way, and actually kind of cheap looking to me. I love Garfield, but have always hated the hair and suit. Ruins the look and feel in my opinion.

I think its just a lil bit TOO serious that its rather funny to me.

The webswinging is phenomenal looking. Peter looked hella awkward in the first second there landing ontop of the bridge.

It happened twice, and neither time did Imageworks even think about it apparently. If you ripped off leather with sharp objects, you aren't going to rip off ONLY leather, which the Lizard does...somehow. He makes no imprint in the cushioning beneath which makes it look like he suctioned the leather to his hand and just tore it off that way. It's like a magic trick and it looks terrible.

What are you talking about man?

You have to take into account the structural integrity of the car after been hurled off a bridge by the lizard though. Yes it does look like he's struggling to hold it, but maybe it's not that it's too heavy...more so that it's about to fall apart at any minute so he has to try and keep steady. Plus it's essentially a dead weight and any movement from the kid would make the car move and increase the pain Spidey would feel

Loved the footage, tried not to watch it but couldn't resist. AnneFan said it better than I could

probably around 3500 to 4000 lbs. If you knew the make you could look it up but I'm not sure what it is.

The wonky CGI/vfx in many parts (mainly pertaining to the Lizard) really does draw you out of the footage.

Spider-Man himself along with his webslinging is still the best aspect of the movie for me. The seat scratching and the midi file looking fire aren't the only problems.

Check out when the Lizard breaks the window in where Dr. Ratha is sitting in. He breaks through it and Ratha doesn't even flinch or blink an eye throughout the entire ordeal. Not focusing on little details like that is really a bummer especially in this day and age.

Did like the scene with the kid. It was a nice little character moment but its a shame that a lot of the vfx work is so lackluster.

That was dope. The trailer looks boss in 3d and that will give it a good boost in sales since it was shot in 3d and people will talk about how good it looks. Probably not Avengers kind of boost but a jump none the less

Dude, seriously -- shut up. I've said nothing bad about the movie. Just that the marketing campaign has sucked.

They've failed to establish waht this movie is and all they seem to be doing is trying to justify the reboot by saying this is some UNTOLD story (which it isn't) instead of selling it as a movie with a lot more heart than Raimi's films and with a new take on Spider-Man that you haven't seen before.

They're apologizing for a film that's probably pretty good -- if not really good -- and it's gonna sabotage it in a summer filled with fantastic films that are so clearly defining themselves in their campaigns.

They just rehashed the trailer with a tacked on opening and called it a preview. It's misleading, as has been their entire campaign of selling this as what?

Isn't that pretty much the same thing?

Be careful. Mary Jane Watson may tell you to GTFO for disagreeing with something

am i the only one who HATED this preview?

I wasn't too crazy about the last two and half minutes basically being the most recent trailer that we got, but that bridge scene at the beginning more than made up for it.

Isn't that pretty much the same thing?

No -- one is saying "look we're retelling the origin story but it's a new take and a new direction" the other is saying "an untold story" as if Raimi MISSED something or CHOSE NOT TO TELL a part of Spidey's story.

For general audiences, it's incredibly confusing -- which is why awareness is so low. I was speaking to a studio exec the other day who was saying that their marketing team really has NO CLUE how to sell it.

You sell it as a new take, a new vision, and a new version. Meet Spidey Like You've Never Seen Him Before.

You focus on the fake that it IS a reboot, instead of trying to hide it or rationalize it. In Marketing, the simple nuances go miles -- and they're dropping the ball big time.

I hear people who don't know it's a reboot, people who think it's a prequel, but don't understand how it can be --

Notice how they rarely show Peter pre-bite. Notice how they sell the film like "do you want to know what you REALLY are" -- as if it's going to reveal the truth of the origin in Riami's film, but yet -- it takes place right after he becomes Spidey so....wait...RARGH -- that's your GA's reaction.

It's messy, and it doesn't sell a consistent theme or idea behind it.

Avengers -- Team Up Of A Lifetime
Prometheus - Ridley Scott Returns to Alien
Batman - The End of A Hero

Clear, focused ideas behind their marketing campaigns. SOLID FOCUS ideas that maybe don't always speak to the story, but they're a focused idea that can build hype.

What's building hype about Spider-Man? OMG, I can't wait to hear about the Untold origin story that was never told in the first place? No -- they need a clearer idea and tap what we are really all excited about -- a NEW TAKE on Spider-Man by a new director, a fresh start, a new evolution of the character. That should be their selling point --

NEW TAKE, NEW ORIGIN, SAME FRIENDLY-NEIGHBORHOOD HERO.

Instead, it's just convoluted.

Its a very unique set piece that works well with the character, liked it a lot. Wasn't this the same guy that spilled about what his role in the movie would be some time ago?
