I know some adult and teenage viewers hate that - those moments - but as a writer out here in hollywoodland the reason I sometimes include moments like that and I'm betting why other writers do is it offers something more for kids. Seeing that scene as an adult wouldn't necessarily have the same awe-inspiring effect it would have on a kid. If that makes sense? Basically those moments are mainly for the children and families in the audience. As long as it fits, doesn't detract, but also adds - the hero as a good guy - it's just a 'family' kinda moment in keeping the audience seeing it in mind.

Personally, I think this scene goes above that. It's basically - "anybody can be Spider-Man." Nor completely, but awfully close. The mask does give Peter strength. Basically sums up the notion that it could be anyone under the mask - Stan's words summarized, not my own. That's partly why Spidey works.

I hope the kid gives Spidey back his mask and says, "it smells."

Saw the clip.. The bridge scene was pretty cool. It seemed they left maybe a little out. But i'm not complaining. A lil disappointed :o ( I Skip Chemistry homework for this... )

i mean how many superhero films honestly need the lame ass cliche of the heroes interacting with some little kid? honestly?

Highly disagree. They actually kept the cheese factor to the minimum level in this scene. There was no melodrama, nothing. Just Spidey empowering a kid with courage to overcome an obstacle.

I have no idea what in all **** you are talking about when you imply that other superhero movies have done this too. Do give me an example please

Batman Begins with the kid.

Iron Man lifting the soccer mom car.

Iron Man 2 mid-end battle.

Spider-Man 3 in the end-battle. I'm pretty sure other Spidey movies have done this as well.

Transformers films do this a lot, and blockbusters from time to time include a scene like this from time to time.

It's usually short quick additions or using children or families instead of some other random street person to just add more for the 'family crowd.'

The cliche is a car-filled with families sees something exciting pass by their window.

I like the idea of his mask being used a source of power for the boy, but for the police it's a negative concept. Also, we all know the mask has to come off from time to time so we can see the actor. Webb gets points for finding a way to do this with some originality.

/facepalm.

So you are telling me all those scenes were as empowering or had the same message as this one? Superheros always save civilians but this particular occasion had more heart in it. In the other movies, saving those civilians was an afterthought - an excuse for the superhero to show off his skills. This scene showed more than that to me.

Lol. No. If you read my first post I said nothing of the like. I explained why I liked it and it stands above this classic hollywood moment. The other guy said something of the like. You asked what other films have children moments and I merely listed examples of what this guy is probably thinking of.

Well then just assume my reply pertains to spida-man, and why the scenes you put up in comparison are NOT similar.

It's only 4 minutes... If you skip chemistry homework for it then that's on you, there's plenty of time.

Unless you sat through the entire show, but still... do your homework man! :cwink:

It's a good movie; it is. But, the marketing is miselling it. They're playing it up as TDK with Spider-Man and it's not.

It's just a more grounded take on the character that updates him as if Stan Lee had conceived of Peter Parker in 2012. If you can imagine that, that if Spidey was created today the science nerd = the skater outcast sorta analogies, then you got this film.

HOWEVER, selling it as some untold story is wrong -- it's the same story just told in a different way. They shouldn't be modelling themselves after Star Trek or Casino Royale, but more Batman Begins -- which said basically "hey, we're rebooting, no apologies needed"

This is a town that runs on fear. And Avengers has scared the **** out of Sony, and now they're worried about TDKR -- which is a real legit fear. That the hype around TDKR will inhibit people from wanting to go to Spidey so they're scrambling to find a message.
NOW they're worried? ASM was screwed the moment they booked the slot two weeks before TDKR. :o

I mean, any idiot could have seen that the release date was a terrible friggin' idea!

Anyone have any idea where this little sequence came from? Don't remember seeing it in any of the new footage.

The bridge scene hit me to the core. Andrew is spider-man. In no way did this give off a tdk vibe. It gave off a spider-man vibe. Can't wait !

guys i just saw the 4-min preview and omg that was just pure amazing...
i was ballin man tears with the kid scene
i am really impressed with wat i saw, hopefully they havent revealed much about the plot and money shots...

LOVED that bridge scene between Spidey and the kid. Wow...just wow. Screw any of the trailers because THAT'S the kind of scene that makes me love Spider-Man.

And...the guy speaking to Curt Connors....doesn't he sound exactly like that dad in that bridge scene? He's the Boston Reaper from Criminal Minds and he had the same tone of voice from that scene with Dr. Connors. Is that just me in thinking that?

Thats what killed Superman Returns...was too close to the POTC sequel. If they had more space between them SR would have made more money and we would have seen more sequels

poorly edited, especially the new sound clips for the trailer, and that bridge scene sucked based of the video. i know it'll be way better in the actual film but good lord it was annoyingly cheesy as fck.

i mean how many superhero films honestly need the lame ass cliche of the heroes interacting with some little kid? honestly?

and the music....SERIOUSLY who the hell is giving the order that every single marketing video for anythign and everything needs to have dubstep? seriously..wtf...

Was it as forced as Spidey lecturing those two kids in Spider-Man 2? Nope.

Just watched it on tv with America's Got Talent; it's good to see my faith rewarded so greatly every time I see something new. It just looks better and better; I felt, by the way SPOILERS ahead:
I felt the scene where Peter gave the kid his mask inside the dangling by a web struck, which is on fire, was a tiny bit corny... but at the same time extremely moving. I've never seen a rendition of Spiderman give a child his mask to make him stronger and have the will to clip out of the car. Saves the child at the last moment when the car takes a plunge, and then we get pretty much the same things we've seen in the second theatrical trailer with the exception of a few new awesome shots and the ending scene where the high school coach is asking Peter to join the football team. "Nah, too dangerous." LOL

Whoever is writing this version of Peter, as well as Garfield who is doing a tremendous job himself, BOTH deserve a standing ovation. I simply cannot wait for this film; it is the underdog of 2012. :hrt:

It definitely reminds me of the last episodes of Batman Beyond when Terry reveals his face in order to save a kid from a burning building. I'm assuming since the clip was probably chopped up that the kid is spooked by Spider-man, which is another reason why he takes his mask off.

I'm still not seeing this so called "TDK vibe" that some people have been talking about. It's just Spider-Man set in more of a night time setting. The movie doesn't seem to be grounded, unless, you think a boy with superhuman powers that can climb walls, and a man turning into a huge lizard is somehow "grounded", than.....sure.

just like spidey himself. If it does ok and is a sleeper hit, ill still enjoy it. Hell kickass got a SEQUAL. This gives off a similar vibe.

I think when they mean grounded, more like our world today, with these amazing things happening within it. More so than the world we got in the previous incarnations.

I will forever love Spiderman 1 & 2, but it's biggest flaws with the films were that the interactions between Spiderman and the people of New York have been forced, corny, tasteless, and far from being realistic. And I can say that in parts it still feels this way, but at least it feels remotely more natural in this given scenario.

I applaud it for being a fresh and brand new approach, but in all honesty... yes, it felt a little hammy to me; it could have been given more, but I felt the sense of danger, the effects looked awesome, Garfield has embodied both Peter and Spiderman wonderfully, and don't think it will cost the film. It has several other new and fresh elements that make this film a home run alone.

Dude, seriously -- shut up. I've said nothing bad about the movie. Just that the marketing campaign has sucked.

They've failed to establish waht this movie is and all they seem to be doing is trying to justify the reboot by saying this is some UNTOLD story (which it isn't) instead of selling it as a movie with a lot more heart than Raimi's films and with a new take on Spider-Man that you haven't seen before.

They're apologizing for a film that's probably pretty good -- if not really good -- and it's gonna sabotage it in a summer filled with fantastic films that are so clearly defining themselves in their campaigns.

They just rehashed the trailer with a tacked on opening and called it a preview. It's misleading, as has been their entire campaign of selling this as what?

Okay okay, you probably need to take some chill pilll, sorry for the misunderstood. I have been getting use to that little annoying youtubers lol. I get it about the marketing too. I also really wish that they had not showed the teaser trailer cuz it confuses the hell out of them for sure.

Mhmm. It also increases the danger level.

:woot:

Be careful. Mary Jane Watson may tell you to GTFO for disagreeing with something

:cmad: He is RIGHT. Watch out!

A

Why are you excited for Spider-Man?

Well they're gonna tell the untold story of Spider-Man.....what? No, no one's excited about that, especially when it clearly is THE SAME STORY.

Instead, they should get people to answer "it's a new take on Spidey, with new actors, and it's going to have the lizard." So far, they've hidden the lizard (instead of having characters talking about The LIzard like the Batman trailers have talked about Bane). They are showcasing the visuals, but they should be selling it as see Spidey in a new way. Same old hero, new story. Instead, it fails to provide an answer to the question -- why are you excited for....?

Exactly, many people asked me what TASM is all about? I was like um it is reboot and it will be much better than before! I just didn't know how to explain that and still do.

:(

hopefully they havent revealed much about the plot and money shots...

I am very happy that they hadn't showed that much.
