Maybe he has Green Lantern on the mind.

The thing is that ASM is directed by a good director & has a lead actor who actually fits the role. Don't get me wrong, I like Ryan Reynolds but he doesn't suit Hal Jordan. He's only right for ONE superhero! :dpl:

Martin Campbell is a good director.

I'm excited about TAS as much as anyone and think it will be a great movie, but...Martin Campbell has made more good movies than Marc Webb has. Just sayin.

For the record, he's also made more mediocre-to-bad ones than Webb, too. He's just made a lot more movies. But the point is, he was a far more proven talent, with loads of good action movie experience. He had already made 3 contemporary classics of the action genre when he signed on for GL.

It's more exciting when it is a rising director, than an experienced one.

Martin Campbell directed some great films...comes onto GL...people go nuts...but look how that turned out.

Better off taking a risk than going with someone experienced, UNLESS THEY HAVE A SPECIFIC VISION. Campbell did not have a vision for GL/studio interference, and that is why that piece of crap failed critically and financially.

Did you see Green Lantern? It felt like more of a business move to get that director rather than getting him for the sake of making a movie that he envisioned.

It was a studio movie. Whereas Raimi had a specific vision...and it worked. Burton had a vision, that worked greatly. Nolan had a vision...obviously worked too. Singer had a vision...it worked for his X-Men films too.

There was no heart or soul in GL. No substance, it just wasn't a good movie.

Campbell is a pretty decent director and I loved Edge of Darkness tbh.

Green Lantern...perhaps it was a combustion off of different visions between Campbell and the three screenwriters.

...There's nothing wrong with you liking it.

Sure, it was a bad movie.

But the Transformers movies are considered bad too, but I and clearly a lot of others love them because they're mindless enjoyment.

The Hype never ceases to fascinate me.

:hehe:
I got repelled by ads to stuff, later enjoyed, don't want to repeat the trend here

Who cares about the science, as long as it looks convincing.
There were shots in the other three movies that were superb, looked completely convincing, and could not have been done practically.
The very deep swing that he takes when chasing Ben's 'killer' in SM1 being one of them, and the swinging over the cop cars at night in SM2, just before his powers give out.

Eggyman has said they are using CGI too, so I am relived at that, I thought they would use some , sure, but I just hope they use enough to keep that sense of his physicality being something supernatural to the eye.
I do not want a movie that relies on those p.o.v. shots when they want to show the superpowers in full flow. I want to see Spider-man onscreen doing those feats, not some 3D carnival ride.

How do you know they could not have been done practically? Where's your proof of this?

I hate mindless enjoyment other than Chris Farley films.

So...the Transformers films sucked, imo.

I thought the last 10-15 minutes of the first Transformers movie was pretty awesome. Loved it when Megatron ripped Jazz in half.

Oh, and Chris Farley FTW.

"Man, he just has the sexiest moves I've ever seen"--Patrick Swayze, SNL skit.

Sure, the final battles in all three films looks pretty amazing, but that's about it.

And Beverly Hills Ninja is like one of my favorite movies to watch if I'm in a bad mood, haha.

I own every Chris Farley movie and I also have his Best Of DVD from SNL. He's hilarious. It was a sad day when I'd learned he had passed.

I do think there's something to this, because an up-and-comer has a lot more to prove. It's their "make it or break it" moment, and they usually have to deliver a great pitch/vision for it in order to win the gig in the first place.

With an established director, you run the risk that they will look at the project as just another paycheck, or of the studio just choosing them because they are a "name."

on the down side an inexperienced director sometimes let's the studio and actors walk all over him.

raimi was an established director and you can tell sony have held him in check for SM1 and released the reigns in SM2 as his style much more evident.
