The guy who wrote that preview article is clearly not that smart. He said a few things that gave me hope, and then again, he said some things that made him look like an idiot. To call Arkham City's combat shallow is by far one of the most outlandish things I've heard. All in all, I still look forward to this game

He probably meant the actual mechanics for fighting. It's one button. Yeah you can counter and dodge, but ultimately, the core of the fighting comes down to one button.

Compared to games like assassins creed where you've got two four-button configurations (8 buttons) at your disposal, yeah I'd say batmans combat is shallow. I wouldn't really use that word due to its negative connotations, but it is.

It's certainly not a complaint (for me at least).

I wouldn't call the combat in AA or AC shallow. Batman can perform a variety of different moves with the use of his gadgets. I know what you are saying tho.

I think the word "Shallow" is a bad way to describe AA/AC's combat. It's moreso "simple".

Yea i think thats a better term. Whatever it is, its wicked fun. Hope ASM can come close to that.

The combat in both Arkham games was at its core, a very simplistic system. True, you have many gadgets at your disposal and the combinations of attacks and counters can be numerous but it's still very simple. It's also a perfect example of how less is actually more because it absolutely nails the dynamic of combat and it is not only extremely fun both also highly rewarding. There's a deep sense of satisfaction that you get from the combat unlike many games that you also can mash one attack button and clear a room with your eyes closed. I kind of get what that reviewer was saying but he also miscommented on MGS, so I would take it with a grain of salt...ya know. If the combat in TASM is anywhere near as stimulating and pleasing as Arkham, I'll be one happy Webhead.

cool interview with Dee Brown (head of Beenox)

The game really is sounding like it has the potential to be the Spidey game we have all been waiting for. Beenox is deff saying all the right things.

Web Rush seems to be EXACTLY the type of system I have long said needs to be included. We've never been able to get Spidey from point A to point B in a Spidey like fashion, except for ur standard web swing. Iv long desired to see him jump, flip and vault off objects in the environment and that hasn't been possible in previous games. Can not wait to see that in motion

Im still not sure if ill pick this up at launch(which is looking more likely with each new preview) or wait until iv seen the film first. I mean i guess the game can't really spoil us that much. We all know Spidey fights the Lizard and defeats the Lizard in the film, so what can the game really tell us that we dont already know?

"Manhattan will evolve as the story progress". Looking forward to see how they do it, same goes with how they handle the car chase

I agree on "Beenox saying all the right things" part to a certain degree

That was a really good interview, it's good to see that they didn't want to go down the road of producing the same game over and over again. He made some good points about keeping things fresh. I'm really starting to get that feeling that this is gonna be the next gen Spider-Man 2 game, its really got alot going for itself in terms of gameplay, and since this game is occurring after the events of the film, we may be blown away by some of the rogues they decide to use, hopefully Shocker makes it :awesome:

Do you expect Schultz as Shocker if used or someone else in the vein of TSSM? I wouldn't mind someone different

I love what he says about the Web Rush and Web Rush Retreat!

Also, about Shocker, Herman Schultz is the only Shocker IMO. I really didn't like how TSSM made it Montana instead

I wouldn't really care. Montana is pretty obscure and Herman Schultz is a complete, replacable nobody.

Actually, scratch that. At least Montana could give a nice Southern accent. Schultz is still worthless. :cwink:

Schultz >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Montana :o

I agree and what's interesting is how different the interviews sound between EoT and those about TASM. With TASM, there is a definite positive vibe coming from the members of Beenox and they seem to be truly excited about this game and what it has to offer. With EoT, all they really ever talked about was the new attack abilities (hypersense and decoy) and the story, for the most part anyway. Now with TASM they talk about every aspect much like a proud papa talks about his new baby. I think Beenox is proud of what they've accomplished and cannot wait to finally show it off.

I'm picking this up day one for sure.

Edit: The only spoilers I can think of is that since this game takes place after the events of the movie, we know that Spider-man survives the film. This is pretty obvious though, since they've confirmed a release date for the sequel. The other spoiler involves the Lizard. He(Dr. Connors) was mentioned in a couple of interviews/previews to be shown in this game, which tells me that at some point in the movie Spider-man possibly cures him of his "curse" and restores him to human form.

I also like how Dee said that this game pretty much blows all the previous Spidey games away. Shocker is always a fun villain. I wouldn't mind seeing him at all.

this game is in 'day one purchase" territory with me, I'm liking the confidence that the developers have with their product, especially hearing it from them verbally all the changes that they are making in the game for the better. I also hope with this game, it doesn't stop there, I want them to keep constantly evolving the gameplay with each game. Hopefully, this game does well and we get a 616 Spidey game using alot of the same elements plus new ones that can go head to head with Arkham Asylum, that would be the icing on the cake for me. I love ya Bats, but Spidey....just look at him

One other thing I liked about the interview is how you have instant access to the entire city and can begin free roaming immediately. I also liked the part in which Dee stated that the available missions in the game progress as the story progresses. In the beginning you'll have petty crimes to stop along with back alley thugs and then it opens up to car chases and bank robberies. Cool stuff.

Not sure if this is true but I think Beenox is also working on another game yet to be revealed. Maybe it's the 616 game?

This may sound strange, I would really like for Beenox to work on a Daredevil game. Spidey has his dark elements at times, but his games are not really dark in tone. I think Daredevil would be great, Beenox is currently proving what all they can do with Spidey, so it would be great to let them go all out on Daredevil, it's time we get a dark gritty Marvel game that isn't an obvious character like The Punisher.

That doesn't sound strange at all, in fact it sounds like a good idea. If TASM is as successful a game as I hope, as WE hope, it will most likely open the door for Beenox to work on more games and rightly so. Given their love of Spidey and the care in which they've handled him and his mythos, I'd love to see them work on other superheroes. Daredevil is a really neat choice and I wouldn't mind seeing what they do for him.

This is exactly what I want. TASM sounds like everything I want in a Spider-Man game except it being 616, and it makes it hard for me to get fully excited. If the second team at Beenox released a 616 game that took all the positives from TASM (and used the groundwork) and added new stuff to it, I would probably cry from happiness. (Well, not really. But you get the idea.)
