SM2 allowed for some serious hilarity like that. I enjoyed taking a guy up to the top of the Empire State building and then pile driving him all the way down into the pavement...or just chucking him off to top. It was pretty freaking funny.

Something spidey would do? no way...fun/funny? absolutely.

Hell yeah, also I remember webbing up enemies and throwing them in the water, instant win :woot:

Haha. Yeah I don't know if we'll be able to throw guys off roof tops, pile drive them into the ground from 70 stories up, or even web guys and toss them into the water. It's sure pretty fun but it also sounds fun to be able to web guys to the floor, walls, and ceiling.

I did the same thing everytime a thug really pissed me off.
I used to say that it was a ''special treatment''. I missed it in all the other games.

Well with as much as they've expanded on everything from previous games in this new game, I'm pretty sure there will be alot funny things to occur. Ragdoll physics alone can create laughter

Dee said on his twitter that they won't allow you to knock thugs of buildings because "Spidey wouldn't allow that."

On another note, two magazine previews.

The first one is decent preview(Aside from calling Spidey a mutant). The second one is the first negative preview.

Ah! Screw what Spidey would do!
I would do that!

I like how they try to diss the developers for using the same mechanics that can be seen in the Batman games. Seriously, what's wrong with that? I won't even began to name the countless third person shooters that mimic Gears of War in some way, not too mention the wide abundance of action games that have Quick Time Events similar to God of War, oooooh oooh ooooh and lets not forgot about the over populating of first person shooter games that mimic each other, even going so far back to start the franchise off as WWII shooter and nowadays, they're all set in Modern Day.....smh, the things people say to try and knock a game

And take a look at how many open world games emerged since GTA 3 hit the scene!?!?!?!?! Damn near everyone and their mom was trying to produce something similar. This is Spider-Man that we're talking about, certain innovations help the character, and he has his own preset limits, I seriously don't know what more they were looking for out of the game, hell I just want it to be good, screw Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time, this game has to not only surpass those 2 games, but it has to surpass SM3 as well (Hi Spider-Aziz)

It doesnt matter what you would do, you aren't controlling you. Its why it has no business being in the game and only cheapens the experience of controlling Spider-Man. Same reason why Rocksteady would not let you kill thugs in Asylum and City. If Beenox has the same affection for Spidey as RS does for Bats, they'll follow suit.

Yea i think thats really stupid. Damn near every video game playing Spidey fan has asked for the next spidey game to be similar to AA and AC in terms of what worked for those titles. Now it looks as tho we might get that and some people b***h. I honestly dont expect this to be any where near the level of polish as those two titles, but the closer it plays to AA and AC, the happier ill be.

Same here, and the combat in Arkham City worked really good in an open environment, the sky was the limit, but you still had a great deal of control over the character. Can't tell ya how many times I've gotten into scuffles on the older Spidey games and wound up somewhere I didn't want to be. If you're gonna take gameplay mechanics from other more successful games for the sake of your title delivering what fans want, by all means DO IT!!!!

Not everyone is going to like something but I wonder how much credit to give this preview, when every other preview, save minus one or two neutral ones, was outright positive. Anyone who is expecting TASM to have the same level of polish as AC is probably expecting too much but the game has been in development for quite a while so I do expect there to be a much better level of quality than past Spidey games. But again, everything that was seen in AC, referencing the camera, combat, free roam, etc. are things that we have been calling for in a Spider-man game. Now that we get it, people are bashing that aspect. What gives?? I bet this same preview writer would say the exact same thing had they not copied the Arkham mechanics for TASM. He'd probably say something like, "Beenox once again is looking to not deliver on a Spidey game. AC has proven what works in a superhero game and they're not following those techniques so the game is not gonna be good." Eh, whatever. Can't please everyone. Where is that web rush trailer? Seriously.

Agreed. What better way to make something than to take the best of what's already out there, and not only try to emulate it, but try to improve upon it.

You have to give it just as much credit to that preview as you do others. I mean no one has played the game yet. Activision and Beenox are only showing the title they aren't letting people actually play it themselves. There are a few drawbacks to copying elements from the Arkham games. I mean dont get me wrong, i am ALL for them borrowing elements from those games but Beenox needs to be careful. If they dont do those elements as well as AA or AC people will notice and state how the games mechanics dont live up to the Arkham series. I mean the comparisons will be there any way as EVERY superhero title has to live up to those games but considering how ASM is borrowing so heavily from them, its got a little more pressure on it.

IMO, I think critics are gonna target this game just because of the spotty track record that Spider-Man games have had in the past, it sux, but you can't really fault them for it. They did the same damn thing before Arkham Asylum came out, it caught everyone by surprise and now the game has become the new bar for superhero games. I think all of us who post in this thread day by day are big time Spidey fans, we only want the best for the character. I honestly feel that Beenox is really trying to do something big with this release because yes, this is yet another Spider-Man game coming out, and the one thing that makes it differ from the rest is that the film that the game is based on is a reboot. I think the stance that Beenox is taking is that since they are rebooting the franchise, why not reboot the game as well from a technical standpoint?

Right now, the one good Spider-Man game alot of us have to go by is Shattered Dimensions, and yes, it served its purpose and did well, but now, we are getting a free roam game. As of yet, no one has actually had a hands on demo with the game, so everyone is taking it from a "what we see from our POV" take on it, I think it's safe to say that we'll be satisfied with the final product, it might not be the next Arkham City, but it'll definitely be the one Spidey game that we want to keep in our collection, unless you're like ProjectPat and have like every game known to man lol jk Pat:yay:

Then it will be impossible to let the robbery cars go away, or to just ignore some bank heist, for example, because Spidey wouldn't do that either.

We didn't kill anyone either in SM2 and we could do all of those moves. It was one of the many ways to defeat someone.
If I can control Spidey and I'm able to web up someone, then I should very well be able to climb a building and jump from up there with him, because Spidey can do that. If he won't, that's up to me, because I'm controlling him. The same way that I can just let the car with the thieves go away. It's my decision.

I can understand taking the piledrive away because that's a move Spidey wouldn't do. But, webbing enemies and throwing them in the water? Didn't Spidey ever threw anyone in the water? Electro comes to mind.

Youre missing the point. Spider-Man doesn't kill people. Period. He doesn't throw people off of buildings. Having a car or thief get away from him is in NO way the same thing as tossing a thug to his death. Thankfully Beenox recognizes this and that will not be possible in this game.

I think Beenox is under a tremendous amount of pressure because they will have no excuses left if this game does not deliver. You're correct though, no matter what they do this game will be compared to the Arkham games because that's the way it goes. It doesn't matter what field we're talking about, there is always a quality benchmark that the newest item gets compared. I also think that even if the mechanics do Spidey justice there will still be people hating on the game and saying it isn't as good as Arkham's mechanics. Just sayin. I don't agree with that line of thought but it still exists. It still sucks though cause we can't really judge for ourselves until we see the gameplay footage and then all the reviews we've been reading will actually have some weight to them.

There are 8 million people on a 13 mile stretch of Manhattan...Spidey can't stop every crime that occurs. He's pretty awesome but he can't be in two or more places at once.

he may have thrown Electro in the water but he also pulls him out. Spidey doesn't kill people...he subdues them and turns them over to the police, basically.

This may be a bit off topic, but if they used the city detail from Prototype, that's pretty fantastic, I'm playing through Prototype too and the level of detail is pretty good, despite all the chaos that is going on from my actions lol

The city detail for TASM looks pretty good from what we've seen in screenshots and the trailers. How's Prototype 2?

I never said anything about killing. Just that, with his powers, and with everything he is capable of doing, we can do that. Unless they start using invisible walls to prevent me throwing them or they just didn't program any web throw movement in this game.

There's a difference between what he can do and what he should do. Same for Batman in AA and AC. I can, for example, as Batman, stand in front of armed thugs and just stay still. I shouldn't do this because this isn't what Batman would do, but it doesn't mean I can't. We had the tools to feel like Batman, so, when we used them, we felt like Batman. I expect the same for TASM, but it doesn't mean I'll act like him all the time. I just want to have the tools to feel like him. The rest is up to me.

Certainly. What I mean is one that is happening right in front of me. Like in SM2. I could very well just let the car go away. Stay still. I'd lose the mission, but life would go on. The game didn't reset or anything. I'd just lose some points. That's not acting like Spidey, but we can do that. We shouldn't, but we can.

Again with ''killing'' people. I don't know where you guys are getting that from. Also, it's not like throwing people in the water kills them.

It's not that bad, plays pretty much like the first game, maybe a little bit more "controlled" in some areas. One gripe through, not feeling the stereotypical angry black guy, this guy has been dropping the f-bomb left right relentlessly. The game is pretty cool though pretty good. Traded in a few games that I had no intent on ever playing again and got this bad boy for like 15 bucks.

15 dollars?? Nice. I just read the review at IGN and they gave it a 7/10. It's funny though that one of the complaints they had was about the "angry black guy" cussing every other word.

With the safety net thing I guess I was supposed to expect that about tossing thugs off of buildings

I don't like all those robots and futuristic looking enemies with metallic suits. They are not interesting and I'm sure that we don't see any kind of those in the movie. Why they have to be in the game?
