The Amazing Spider-Man v.2 - Part 2

So... I think I'm gonna be buying Avenging Spider-Man. There was a free preview at my comic shop this week and it was actually very entertaining. Zeb Wells knows the characters' voices well and his dialogue is often hilarious. Plus, as much as I hate to admit it of a guy who was chronically lazy and eventually abandoned comics altogether to flit about in the video game industry, Joe Mad's still got it. His art is as exciting and dynamic as ever. Plus, I don't have just Spider-Man to deal with, what with the Avengers constantly around as supporters, so it's a lot easier to tune out any references to Spider-Man's ******ed post-"One More Day" status quo. Besides, I quit Spider-Man comics completely for 4 years due to "One More Day." I think I've borne that cross long enough.

Gonna be weird to be a regular Spider-Man reader again...

Sell-out

Nah, I kid. Spidey has been great as of late. It was good to hear you giving Flash-Venom a try, and its great to hear you giving ASM a try. But the angrie-smilie stays

Hmmm...well, it seems that this new Scarlet Spider schtick may be real and that they may be bringing Ben back but this is just speculation. In ASM 671 [blackout] Kaine has been cured. Not only is he no longer the Tarantula, he's also a perfect clone of Peter. No more scars or veins or rotting flesh, and the artists have stopped drawing him as a huge muscular guy so he has the exact frame as Peter, or BEN REILLY. He also seems to be so damn happy with his new lease on life as his hate for Peter seems gone. Guess Kaine will be adopting Ben's name and super-hero alias soon...[/blackout]

Dude, Kaine is not Ben Reilly. If he does decide to be some new Spider-Guy, I hope he stays Kaine and doesn't try to steal Ben's identity.

Maybe not... but as a clone of Peter Parker, Kaine being the Scarlet Spider is as close as Ben Reilly as the fans may get... and while it may not be the "original" Ben Reilly, as a clone of Peter Parker, that would be a pretty sweet deal to all the Clone Saga/Ben Reilly fans... if a book is spun out of this... with the right writer, we could be looking at the next "Venom" phenom as far a Spider-Man spin-off is concerned...

Awesome... I look forward to this book as well... being a BIG fan of the original Marvel Team-Up...

If Wells sticks on the book for a couple of years, it could do very well...

:yay:

Marvel just found another way to add an additional Spiderman book while having a hook.

Better than just putting out ASM multiple times per month. At least this way different people can choose whatever Spider-Man comic suits them.

I give it less than a year before Corp is buying ASM. Step right up and place yer bets!:cwink:

Nah, I still have no desire whatsoever to get back into ASM. The Avengers are a big part of my interest in Avenging Spider-Man. The banter elevates all the characters under a great writer of dialogue. Even Rulk plays off of Spider-Man well. :)

The foundation already has a crack in it.

Did I mention that Camuncoli is officially in the ASM rotation as an artist? I'm pretty sure Avenging Spider-Man is bi-monthly, you'll need your fix once you get a taste of the Spidey heroin! JUNKIE!!! BWAHAHAHAHA!

Nah, I'm good. I got Avenging Spider-Man and Venom. Set. You can take your random-ho-dating Spider-Man and make like a tree and get the hell out of here. :oldrazz:

I can't wait until the day when I can quote my post in the thread where you declare your undying love for ASM again. :woot:

Anyway, part 5 of Spider-Island was the best of the event thus far. Slott crammed a ton of great s**t into this issue.
Kaine is now a full on duplicate of Peter and well on his way to the Scarlet Spider mantle. Anti-Venom is gone, sacrificing his suit to save the infected, thanks to Reed Richards and the mysterious #6 who was the person NOBODY predicted........[BLACKOUT]Morbius[/BLACKOUT]. Hell of a job keeping that a surprise Dan, take a bow.

So in spite of being prominently featured on the cover and emphasized in the solicitation, Mary Jane only has one scene in this issue. Talk about a let down. Hopefully, though, it looks like she going to do a whole lot more next issue.

That being said, there was lots of great developments here. Kudos to Slott for having Number 6 be Morbius, that was a very nice surprise and makes a ton of sense in hindsight. Also am really glad seeing Spidey's spider-sense be restored, so those who said it was going to happen during this story were right on the money. And now that Kaine is cured both of his man-spider mutation AND clone degeneration, seems very likely he's set-up to be the new Scarlet Spider now.

And yeah, given how insanely powerful the Queen supposedly is now, I'm guessing Spidey will wind up having no choice but to kill her. Cause anytime a villain reaches "God Mode," there's no where else to go BUT down. Then again, Kaine could always kill her since, technically he, being Peter's clone, fulfills Julia Carpenter/Madame Web's vision.

And yes, Julia, you made a really stupid move. Which is par for the course since a lot of this mess could have easily been avoided if she wasn't all "I can see the future and I know exactly what will happen! Only I'm only going to give you cryptic warnings instead of concrete information that might actually help." :oldrazz:

Madame Web has always been a pain in the ass, no matter who she is. It goes with the territory.

These kind of things are why I really don't care about Madame Webb. She annoyed me in the animated series as a kid, and she's already annoying from what I have read of Spider-Island. She has no place in Spider-Man stories.

Her place has always to be annoying. I think if you ask anybody that's ever written her since her introduction, they would say it's a big part of the character to be annoying to readers and Spider-Man. But Spidey, as we all know, can't turn a blind eye (no pun intended) to something. He did it once and the results were fatal.

The idea that Julia could somehow be slotted in as the new Madame Web is stupid to begin with. Madame Web was one character, Julia Carpenter was another. Killing the former and having the latter literally take her place by going blind and attempting to act like a perfect clone of her is an insult to both.

Yeah, they could have kept her more humanized instead of making her a fortune telling robot like the other old bag.

I don't understand what Madame Web being annoying has to do with Uncle Ben dying because Peter looked the other way.

Agreed.
