The Avengers The Avengers Critics Reviews Thread - Part 3

Boston Phoenix is my favorite paper from Boston. Kind of the hip, trendy, uber-liberal read that I thought would go positive. Eh... It's still kicking all sorts of butt critically so whatever LOL!!

I'm hoping the negatives are few and far between. Although the negatives really aren't completely that. I thought WSJ's would be a borderline positive.

Ann Hornaday's review hasn't been added. There's still quite a few to add.

Yeah, I don't think the SF Chronicle's been added either.

WSJ review really is all over the map. Rereading it he does have a lot of problems, but also calls it fitfully enjoyable, fun, says he likes Downey's performance, he likes the humor, he likes the heroes clashing with each other, he likes Evans, he likes Hemsworth. Doesn't like ScarJo and is one of the few not to like Ruffalo. He has the same familiar problems with the dull first hour (I disagree), and the Transformers-esque ending (I disagree, but less vehemently). It still feels like a lean positive to me, but I guess not to RT.

What movie has the most reviews on RT? Is it Star Trek?

Avengers at a 92% now.

That was my prediction in that RT meter thread. Hope I'm wrong though and it ends at 94%. :o

All of the big city newspapers are giving Avengers a positive rating, so I expect the rating to go back up. There are a few Top Critics that haven't but updated yet either. The mathmatics of RT is pretty tough though. Any rotten score seems to account for one percentage point! Like I said earlier, it would be stunning if this movie could stay about 90%. Even about 85% would be a suprise given all the troll critiques like the Chicago Reader ontop of the spiteful NYC reviewers (NYT, VV, WSJ, etc.).

Sure looks like it. For now at least. I'm guessing it'll be about 250-270 total for TA and I think I'm being conservative.

Guys, its been fun hanging here and watching all the goings on and such. But Ive pretty much read all the reviews i want to read, and it is now time to take the plunge myself. After ive seen the Avengers (twice) this weekend, Ill post my thoughts in response thread and pop my head in here for a last farewell.

They would have liked the movie more if Loki was played by Dick Cheney and Obama was cast as Nick Fury.

Yeah it's down to 92% but it has an average rating of 8.0 while Iron Man has a 94% with an average of 7.6. TDK 94% with 8.4.

In the opinion of those that have seen the film...

Do the negative reviews actually have merit, or are they mostly bashing the film for being an action-oriented blockbuster?

Heh, well, even if it balloons up to 40 negative and there are a total of 280 that's 86%, so I'd be very surprised if it ended up at 85%.

I believe The Dark Knight has the most reviews.

Yeah, I don't this dipping below 90. Will almost certainly end up in the 90-94 range, which is incredible for a blockbuster (someone posted a stat the other day that only 7 non-animated blockbusters have done that in the last 12 years).

To be completely honest, the only thing that the reviews are right IMO is the thin plot. Everything else the critics are wrong.

I'll bet Amy What's-her-nuts is sad to see all these other 'rottens' appear. For a few days there she probably felt like the most important person in the world :woot:.
