The guy in the cape looks like Thors stand in...

The main reason Downey looks older in the Avengers is because Whedon opted out in dying RDJ hair entirely.

This was barely an issue in IM and IM2 because his hair was dyed entirely brown. Not a big deal anyway as Downey still looks pretty good in the Avengers despite a set of gray hair.

Its not just the hair. Out of respect for the guy, I'm not gonna go as far as posting up a side-by-side comparison of how he looked in '07 to how he looks in the trailer. He still looks like a convincing yet weathered Stark in The Avengers. Its just gonna be downhill from here on out. IM3 won't be much of a difference. But Avengers 2? Again, think Bruce Willis in everything he's done since he lost his hair completely. I just can't take the guy seriously for a second. I can't picture Tony not lookin' good. I don't want to.

They can just airbrush him then.

If the movies do well they will keep trying to bring Downey back.

So if this really is one of the aliens, from "The Assembly Begins" featurette for Cap blu-ray, we can assume it has dreads.

And judging from the scars on Cap's mask, they may have nails (lol bare with me)

It looks to me like the "alien" is wearing a cape rather than dreads. I could be wrong, though.

Well the way that Tom described the invaders, he used the term "gangsters" of the cosmos and such; but from the looks of their weaponry and smashed vehicles, they look more organized than a intergalactic mob if you ask me.lol

It would be cool if Loki's army all had a differentiate look; nothing too complicated, but something that would catch the eye instead of just having them all share the same look like most of the battle droids or clone troopers from Star Wars.lol

See, that 'gangsters' comment always has me thinking. Did he mean a ragtag mob or was he just saying it in a jokey way? Or does he mean something else?

I think what Tom was saying is that they're basically the alien equivalent of the Mafia, a group of alien thugs hellbent on aggressive, senseless behavior.

I'm still standing by my theory that it's going to be Gremlins and Purple Smurfs though.

I still do hope that these "invaders" won't just be presented as mindless aliens who just blast things up and such.

I want them to be presented as intimidating looking beings with the ability to stand out.

It would just disappoint me personally, if they were presented in the same manner that the armies in Star Wars are presented in.

So does that make Cap 'Big Papa Smurf'?

I don't know, I think Odin would fill that position better because he's the one with the beard and a position of power.

I think whatever alien menace we get will be 100% awesome. Just keep a positive attitude and hope for the best. Patience is the key here.

whedon has used so many monsters over the years from Buffy and angel. I'm sure it won't be hard for him to come up with an alien army.

Who knows, maybe Whedon fans will be getting a little Firefly/Serenity Easter Egg in this movie. ;)

I think the guy Fury's fighting looks more like the soldiers escorting Loki than a dreadlocked alien.

Maybe they were Skrulls the whole time?

:wow: Hell no! They need to either add others in the sequel or replace some of the ones already in this film. Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther Etc all deserve their due in the Avengers Line-up on screen IMO.

Edit: And Vision!!!

Bring in the Pym's and/or Black Panther.
:up::up:

Then replace away, I'd trade Black Widow for Wasp or Ms. Marvel Etc. Etc. anyday I would probably even trade hawkeye for Ant-Man, Black Panther, Vision.
I wouldn't trade Hawkeye for the simple fact that he's such a huge part of the team's history. Sure proof of that is in the comics but more recently on A:EMH. He's perfect in that. The show's creators have even mentioned that you can't have The Avengers without Hawkeye. Which is why I'm hoping he breaks through in the film with someone like Renner playing him.

Hawkeye's also going to get a massive push in 2012. He's going to be in a lot of books.

For the sequel I wouldn't be surprised if the core team returns with two new additions. Start off slow with proper introductions.

Regarding the potential roster change, I think 4 films is enough for Tony Stark. Same goes for Banner with 3 (even if Universal's HULK doesn't count in this continuity, to the GA it does). How long can RDJ play this guy? The man's gettin' old & I don't want Tony turning into the Roger Moore 007. I also don't want them to recast the character. After IM3, I say just let Tony fade out. Have him in cameos in future films, maybe even make him Director of SHIELD down the line. Just retire him from "active duty" so younger, less exposed Avengers can get some game time. I really think the GA won't miss Tony in the next Avengers flick with guys like Black Panther & Doctor Strange on the team.

Nonsense.

No way in hell does Marvel bench their #1(MCU)/#2(overall) character just because RDJ is getting old.

Look what happened with X-Men: First Class with no Wolverine.

Avengers 2 would take a HUGE hit if there was no Iron Man.

pointless statement
Just look at what happened to Wolverine Origins(of all things) with wolverine.

Everyone and their mother know the circumstances behind what happened there and it goes way beyond lack of jackman. If we get 2 or 3 back to back green lantern/xmen origins high caliber flops out of marvel RDJ can do this shtick till the cows come home it won't make a difference. (lest you hire nolan or cameron or someone of their ilk).

That being said, Stark is their guy right now and when RDJ is done, which will be soon, they will recast him. It goes without saying that Marvels have no qualms about recasting.

Hawkeye could well become more prominent in a sequel.

If we're talking two new additions I'd love Vision and Black Panther.

RDJ will be done when he wants to be. They can always use CGI to de-age him (and I'm willing to bet they already did that as early as the first Iron Man).

That said, yeah, I agree that Marvel will sooner recast the role than retire the character.

I say keep the whole team. Just have most members be busy with other things but they are in the movie. Introduce Panther & Ant-Man & Wasp & then hint / maybe introduce Vision but not to much of a role

Got to agree with this!!! If MARVEL leaves RDJ as Tony Stark/IRON MAN out of THE AVENGERS sequel that's tantamount to an act of madness and franchise self sabotage.

With all due respect Alexei you are projecting your issues onto the franchise. RDJ is cinematic gold; his lines and delivery in the teaser trailer are priceless! He has already sold this movie just as much as any VFX or money shot.

MARVEL needs to get this man a new contract asap and not be stingy; give the man what he wants to stay on board.

If I were to modofy the line-up for THE AVENGERS sequel I would be tempted to take out HULK, HAWKEYE, and BLACK WIDOW, and bring in BLACK PANTHER, GOLIATH (Giant Man/Henry Pym; Goliath is just a less corny name) and THE WASP. But this would depend heavily on what the GA response to each individual character. It would also be unwise to take out characters that the audience have strongly connected with just to rotate the roster.

I'd be okay with Black Widow and Hulk taking a break in Avengers 2. I don't care about Hank Pym as much, but the franchise needs Wasp, so I suppose he'll have to tag along. They'll need him for the eventual Ultron storyline anyway.

Iron Man is Marvel's most bankable film character. They will keep him in Avengers 2-3 if RDJ will do them, and pay him whatever he wants. I think after IM3, he may not have anymore solo films, but that won't stop his Avengers appearances. Will RDJ start looking old? Maybe, but Stark wears a suit of armor. He can look older than Cap or Thor and it won't matter. His powers are not physical. They're artificial. Him looking a bit older will be fine.
