Just speaking for myself, I came into the Marvel world for Iron Man, and I'm in this mostly for Iron Man. If he leaves, my own hype will be reduced by 75%. I can imagine that I'm not alone in this.

I guess I'm watching this movie mostly because of Thor and Loki, but Cap and Ironman are also in the mix as well. Plus the action looks like it's going to be pretty good.

At the very least if they take members out of the Sequel have them show up for the final battle to help out

I'm liking what I've heard from a dialogue standpoint already. It's gotta be pretty snappy and quick like that. I know Bendis and Whedon kinda come from the same camp regarding that so it feels more like the current Avengers run.

I have to say since his movie I have developed a real soft spot for CAPTAIN AMERICA. I was never a fan of his from the comics as I prefer comedic characters (like Nightcrawler used to be and Longshot in X-men) and bad-@$$es (like Gambit, Wolvie, Bishop, etc.). But the movie made me really appreciate the character and I am looking forward to see CA kick some serious @$$!

Other than this THOR and HULK mega-action, and RDJ in his Tony Stark persona are the things I'm most looking forward to.

Iron Man is Marvel's most bankable film character. They will keep him in Avengers 2-3 if RDJ will do them, and pay him whatever he wants. I think after IM3, he may not have anymore solo films, but that won't stop his Avengers appearances. Will RDJ start looking old? Maybe, but Stark wears a suit of armor. He can look older than Cap or Thor and it won't matter. His powers are not physical. They're artificial. Him looking a bit older will be fine.

I agree with most of this apart from the balded area. The audience still needs to believe that is RDJ/Tony Stark in the Iron Man suit. I'm not that clued up on what the suit can do, but as far as i know, it doesn't enhance his reflexes or speed. Sure, he can use his blasters and rockets all the time, but someday, that's just going to get boring.

That's what I liked about his films so far, it showed he is vulnerable outside of the suit, and he can still put up a fight if he has to (such as the first encounter with Whiplash). Take that away, and there's no need to care about his survival anymore.

I'm glad the Avengers are still pitting him against the odds with and without a suit.

I always got the impression that built into Iron Man's suit was the idea that it could give him power-assisted movement. What I probably DON'T believe is that a suit heavy enough to break through his own roof and total a car is something that he's making walk with the strength of his muscles alone. Perhaps they would have to make that power-assisted aspect more explicit, but I'd buy it as an explanation to offset a Tony Stark who's getting older.

I think the guy Fury's fighting looks more like the soldiers escorting Loki than a dreadlocked alien.

Maybe they were Skrulls the whole time?

Haven't people been speculating that Black Widow, and possibly other Avengers, will come under Loki's mind control?

If that's possible (which I agree with, and I think it seems likely), then it seems VERY likely to me that Loki's (assumed) break-out from the Helicarrier might start with and be assisted by his mind-controlling his former guards, the SHIELD agents who brought him in.

So that could be the easy explanation for why Fury is fighting his own guys -- they're being mind-controlled to help Loki escape.

^That's possible too. I think I'd actually prefer that unless they're actually going to address the alien race as Skrulls and not some no-name entity.

I've heard alot of good things about the scene they showed.
Thats very encouraging.

Several of the Bond actors played the character into their 50's, so I see no reason why Downey couldn't do the same if he wanted. He's in great shape, and because he's into marshall arts, he always stays in great shape. To me it's not a big problem.

I've been in a post vacation depression lately, didn't think at all I was going to have as much fun as I did. And the Avengers panel...

...TAKE ME BACK! Glad I will have stories to tell people and my kids one day about this. Because we all know this film is a groundbreaking mark in the cinematic world, not just comic book movie/comic book world.

Its not like playing Tony Stark is that physical. If they need to they could also avoid RDJ actually in the suit if they want

For me it's always been about Hulk & Iron Man. Those are the only superhero characters I've ever considered myself a true fan of. Now I enjoy movies based on other characters sure but even their best movies weren't able to make me a fan of them as characters. I just enjoy a good superhero movie sometimes as it is my favorite genre of film. But add Hulk and/or Iron Man to the mix and my anticipation goes to the next level. Hulk a little more so than Iron Man since Hulk's always been my #1 to Iron Man's #2.

I started reading Marvel comics and the Avengers in the mid 60's.....I have seen many many different heroes come and go from the Avengers lineup.....so variety doesn't bother me in the least.

I'm also thinking that especially in the case of Black Panther the next Avengers movie should set him up for his own solo movie venture and feature him more. It's just a shame that Fox still has the X-Men rights because of Storm being his wife and all. It would have been nice to see Halle Berry get a beefed up role as Storm taking a break from the X-Men in the Black Panther movie.

I know exactly how to address the RDJ/Iron Man aging problem!

!!!!EXTREMIS!!!!!

If no one knows what I'm talking about then I'll summarize it for you, but I honestly feel it's the perfect direction for IM's future. RDJ would still have to stay in shape, sure, but it's definitely doable.

AB, I think the most physical the role gets for him is when he has to wear the armor piece for an extended period of time. I want to say it weighed anywhere from 50 to 70 extra pounds when he and Cheadle had to wear it on set. But again, I keep thinking about the Sherlock franchise. Guy Ritchie is a very physical director and I don't think he's afraid at all to throw his actors in the most ridiculous situations conceivable. If RDJ has got it in him to do a Sherlock 3 then I honestly do think he can handle future Avengers films. Although, I wouldn't mind his role changing up a bit in the future. Becoming a SHIELD director wouldn't be terrible.

The dialogue in the description sounds great, if you ask me. I think we're in safe hands.

And I think that's normal to have a relatively few characters who...I dunno, just speak to you on a level that others simply don't. And given the structure of something like the Marvel Universe you don't need more than that to get quite familiar with the whole mythos. You read character XYZ's books long enough and you'll get a passing familiarity with the rest as their paths cross. I've never read a Cap, Spidey, X-Men, FF or Thor comic all the way through yet I'm familiar enough with them with the whole mythos osmosis thing going on. Which is why I have always loved the Marvel U. Hopefully similar things can happen as a side effect of the interconnected universe deal they have going on.

Only thing that i dislike about the idea of replacing one hero with another is that i wanna see them all on screen together. lol

pointless statement
Just look at what happened to Wolverine Origins(of all things) with wolverine.

Everyone and their mother know the circumstances behind what happened there and it goes way beyond lack of jackman. If we get 2 or 3 back to back green lantern/xmen origins high caliber flops out of marvel RDJ can do this shtick till the cows come home it won't make a difference. (lest you hire nolan or cameron or someone of their ilk).

That being said, Stark is their guy right now and when RDJ is done, which will be soon, they will recast him. It goes without saying that Marvels have no qualms about recasting.

Wolverine Origins still made an ass load of money even though First Class was the better film.

And I agree that they'll recast him as soon as RDJ is done, but Iron Man is far from being done in the movies.
