Soooo, next topic....To 3D or not to 3D. I fully intend to see this both ways, but should I see it in 3D first or not? I can't decide. Recommendations?

I'm lucky enough to live literally within sight of an IMAX theater, so I'll see it in 3D first. Then we'll go see it in 2D, and in RealD. I'll be shocked if I don't see The Avengers at least ten times before it ends its run. :word:

For some reason the 2D theaters at the multiplex are run-down and have crummy seats that don't recline well. All of the 3D ones have great seats with high backs that recline and have plenty of leg room. I suppose that when they upgraded the technology they also redid the seating. That's a consideration for me, however, since I want to be comfy whilst being blown away by a great movie.

same here man I have an XD 3d theater nearby, and i already got my tickets...

I'll see it in 2d first, then in 3D.

Sadly there's no IMAX near me. :( The more I think about it, I may see it in 2D first. Then go back the next day for 3D.

There's an IMAX near home for me, but I'll be at school when the movie comes out and all we have there is a junky theater. (it has normal 3D there.. i saw Lion King w/ some friends :) ) but last time i went to see a movie in XD 3D or w/e it was too loud in there it almost got kinda annoying

There is no 2D screenings in my city at all. WTF, i'm not waiting!

By the way, only in Marvel stories the name of Loki's father is Laufey.

In Norse mythology, howevery, Laufey is the name of Loki's mother. And Loki's father is a giant named Farbauti.

I think in their early years the marvel authors mistook Laufey for a male name and never corrected it once that name was established for Loki's father.

I think Stan Lee either made a mistake or decided he liked Laufey better. Not like it mattered, since the comics were never meant to be literal representations of the myths.

Someone here asked a few hours ago what Loki wants to do in Germany.

I'd say he could...
a) go to Stuttgart Opera to watch "Der Ring des Nibelungen":woot:
b) search for the Red Skull's old base of operations in Germany in order to find the Tesseract.
c) Could do both a) and b)

Just not the Ultimate Valkyrie, never liked that one!

The Ultimate Groupie who Thor randomly was obsessed with was such a horrible twist to the character. More so under Loeb than under Millar has to be said.

I'm undecided. The only reason I would agree is because of the "new found power" comment. And then the guard shocked to find himself kneeling. Then he turns and makes everyone else do it too. If he was so powerful before Germany, then why so much trouble escaping with cube? He wouldn't have needed Hawkeye and Selvig if he could control everyone, just pop in and walk out! lol

I had resolutely avoided reading the storybook pages until now, even though I saved all of them. The information revealed does support the theory that Loki either
found the Mind Gem in Stuttgart or some other artifact that allowed him to control the minds of the people there.

Many of us had speculated that the blue gem in Loki's staff was the Mind Gem months ago, when the set photos of Hiddleston in costume with the staff first surfaced online. With the official storybook asserting that Loki's ability to influence the minds of others was new and first manifested in Germany, the speculation the he acquired the Mind Gem there gains a bit more credence. It could well be that the Infinity Gauntlet and/or the Gems were somehow dispersed on Earth and Loki came to claim them. Maybe he's bargaining with the "larger threat" Whedon said will be teased at the end of the film (presumably Thanos) using the Gems and Gauntlet as a lure. That's what a lot of fans have speculated and it makes sense, if that's how Marvel chose to progress.

The argument that the Mind Gem is so powerful that Loki could bend everyone on Earth and the universe to his will has two snags. First, the Mind Gem can do that only when backed and amplified by the red Power Gem. If Loki doesn't have the Power Gem then he can't use the Mind Gem so expansively. Second, in the film universe the Mind Gem's power may not be the same as in the comics version. It could well be weaker or different.

Even though the Infinity Gauntlet was glimpsed in Odin's vault in Thor, it's entirely possible that Loki somehow hid it and the Gems on Earth before he was deposed. He certainly took the Casket of Ancient Winters from the Vault, so removing the Gauntlet isn't out of the question. Anticipating the possibility of defeat and planning for that contingency is very much like the God of Mischief.

Is any of the above going to turn out to be true? We'll know when the movie premieres. But it's fun to speculate about the possibilities.

All of Loeb's work on the Ultimate line is atrocious.

Can you guys believe that we're only a measly FIVE-SIX WEEKS away from seeing the Avengers released in theaters?

Good lord, I've been praying to make sure that I stay out of harm's way so that I can at least make it to the theater and live the experience of a lifetime.lol

What I can't believe is that my cinema hasn't put ANY promotional stuff for TA in their foyer yet. No posters, no standees, no banners. Nothing. 5 weeks before the movie starts!
And their only answer to the question if they make anything like a Marvel Studios Movie Marathon is "Why bother? No one cares for that movie anyway."
I suspect them to be Nolanites, really

I know! I was just thinking the other day that it doesn't seem like it's been that long since the 2010 ComiCon where The Avengers lineup was introduced. Along with that short teaser trailer.

Being able to mind contol someone and Easily Mind controling someone are 2 diffence things. Loki mind controling Thor may require more efort than normal and he may not be able to mantaine it for long peroids of time.

I thought Thor's main weakness (like Superman) is that he's vulnerable to magic? He's forever getting mind-jacked by Enchantress. Why wouldn't Loki be able to do it?
