Due to it being released overseas before over here, you already know some moron is gonna try and hawk a pirated version this month.

I heard there's already some online, but I couldn't find any.

I doubt it. Security was extremely tight.

EDIT: Also, security used metal detector on us before we went in. So there's no way a bootleg could appear unless it's from a higher up.

I don't know whether that was the same in London and Dublin. Plus, security was extremely tight with the TDKR prologue and there were tons of bootlegs for that.

what you've got to realise is that reviews can act like marketing for a good film, so the timing of the reviews matters, like the timing of a trailer. so despite the fact that reviews from other countries will be online anyway. the person who buys the paper will read about the avengers being awesome at the right time ie. not too soon ahead that they forget about it before release.

I don't think they went as far to use metal detectors for the DKR prologue thing though.

So...finally cracked and made an account here and stop lurking :)

But damn I had no idea that it´d be possible to be this excited for a movie... I was honestly expecting this to be a good popcornflick but meanwhile it seems that I will be taught a lesson on that thought... sure hope so^^

And on a different note, thanks for this mostly troll-free forum

Welcome aboard SimiOfDoom. The more fans of THE AVENGERS here the better.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, this is Nolan we're talking about.

It´s an opportunity to talk to people that are just as excited as oneself ;)

And sorry if this was brought up somewhere and I didn´t catch it, but.. how exactly is an earlier release in europe avoiding the bootlegging of a movie? (Think I read that somewhere that it is the reason for the earlier release) Or how is that a means against piracy?

I'm no expert but this is what I have gathered. The ideal scenario is a simultaneous WW release. The illegal burn DVD (IBD) market flourishes much more overseas than in the US (my country is a prime example), thus if you have to have staggered releases then doing domestically first will mean massive amounts of IBD's overseas cutting into your BO take. When it's the reverse there much less IBD's market in the US so it doesn't affect the domestic BO as much.

In the case of THE AVENGERS I think they wanted the overseas releases to be earlier so as to be less affected by the European Championships of football and in some cases to coincide with a holiday weekned (Australia?), but I'm not certain.

Ah, thank you very much, that makes sens of course... Hopefully most of the morons that try to bootleg this prior to us release get caught ;)
And I didn´t think about the Football/Soccer/idk championships... but of course.. you won´t want to have interferring that with the willingness to go to the cinema

About the whole bootleg issue - at what level is it at all ok (I realize it's all illegal but I'm speaking ethically here)?

Say, for example, you go and pay to watch the movie at the cinema (sometimes once, twice or even more) and then buy the movie on DVD/Blu-Ray but you want to watch the movie again [at home] in the months between. Is watching an on-line bootleg then kosher as no one is being shafted seeing as you've already/are about to pay money to the studio to watch it. As long as your actions dont stop anyone else from paying good money to see the movie [thus depriving the studio and the cinema of what is rightfully their due payment], then whats the problem (devils advocate here)?

The Obama Administration and the FBI are going Bat**** trying to fight piracy now. It's all about (JOBS,JOBS,JOBS) and (MONEY,MONEY,MONEY). If they do release a pirated copy it wont be up for long and anyone that shares it openly will be eat'n alive.

Im an Avengers fan and no one welcomed me. :(

On a different note I loved all I read in the twitter posts from the UK premiere. Did the US premiere this past wednesday take place in New York or Hollywood. My anticipation level for this film is unlike anything I have ever felt for any movie before. I have been an Avengers fan for a very, very long time and this movie - a movie I thought would NEVER happen- is a dream come true for me.

I think it's always a hazy gray area. I have no problem with your scenario.

But there are lots of people who just download the movie online and never make a financial contribution to the movie.

I apologise dude.

WELCOME mc7791 to SHH!

I don't much like her as a character personality in the comics but I have no problems with how she was portrayed in the movie. Why does being tough mean acting like a man?:csad:
Speaking as a man,
There were times during Thor When I thought Sif was The Leader of The Warrors Three .

I think that's a fine scenario. No one's getting screwed by it, so there's ethically nothing wrong.

I think another okay scenario is downloading DVDRips for your laptop for movies you buy on Blu-Ray that don't have digital copies/DVDs included, since I think it'd be silly to buy it twice just so you can have something to watch when you're on an airplane.

Yeah, that does my head in. Are Fox the only ones that include digital copies? So far, all the ones i've got have been Fox films.

Didn't Thor and Captain America come with digital copies you could download?

Well, I went to TDK 12 times in theater and 1 IMAX. Then pirated a videotape for the three months it was out of theaters and before Blu, then bought Blu...

It's like music, who cares if you steal the "cd/mp3"... just buy the vinyl and for sure go to the concerts.

Well, we cant break into jewelry stores to look at that necklace we are going to buy.
To me, looking at an online copy is similar.
Just like the locked Jewelry store ,
you are not legally allowed access unless the Studio posts the movie online itself .
Which they are NEVER going to do.
It is a CRIME pure and a simple.
if you look at an online copy,
You are stealing the Studios property.
or at least breaking in to see it which is bad enough.
Think of it this way MC ,
Would you want to risk going to prison for years because you watched a crappy and apparently unfinshed version of a great movie that you can see in three weeks time ?
It is not worth the risk .

My Watchmen DVD came with a digital copy but I never use those things anyway.

I'm not sure I understand that scenario.
If you *bought* the DVD/BR, why would you have any need to watch it at home on anything *other* than your DVD/BR? Unless you're saying that your DVD/blu-ray player is broken/in the shop or something.
