I think that's the wrong attitude to have. And I don't that's neccessarily your attitude, either, but...if anything, Avengers should make people want both more solo films and more Avengers films. If its a question of scale comparison, then the answer is fairly obvious: Make the solo films a little bigger. The comics have gone from world altering stories to personal tales and back and forth for decades. Movies could easily do so as well.
They need to develop these characters somehow. "Joining a team" isn't the end all be all for them and their mythologies. I don't see too much invididual character development happening in The Avengers and even its sequels, so its likely going to be left up to the solo films to do so.
The solo films just need to be just as big and as impactful as Avengers. No more isolated, tax-incentive new Mexico village.
