Sweeeeeet! So, [BLACKOUT]Thanos appearance [/BLACKOUT]live up to the hype?

And what's this about[BLACKOUT] the space scenes being cheesy? How much time was spent in space then?[/BLACKOUT]

Dude, put you know who's name in spoiler tags!

So, Ebert reviewed The Avengers? Anyone have a link? Google turns up nothing.

The review folks were talking about earlier was his review of Thor, not Avengers.

Yes, and I'd say [blackout]Thanos looks most like he does in your icon. Just add some gold to his "headgear" above the eyes, and you've basically got what he looks like in the movie.[/blackout]

Not much. 5-8 minutes, tops. And in response to your first question, the movie was frakkin' amazing. It's a close call, but I think it replaced TDK as my favorite superhero movie. It was far and away the most entertaining CBM ever.

Thor will not sit well with certain religious types as they see it as going against their one god type beliefs, even though it is a comic book fantasy film, they are still dumb enough to make that a reason to dislike it right from the off

This is funny because Cap has a line in the movie that addresses this.

I just thought of something important to ask

Are the army featured in the movie? National guard to fight the threat

Reason I ask is if the army are not present and there is no talk of them being defeated critics might look at this as a negative

I saw a brief clip of the army in the trailer, so how prominent are they?

They're barely in it. Most of the scenes of them fighting the aliens were cut. There are some shots of them helping people evacuate but it's pretty much The Avengers doing the fighting.

Very cool. :awesome:

Could you give a detailed description of the scene? That's the only spoiler i'm fussed about really. Recognise the voice actor?

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Next couple of weeks is gonna be a nightmare!

There's a scene where [BLACKOUT]cops talk about the national guard coming and they mention ETA and some time later you see some army guys along with cops shooting at the Chitauri, but their involvement is almost insignificant[/BLACKOUT].

So basically, [blackout]the unnamed Chitauri leader we've seen throughout the movie is detailing Loki's failure to his off-screen master. He says Earth is not so easy to bend to a new ruler as Loki suggested they were. His dialogue is very formal so I can only paraphrase, but the last line he says is that any attempt to conquer Earth "would be to court death." Cut to a close-up of Thanos, who just looks over his shoulder at him and grins like this is the best news he could have heard. That last shot of Thanos grinning with the cosmos he was looking over in the background is just glorious.[/blackout]

Nice! Appreciate all the info. So overall, mindblowing yea?

No. I'm one of the ones who thought the first couple space scenes were a little corny, but the mid-credits scene is perfection.

I didn't find the space scenes corny at all. They were very foreboding to me.
The scene in which Loki was tortured as a reminder of who controlled him and what he owed in return for assistance was very well done. It served to let the audience know what the stakes were for Loki and that there might be a bigger menace waiting in the wings.

That guy you're talking about is not [BLACKOUT]Chitauri, he's a different race altogether[/BLACKOUT]. Unless you referred to him [BLACKOUT]as Chitauri leader meaning the armies were his to command, not that he was Chitauri himself[/BLACKOUT].

Bingo.

That's how I felt about it.

Yeah, I don't know the races. I just meant he's the guy in charge who we'd been seeing throughout the film.

Ahh cool, so
Loki gets tortured? At what point does this happen? So basically he's just being used by Thanos? What are the exact details of their relationship? Is the other alien a kind of envoy of Thanos or something?

Sounds good enough for me.

I instantly jumped off my seat and yelled his name! The guy next to me was like who's that?

haha oh man that is so sick. [blackout]Thanos[/blackout] is probably my favourite Marvel character, villain, hero, whatever. It's literally a fanboys dream come true for me.

You see it in the beginning of the movie and then [BLACKOUT]he's in mental contact throughout the film.
The other guy is basically Thanos' envoy or servant, yes.
He speaks for Thanos, even though Thanos is present. It is implied that Loki ended up with them after he jumped into the nothingness at the end of the Thor movie, but there are no specific details about what has happened between them other than the implication that Loki "owes" Thanos[/BLACKOUT].

Oh yes.

It was the combination of the design of the leader guy (he reminded me of [blackout]a more flamboyantly-dressed Emperor from Star Wars[/blackout]) and the extremely formal dialogue he was spouting that made it feel cheesy to me. But really, the opening scene more than the others. I felt like I was watching the opening to a Transformers movie or something, and that was NOT what I wanted to feel at the beginning of The Avengers. Thankfully that scene was probably less than a minute long before they cut to a couple hours worth of awesomeness. :woot:

I had a feeling who it was gonna be based on the movie's intro, but actually seeing him is another story. I got excited I won't lie.

He's sitting watching his slaves work while he has flashbacks to that moment. It's implied that the Chitauri leader is working for Thanos. Loki never has any contact with him.

Morningstar please make sure you always blackout or put spoiler tags when you write that name. Some people expect to not be spoiled so much even though they know this is a spoiler thread.

If you know who he is, I don't see how you can't get excited. 95% of the audience lost their **** when he appeared.
