The Avengers The Avengers Post Screening Review & Discussion Thread (SPOILER FILLED) - Part 3

Nobody has mentioned Stan's cameo. What was he doing?
He was on a TV screen when they were showing all the media coverage of the Battle of NYC at the end, and all the interviews with citizens giving their thoughts. In Stan's interview, he's all incredulous at the idea of there being superheroes in New York City.

OR, Joss just came to the same logical conclusion that we did: Without the US military being involved (and with the government having entirely different intentions toward the situation), Rhodes wouldn't be involved. It seems to me that comic book fans who saw the movie don't feel "disserviced" by it at all, and I'm pretty sure a lot of them are also fans of the Iron Man movies. Don Cheadle's not only busy headlining his own TV show, but he's also got a recurring gig in the IM franchise, so he's probably fine about it. This movie packed in all it needed to and more for an introduction to the Avengers. No War Machine needed. In fact, considering Iron Man already got 2 supporting players from his films featured in this movie (Potts and Widow), while Hulk and Cap got none, adding yet another IM character would start to feel excessive, and probably bring about even more concerns of this seeming like "Iron Man 3" than it already gets.

Otherwise, to the rest of your post, I agree things did get a little overly hostile toward J. Howlett. I hope it hasn't chased him away for good. :yay:

Eh, you can't legitimately call Black Widow an Iron Man supporting player anymore than you can call Hawkeye a Thor supporting player. Sure, she had far more screentime than Hawkeye, but that was more a team-up than Black Widow existing to be Iron Man's sidekick.

The movie has disappointed me in this part:csad: There’s no real good brotherly love scene, all my friends were also disappointed."He's Adopted". They grew up like brothers. He thought Loki is his real brother :csad: and then he says such a **** ´I thought Thor is better than that. That's the reason why Loki thinks THOR does not love him . ]

Lmao, I noticed that this catgirl person has been posting the same stuff in multiple threads. Shes clearly one of those insane Loki fans. No offense of course.

There is no need to insult catgirl18. Adding, "No offense," after an offensive statement doesn't negate the insult. If you disagree with her, fine, but there is no need to be nasty about it.

Captain America earned his commission once he went into active duty and led his troops in battle against Hydra. He has actual boots-on-the-ground combat experience. Besides, Steve Rogers is Captain ****ing America; Rhodey is simply a pilot in a borrowed suit of armor. Much as I like Rhodey, Cap is the Marvel Universe's legendary soldier and commander.

Ummm
You can't earn a commission that way!
At most he should have been promoted to Master Seargeant or CMS
Not a friggin Captain!! Unless he went to OTS and had a college degree like Rhodes did!

Steve is an actual captain in the US Army.

what are you basing this on?
I haven't seen anything that definitely says he is a Captain in the Army...this goes for 616 and movie cap

I didn't say she was IM's sidekick, I said she was a supporting player from IM's movies. Until now, the audience ONLY knows her from IM2. Hawkeye wasn't even noticeable in Thor except to people who knew he'd be in Avengers, so it's really not the same.

Does Furry get some action?
besides using a bazooka,Does he have a shoot out with the aliens or something??

He's not in NYC for the battle (the Avengers go on their own), so he never encounters the aliens. But he does get some action when Loki, Hawkey & Co. infiltrate the Helicarrier.

Thought I had wondered into the wrong thread for a second.

Agreed, that's unnecessary.

Curious; but did the Hulk come off as more "intelligent"/self conscious in this film than he has in previous films?

A little bit. He takes the order from Cap to "smash" and understands whats going on and who the bad guys are, most of the time.

Ever heard of a battlefield commission? During World War II over 25,000 were granted, all approved by the War Department, raising non-commissioned soldiers to commissioned rank. Steve Rogers was given one. His service record showed this fact. It's a movie based on a comic book. If we can accept that a man can have an arc reactor buried six inches deep in his chest and that there are "gods" from other universes, surely we can accept Captain America's rank.

I always feel that the title Captain was an honorary rank given to Steve Rogers, and if that montage of Capt. America & the Howling Commandos were to believed, he probably deserved a much-higher position at the end of his campaign versus HYDRA. Steve Rogers will always be a Captain no matter what his accomplishments are, because of his name, obviously.

Fury also shot down a SHIELD jet with a rocket launcher. Too bad he ran out of rockets. :woot:

where did you see his service record???

It very clearly says he was promoted to "Captain" in his movie. Its established.

Steve Rogers is like James T. Kirk: Born to be a Captain, will live and die as one.

i was researching a series I was gonna pitch to Marvel a few years ago called Codenamed:Captain America....the object was to tell Cap's story from training to freezing within the actual timeframe of WW2...and could not find anything that says he was a Captain.

Perhaps I should have said his "file". Peggy Carter and Col. Phillips had it at the end of CA: TFA.

Also, Steve Rogers is always referred to as "Captain Rogers," whether by civilians or SHIELD personnel. Col. Fury called him that, and as a former military officer himself he would be a stickler about rank. The display with the Captain America uniform in the Helicarrier is labeled "CPT STEVE ROGERS". And his Army uniform in CA: TFA had Captain's bars on the shoulders. What more proof do we need?
