The Avengers The Avengers Post Screening Review & Discussion Thread (SPOILER FILLED) - Part 5

Just got back in from seeing avengers... I honestly can't even begin to knit my thoughts into a cohesive whole, it was just, incredible. Every time I think through the movie, I just think how awesome every part of it was, I can't pick a fav moment there are too many to choose from!

have to say though, I now have so much love for the Hulk/Banner =D

Put together all the clips and trailers into a 10 min Avengers Mini Movie. Check it out!

It's certain extended cut is off the table?

Whedon said as much in an interview. He said the theatrical cut is his "Director's Cut", and there would be no extended cut on DVD or Blu-ray. Expect deleted scenes, though.

I'm disappointed myself, especially considering going on 45 minutes was cut. That is a lot of material, and character material to here Whedon tell it. At least we will see some of it or all of it in the supplements.

Fans will edit together an extended cut when the DVD/Blu-Ray comes out. Count on it.

The problem with adding 45 minutes of additional material is this thing called pacing...

2001 is very slow paced, it is one of my favourite movies ever

i don't care one bit about pacing

Thor did.

Ah, but yes, [BLACKOUT]then Hulk punched him because of no reason in the final battle. No reason I said? I meant for cheap laughs, once again.
[/BLACKOUT]

And that is bad because??...

Than Loki? I didn't see that.

I don't have anything against a Hulk with an attitude. [BLACKOUT]But the way Loki is shown after the beating it was just ridiculous. It was like a cartoon and turned the character into a joke for the sake of a last minute couple of laughs.[/BLACKOUT]

Doesn't Banner always want to control Hulk anyways?

How does wanting to turn into the Hulk give Banner more control over him?
[BLACKOUT]It just happened all of a sudden. At one point Hulk wanted to smash the Avengers, at the next Banner suddenly had complete control. Out of the clear blue sky.[/BLACKOUT] And if Banner's in control of Hulk, [BLACKOUT]how come he remembers he's still angry with Thor?
[/BLACKOUT]

Yes, Thor is leagues above Loki when it comes to battle.

Just got back from a screening in Raleigh NC - I can't even think straight or begin to describe how amazing it was! And there were SOOO many great lines that I wish I could remember!!

I just watched the movie. Still can't get my mind around the idea that they managed to make this movie.

Favourite moment: "that man is playing Galaga" :D

I actually agree with all of El Payaso's criticisms, but I still enjoyed those bits as my brain was shut off at the time.

[BLACKOUT]Because it comes from nowhere, goes nowhere, it's just lazy writing.[/BLACKOUT]

Dude.., I will say again, that is bad because??

I almost feel like you are trying to just pick the movie apart, based on the picture, it seems you may be a batman guy.

Could be wrong.

Its a random scene thrown in for laughs. That's not a bad thing and its not necessarily lazy writing because not having it there wouldn't have done anything more than it being there. Which is nothing.

Its just a funny little scene thrown in. Nothing is bad about that dude.

I feel like you are trying hard to uncover every flaw in this movie.

Look, if you didn't like that moment you should probably give up on Marvel movies. They won't be your thing.

And definitely don't go near any Whedon tv shows or films because every one of his heroes gets a literal and metaphorical knockout at some point.

Well, that might help. But even when I was heavily entertained by the movie [BLACKOUT]I can't stand that kind of facile resolution.[/BLACKOUT]

Same question, same answer. Lazy writing is not a praiseworthy characteristic.

It's not like the whole movie was written like that either.

Yes, a Batman guy is defined as someone who picks movies apart.

But gratuitous labelling aside, I am a Batman guy. And also critizised the exact same thing in Batman Begins (known as the target of every praise by 'Batman guys'). I hated the way they got rid of Scarecrow in that Batman movie the same I hated what they did here with a great villiain - and Loki was a much much better villiain than Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow, mind you (oh what a thing to say for a Batman guy tearing other movies apart). [BLACKOUT]Both were very similar ways to get rid of the bad guy.[/BLACKOUT]

No, it wasn't just a "random" unimportant scene. It was the end of the villiain we were supposed to feel as the greatest menace. And during the climax. [BLACKOUT]And they did a very good job building Loki's persona just to have him defeated in a cartoony half-baked comedic way. They had Loki at the end moaning like that. That cheesism was unworthy of this villiain.[/BLACKOUT]

I feel like you are trying hard to uncover every flaw in this movie.

Well first of all your sentence implies there are flaws and that this was one o them. And then, no, you don't try hard to undercover things that are fairly obvious.

Look, if you didn't like that moment you should probably give up on Marvel movies. They won't be your thing.

Well, I happen to have seen all of them, and have found very similar flaws in movies that are not Marvel so I suggest your diagnosis might be inaccurate.

Save your breath duders, that guy will drone on for days and days over the most insignificant points.

Absolutely. Any opinion contrary to the majority is by definition wrong. That way we can all carry on.

Not all jokes are set up. That is the nature of jokes. It's not a flaw in the movie. Again, probably just not your thing.

I haven't even made a list or posted to boredom in the "what people didn't like" thread. I just thought the character of Loki deserved way better, not a joke, for his defeating, no matter how funny could have been considered. Considering that "trying hard to uncover every insignificant flaw" is just overreacting.

I don't think you're "trying hard to uncover every insignificant flaw", or whatever. I just think the fact that you see it as a flaw at all means that it just wasn't for you. Everyone has different tastes, I'm really not trying to get on your case or anything.
